ok, everyone on this site loves new order, and probably joy division, as well. but are they your absolute favourite band, or is there...ANOTHER? perhaps you love new order but have a really soft spot for neil sedaka?

Note that New Order's new material has been superior to the other bands, so right now they are at #1. (IMHO of course)
I love so many other bands, but no one can even come close to New Order. There's just something about that band...

What's up with everyone and the Cure? But why am I saying that. I do like Wrong Number. Most of my friends would probably laugh if they ever listened to the Cure. But then again, all they do is sit around and talk about Pink or Michael Jackson or something. It's sickening, those preppies. I personally love the Smiths. Johnny Marr is such a hottie and so talented. And are we talking about just bands here? If not, I think Angelo Badalamenti is a fantastic composer. And I'm not talking about fancy orchestrated music.
New Order defo favourite.
But prefer the likes of ACR or even Orbital or the Mondays (between about 87 and 89) over Joy Division.

Okay, so yes, they are my faves, have been for about 18 years now...I listen to them every day...some of my friends say I'm obsessed...I just say I'm very passionate about the order...
joy division are okay, but as I said in another thread, I don't much think I'd have ever picked up on JD if not for NO...
too bad the rest of the world really has no idea...but then again, if they ever made it really really big, like say oh, Nirvana...or Shaniah Twain...would they still be making music???
And to all those who have replied otherwise, we have laws in this country about bigamy, you know?
Yes, Joy Division and New Order are my favourite.
Next on the list would have to be REM, I have a big collection but no-where near complete and I don't feel the need for it to be so, unlike NO/JD.

NO and JD without a doubt. REM not far behind (JD are one of Michael Stipe's favourite bands). Must confess that Nirvana had a big effect on me, I was quite upset when Kurt pulled the trigger.
Everything else I listen to depends on the mood I'm in, but JD and NO are much like Jello, there's always room for them no matter how you're feeling. That's why they are at the top of my list.

There are zillions of others (cure and massive attack probably come second, oh and I really like Everything But the Girl once they went 'dance' and stopped all that jazz-folk nonsense) but nothing in this world can touch new order.

A very subjective and difficult question to answer.
It really depends on my mood. Sometimes I want to groove to some nice deep dance\progressive house\trance, and then sometimes I just wanna play air guitar and jam to some hard brit rock.
The only band I can think of that covers both of these grey area genres perfectly, is Depeche Mode. They've crafted the perfect definition of how to mesh dance\pop with guitars and make it sound beautiful. Personal Jesus, Behind the Wheel, Enjoy the Silence, Useless, and My Joy are just a few examples. Because of this, I'd have to give the trophy to them.
New Order, The Smiths, theThe, Electronic, Simple Minds, U2, and The Cure are all tied for second place.
Hmmm, a tough one. Yes, NO/JD are my favourites of all time, but after that I can't really rank them in any order - equal second goes to Fugazi, Orbital, Nirvana, Husker Du/Bob Mould.. the list goes on..

hmmm, I am one of those people who can't decide on one favourite anything, in fact favourite means "the one" but I always have more than one.
My favourite band will always be U2, New Order are unbelievably close 2nd, then comes Massive Attack / Chemical Brothers...and oooh, I don't know... millliiooons of others...
What I find interesting is the number of people who love tool as well as new order, I think thats an interesting combo...I too dig tool...maybe New Order fans are just naturally diverse minded... or maybe its because the music has a common element of emotion? not necessarily the same emotion..
To expand a bit on my earlier answer, JD/NO have been a constant in my musical life since the late 70s. Bands also doing the rounds at the same time are also important to me, such as The Fall, Elvis Costello and Echo and the Bunnymen. Roughly the same time as PC&L came out I discovered Husker Du, and the work of them and their individual elements has always been high on my playlist. I was brought up on the Beatles and the Velvet Underground. In the late 80s I started listening to some of the "Indie" stuff such as the Wedding Present, House of Love, short-lived stuff that was basically just me expanding my musical horizons. Nothing has ever matched the staying power of my love for JD/No though.
To put it in perspective, I just had a trawl through E-bay. First thing I searched on was New Order, then JD, then Elvis Costello, Husker Du and Bob Mould. Weddoes ? Nah !
I´m an unconditional fan since the first time I listened to NewOrder (BLT). Before I liked TheCure a lot (I used to have bobby smith´s haircut style and I was 10!). But since 1986 New Order was, is and will be my favourite band ever.

Yaeh - got everything he's ever done. Met him back in July at the London gig - very unassuming guy, ready and willing to have a chat with everyone after the gig, signing autographs and chatting away. Does a hell of an acoustic show as well !
Im a Joy Division fan, new order only comes with it, but i still like their music, even if they will never have the weight that JD had.
i also like Autechre; The Velvets; Bowie 77-80; Iggy Pop; Lou Reed; The Fall; Boards of Cananda; Radiohead; Can; Faust; Kraftwerk; The Doors..all that
It'll pass Sean, fear not. 18 is when Joy Division gets you round the throat and won't let go. By the time you're 30 you'll look back on New Order as a laugh !!

sorry...guess I should explain, I lurv the Chemical Brothers, and I do rather enjoy blur...but of course...the order are my favorites...so, what does it all mean??
