Substance, definitely.
The Best Of was London's creation. It could be looked at as an introduction to the band, or an overlook of their carrer.
Substance was Factory's gift to the fans. Every non-album single, and a bunch of mixes to go along with it.
i dunno...maybe substance, but there was a lot on the substance collection i could'have done without...mainly state of the nation, shellshocked and their version of subculture. but the best of ain't very comprehensive...so dunno.
one thing i do know is....
<--i like the artwork:D
SUBSTANCE (promo for the ARTWORK) but i still bought at least 7 BEST OF/REST OF too.:D
:substance:

Substance,
a) Because it is more *ahem* substantial than the Best of
b) It shows New Order's two sides: their A-Side wonders and their unbelievably underrated B-Sides
c) I can leave both discs in my system and listen to it on repeat all night long ![]()
"Substance" of course. The 12" mixes are what New Order was all about, not radio versions. I know people who only like "Bizarre Love Triangle" and "True Faith" and bought "Substance" just for those songs. And that's a hefty purchase if you don't care or will take the time to listen to the other tracks. In fact, has anyone else noticed if you go to a used-cd shop and browse the New Order section you'll see the 2nd disc of Substance sold separately? Now that's a casual fan. I happen to like the 2nd disc and could not part with it.

now that is an understatement, if I ever heard one in my pathetic life!!! :moon:
So basically The Best of New Order is COMPLETELY different than Substance in terms of the tone of New Orders Music? Or is it just the selection of songs and the fact that it has 2 cds that makes it SO MUCH better than Best of NO?

substance is for the fans, best of are for the casual listeners (though only die-hard fans would buy the rest of...)
substance has b-sides (i think that's what they are) while best of contains songs that you've heard before if you've got their whole catelogue (í'm going with the purple one here)...maybe with the exception of let's go on the blue
. dunno, never took a look at the blue ![]()
