Regret Fire Island is my all-time favourite remix of any song by any artist.

Regret both Weatherall mixes. I know I've banged on about them a lot but they are a work of art in their own right.

i voted for the Subculture mix because it enhances the original so much. the rest of the songs i enjoy the album or single versions of as much as the remixes but if i listen to Sub Culture it's going to be the Record Mirror mix without a doubt. I could send this to anyone who hasn't heard it...just clear some space in your email...(about 8MB)

i totally disagree (surprise, surprise) about the Stolen Mix of Thieves. While it does stay true to the original, it has the most overused drum samples ever to appear on a neworder mix. The original of Thieves is so perfect that no mix could ever outplay it.

Fire Island, KKlass, Felix, Coombs, Weatherall (slow n low)...all good versions but no mix betters the original like the Record Mirror version of Sub Culture.

Do the remixes of ruined in a day not qualify? e.g. the ambient mix and the reunited mix? Or are those by NO themselves? I prefer those two to the original.

i think the K Klass mix qualifies as the Reunited mix...gotta check but i'm pretty sure that's their version. Ambient mix is good too!

Now this is a tough poll. So many great mixes to choose from, once you weed out all the crap like those Reggae Ruined in a Day remixes!

Ultimately I went with the BLT/Shep Pettibone since it was one of the first songs I ever heard, has a lot of appeal with non-New Order fans, and even made it on Substance!

Also love the RiaD Ambient mix (how was that left off?), The Perfecto mixes of TF and World, the jazz piano in the Fire Island mix of Regret, and Kiss of Death (if for no other reason it has the extended ending).

As a side note, does anyone else here feel that New Order could have released an awesome remix album for Republic? Say what you will about the album, but some of the greatest mixes I've ever heard for any group come off of that album.

I think if they had remixes for a lot of those tracks they would sound better. Aside from Special I think all the other tracks could be enhanced with better production. And I wouldn't say that about any other New Order release.

Arthur Baker's Nineteen63 for me as well - I don't know, that Fire Island mix of Regret gets a bit too "Peter Allen" for me at the end - not very New Order at all IMHO. Regret is such a perfect single it needs no remixing. And Nic - sorry to be so anal, but the '87 version of Temptation is NOT a remix, it's a total re-recording. CTB

Come on, Here To Stay (Felix the Housecat) has to be the best mix ever. Apart from that, the singles are normally better than the mixes. How many remixes can you think off which still have the trademark Hooky bassline intact? Not many. QED

I have to admit that I'm not familiar with every remix listed, but Blue Monday-88 took what was already a classic, nearly perfect dance track, and made it into an immortal dance track. Though other songs may be better, this was a song that had a far reaching affect on the music world, and brought countless new fans into the world of NO.

Ruined In A Day K-Klass Reuinited mix is the best of the more recent ones - okay it's now nearly 10 years old, but their treatment of it completely brightened up what was quite a dreary original album track.

I'd have to agree that the remixes from "Republic" are all superb (bar the Sly & Robbie mixes of "Ruined"), but I'd have to side with "Reunited in a Day" despite Mr Sumner's crap dancing to it on TOTP and Hooky playing non-existant bass.

The Perfecto mixes of "World" & "True Faith" must have impressed the band as they dragged Steve Osbourne in to mix "Getready".

And what about the Hardfloor mix of "Blue Monday"? That should be listed surely?

Fire Island too for me. It was the first mix I had heard of Regret, and hopes were just so high for the LP... then... you can guess the rest.

Shep Pettibone remix of True Faith, it's far stronger than the Perfecto one.

One of the WORLD remixes (which one, who knows?!) and the THIEVES LIKE US instrumental on the other side of Murder...not that I am great lover of remixes.

it wasn't done by 'new order', its a dj razormaid mix..(see the sticky post at the top)..

and it is OFFICIAL as far as i figure it, it was released on a magazine release, and they had to authorize it..

(on the us cd-single for 'disappointed', they used the 'art of mix' version of gangster, so this isn't the first time they've gone to remix services)...

by the way, that fanmix of 'thieves like us', is just WAY TOO NOISY...i like the simple elegant version of the original, which i've mixed together with the instrumental..

Regret-FI Mix, hands down!! The beautiful jazzy piano solo, the smooth production, the piano riffs where the guitar used to be... *sigh* it brings to a higher state of existence where everyone is loved.

I personally loved the Perfecto Mix of World. I remeber really liking the original, before knowing that there were so many remixes, and when I found the Perfecto Mix on Napster, I was blown away and went on about it for a long time. About the Republic remix album, I think that would be awesome actually.

Oh yeah, just to state, I would have voted for the Stadium Mix of Spooky had it been on there.

1963 ('95 Arthur Baker Mix). But only because Blue Monday's '95 Hardfloor Mix isn't in there....for me it would be a clear winner. 3rd goes to Ruined In A Day (K-Klass Mix).

May I say also very good poll this one, better than bloody JD vs NO on Ceremony.

My favourite remix is the "no alla violenza" (i think that's how you spell it) mix of "World In Motion". I like the way Barney sings "we've got the world in motion" instead of "love's got the world in motion" and Hooky gets to play a bit more bass.

What do you NOOLers think about those "Someone Like You" remixes? Pretty good on my opinion.

There's so damn many remixes that I can't honesly choose just one of them.

And that doesn't mean that I really do have even heard a half of them, really.

