24Hr Party People Australian Release

Along with todays Daily Telegraph came a big color booklet entitled 'The Ultimate Summer Movie Guide' listing all the big movies to be released over the next few months. 24 Hour Party People graced the pages which surprised me since all the other movies featured seemed to be big Hollywood films ..

Anyway, the official release date given was February 27th with an R rating. Part of the review said it was a "Bizzare Music Triangle" ...

so the carrier pigeon should be resting in, say, tahiti at the moment?

Hi Brendan Yeah, I posted this news last month when a guy from Dendy got back to my query - the irony is that we will be able to purchase the DVD on the net before we see it in the cinemas. Did you happen to catch it when it was doing a Film Festival thing last year? Bloody great it is. Personally can't wait to see it again CTB

HEY CTB !! Nah I didn't get to see the film earlier this year. I think it only played in Melbourne so I couldn't get down there. Im going to watch it first in the cinema and then buy the DVD. Do you think it'll get a region 4 release sometime ? I've got a multizone DVD player so it doesn't really matter but I prefer to buy the region 4 ...

Dunno about being a bloody good movie, Chopper-The-Bear, coz I've watched it a couple weeks ago.....I thought the casting for Hooky and Ian were a bit naff...also it was a bit too Shauney Ryder heavy.... ...and after the movie, I thought I'd never want to listen to another garb from Tony Wilson again....the narration was just a bit too annoying, I thought.... ....probably the only bit I liked was the job in the van....

I wouldn't bet on a local DVD release in the near future, Sunny boy.

However, I reckon Finsbury will be out before long- I noticed that the UK version is both region 2 and 4 enabled. We'll end up getting an imported copy for the local release, ala 316. The question is whether to grab a copy from the UK (cdwow.com has it for around 13 quid) or wait for the Aussie version. I too like to buy local if I can, other than saving money, it's good to assist local sales, thus convincing Warner AU that New Order are still a profitable commodity. Can only boost the likelihood of future Australian releases, tours, merchandising, etc.

Ah, you are a community-minded soul, ChargeMeister - but I'm afraid I don't share your confidence in 5 11 turning up here in Aus soon - 3 16 was at least listed on the WarnerVision website under "coming soon" before it was released, but there is still no sign of 5 11 there now. I hope you are right, I'm just not convinced. Snoopy, I guess we just have to agree to disagree on 24HPP - I really enjoyed it. You are right about it being too heavy with the Ryder content, but the first 40 minutes are excellent IMHO. CTB

RandyBear it's great to see you still frequent these parts. I'm hopeful for a soonish 511 release due to the dual regioning of the disc. What was the gap between the UK and AU release for 316, I can't remember. Don't think it was that much. I'm not saying it'll be out pre-Christmas, but I don't think it'll be far off. The disc, packaging and zone security will be identical to the European version. Just a matter of importing them really. As for the Warner promotions guide - let's face it - they're a bunch of clowns. I don't think their website's even been updated to reflect the release of International. Why bother when they have so many Matchbox 20 units to flog?

A pity that none of these NO DVDs are ever recorded in 5.1 channel Dolby Digital.

Have any of the aussies seen Back to Mine selling for less than $34 ? Everywhere I go its $34 .. Waiting for the price to drop before I get it.

Brendan, Back to Mine was selling at JB Hi-Fi for around $31.00 yesterday, I was debating wheather to get that or International. I opted for the latter (at only $19.00) and I noticed that contrary to reports, it doesn't have Everything's Gone Green on it - however, the sound quality of the earlier tracks sounds much better than on Substance to my ears. Did we ever discover if some knob-tweakin' had occurred on this stuff, or are my shell-likes decieving me?

Oh yeah, and a big up for 'fro bro' on tha westside - your point about Matchbox 20 is well made. CTB
