there is one of those blue plaques for the dog in the hmv label in park avenue in bristol showing where he used to live - ridiculous - its a dog!

HMV do a lot of exclusives, the dvd for 24 had one for instance, usually these are advertised in advance so hopefully the adverts will appear shortly...

It's that RCA? Dog & gramphone?

No - HMV is a subsidiary of Thorn/EMI. The record label came first and the 'logo' was so widely identified with music, that the company adopted it (and the name) for the music chain.

I had the same understanding as Nicolas. What's going on here? How does RCA fit in?

i too emailed hmv.ca and their response was: "Unfortunately, we have contacted a number of our suppliers and we are unable to obtain the Retro/5set Box that you are looking for. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you will visit us again in the future."

Nice work once more, JS. It's refreshing to have some feedback from those less removed from the band and management.

Rest assured your efforts are widely appreciated. For financial renumeration, see the fanbase high rollers: Dave Sultan, Big Al, Rocket Mick, etc.

BTW, I'm currently listening to the live disc, and I must say, it's not bad at all.. Ceremony, Procession, In A Lonely Place and Everything's Gone Green are "ok", but the others (so far) are from a pretty decent quality.

Explanation from the RCA website:

Nipper and Chipper In the late 1800's, a virtually unknown artist named Francis Barraud of London saw his little dog, Nipper, sitting attentively in front of the talking machine. Barraud was so impressed that he decided to put it on canvas. Nipper, the alert Fox Terrier with an ear cocked to an antique phonograph, became the best known dog in the world. The painting, called "His Master's Voice", became the trademark of the Victor Talking Machine Company in 1901. RCA purchased the Victor Company of Camden, New Jersey, in 1929, and the purchase included the Talking Machine manufacturing plant and the Victor dog trademark. Nipper has been used in RCA advertising materials since 1929. Chipper, a Jack Russell terrier, was added to the family in 1991.

The bonus disc is great... but... I was really looking forward to the 7" Ceremony and Temptation versions. Also, MTO would have been nice. I do own MP3's of all these already, but I just seems like they could have pulled it off and finally put them on CD for the first time.

Can anyone confirmed that the preorders from HMV.UK are getting the bonus disc? I ordered mine at the 16.99 price. If not, I'm offically changing my name to the Grinch this X-mas.

The webmaster blokey (David Sultan) from WIM site had this to say on his forum:

"London Records confirm that they will be giving away the bonus disc for a limited period of time in all stores that are stocking the box set - it is not exclusive for HMV at all. The Bonus Disc will be packing it in with the booklet inside the box set - not separately."

So then it is London Records' word against the band's management. Who the hell do we trust?!!?? :confused: I'd have to go with der management based on London Records' past history.

Not really new, been reading the board for a while, but never really posted and had to re-register. i guess that serves me right...yeah, ok, enough of that... HMV in the UK, lists retro as 4 CD's for £27.99, however, scroll down and the limited CD is track-listed and then down at the bottom of the page is this, "Available for a limited time only with 9-track bonus disc." with a scheduled release date of 2/12/02.

i guess i better put in my order....

www.hmv.com does not mention the extra CD and the post at the top of the page shows a response someone recieved from www.hmv.com that states they will not be able to get the version with the extra CD...

I'd imagine almost definately not Matt. Odd though you never mentioned before your pre-order was at £16.99!!! I suppose it makes up for it being a 4 disk set though!!

In all seriousness though I suspect there's just no way you'll know. I suggest waiting for it to arrive through the post and if it's only got 4 CDs run off and look in every shop for a 5 disk set and give the 4 disk one to someone for Christmas. Or maybe HMV will take it back as part of some 'if you are not 100% satisfied deal'.

Hmmm well Amazon.co.uk have this Retro listed as Retro [BOX SET] [IMPORT] with that same ASIN. £46.99. So that's all not very clear.

I love (I mean loathe) how everyone keeps asking the same question "Is the version that I pre-order from ___ going to have the bonus disk?" Let me answer this REALLY repetative question once and for all... why the heck are you asking us? How the hell would we know? The websites you are ordering from don't even know. When your package arrives in the mail, you will know... until then, please stop asking questions that no one here can accurately answer. It gets annoying after a while, I think I would rather have all the threads go back to complaining about Retro than to see that question a bazillion more times over the next couple of months. You pay your money and you take your chances.

Jonathan.. you mentionned there isn't any Peel Sessions tracks due to the rights belonging to BBC and everything (the point is not on who belongs the rights)

But then, there is 2 tracks from the Glastonbury 87 on Retro, which was released 3 times by BBC.. they managed to get the rights for those, but not for the Peel Sessions?

If anyone is going to order from hmv.co.uk buy a Toblerone. You get a £2 off voucher inside the wrapper. Also available with Terry's Chocolate Orange and Dime bars, I assume. Or find a student with a current NUS card; they get 10% off. Nice.

I pre-ordered from HMV.co.uk last week, at a cost of £35, the price has now dropped to £27, and the bonus disc added to the tracklisting... how much am i going to end up paying and will i get the disc?!