The remix of BLT, seconded by BM-88. Perhaps I just like how they were both turned into dance music, but good dance music. Actually, I think I heard this remix of BLT first, and it got me hooked on this song for a while because of the intro, before the lyrics. Once I heard the Brotherhood version, which is still good, I was a bit disappointed by the intro. With BM-88, the versionsw on (the best of) and Substance both do the original justice in my opinion. They don't completely mess up the original like BM-95 did, in my opinion, by making it too trancey. But, there are remixes of BM-88 that I absolutely loathe, like the version that used to be on the audio sample for BM on the neworderweb.com page. It's the one that has those sounds like someone's breathing heavily at the beginning. It sounds absolutely terrible, in my opinion. And, since this was the first remix I heard of BM, I actually heard the original first, I'm not voting for it. Enough Said

I voted for Shep's BLT, but it was not an easy choice. I LOVE Arthur Baker's 1963 (a lot better than the original), Felix da Housecat's HTS and Perfecto's TF! But I prefer Blue Monday 83 to 88. And that "Stolen Mix" for Thieves Like US would never get my vote!

Being a sonic youth fan, I like the sub-culture remixes! But I still chose True Faith Morning Sun.

Excellent thread, and well nigh impossible to answer. What's interesting is that I've only found one person here who doesn't like remixes. I've really rediscovered NO through the remixes; I knew the originals so well (Substance was my last NO purcahse before Get Ready), that the re and/re re-mixes are great 'cos I know the originals so well I can 'hear' them running in parallel (It's all done with wires and stuff!). The Lee Coombs remix of Crystal is awesome' it actually features very little of the original, and uses the original as an 'instrument' in the construction of a new track, without ever betraying the original (this stuff is really good), having said that my all time favourite is the remix of Bizarre Love Triangle on Substance- I thought it was PSB but having read through above I guess it isn't; I just love it when that 'vocoder' or whatever comes in; it reminds me of 'Sparky and the magic piano', I just melt. A shout goes ot for TWA's Grim up North mix of True Faith, and Morel's Pink Noise version. The mix of Round and Round is worse than the original. World+Perfecto = pants. I agree with the above comment about Regret; why mess about with perfection! The Fire Island mix is horrible; it ends up sounding like Shakatak or one of those Lounge Lizard/Jazz funk bandsed (also the reason I dislike Oakenfold's True Faith). I prefer somethign completely left-filed like Sabres). Arthur Baker's 1963 should have been the single, but it's just such as sad song lyrically (as in pathetic). Run2 is fucking magic (those multi-layered Hooky runs at the end phew). I can't remember which one I voted for now.

I am under the thinking that the Round & Round remixes were really the LAST really good ones...after that I think that about 98% are utter shite! But that's just my humble opinion. Now that said, the Someone Like You remixes were not all that bad actually...I did like the Gabriel & Dresdon mixes quite a bit.

Those 60 Miles An Hour mixes must be destroyed!!!!

felix....hts. i think its one of the few new order remixes that do the original track justice. for new tracks, i think they should recruit styrofoam or schneider tm.

And I certtainly do not understand all of the hoopla over the BLT (EDR) version...

I know this is my first post, but I have been lurking for a very long time (don't post from work - new access from home...)

anyway - bit confused about the Record Mirror Mix of Subculture - people suggesting it's a Razormaid job, but if you mean the one on the 7inch single given away with Record Mirror in 1986 (or thereabouts) then, according to my copy, it is an official remix - "published by Bemusic/Warner Bros Music, Produced by New Order and remixed by John Robie" - I would put a scan of it up if I could work out how... haven't listened to it for years but from memory it is fantastic - might hook up my turntable and find out!

For the record (so to speak) the 7inch played at 33.3 and featured four tracks - the other three being by Ramonde, Hipsway (remember them?) and the Adventures (nope, me neither).

Call me old fashioned but i liked it when they only issued a single alternative/remixed call-it-what-you-will version. up to about 89 (check - troofaith remix disc, etc) . All this magimix, moulimix, bogle mix, fire island mix 10 bloody mixes of the one song just doesnt do it for me. LESS is More IMHO, particularly with NO. Don't you just think it dilutes the integrity and meaning of the original song when someone meddles with it and puts out umpteen versions (so far removed and often completely unidentifiable from the original). You should at least be able to discern the origins of the remix subject matter in a reworked version. Any remix should have a light touch IMHO and that does not mean just shoving some backbeats/base/dance beats behind it.

My man, Superstar New York-by-way-of-Cleveland DJ Doug Beck allegedly submitted a remix of 60 Miles an Hour; how the record company passed on it -- whatever it sounded like -- and actually burned the Superman Lovers mix onto a CD is incomprehensible.

I was going to suggest that we all ask pretty please with sugar on top for a copy, but Mr. Beck's web site (dougbeck.net) has disappeared.

And call me new-fangled, but I want 100 remixes of everything by everybody, minimum. It's a happy day for me when I buy a CD-single of remixes that's longer than the full album.

The David Kahne mix of 60 MAH is actually good.. the Supermen Lover is horrible.. but at least it's different.. the only "problem" here is that there is no other remixes.

I wouldn't mind it if we had an extended version or something.. but as the official 12" mix, it sucks!

As for Round & Round, it's actually the last track that had an "extended version" mix.. it seems to be a lost feature, I'd sure love to see those more often, when a song is good, you want it to last longer!

I don't agree on the Spooky mixes though.. the Minimix IS better than the original version, hence why they used that one for the video! (As the Perfecto version of World is, at least for me!)

There was a time...back in the days of yore, when the world was young that I did enjoy the "Stadium Mix" of Spooky. But in these days of electricity and the wheel I am more inclined to dig upon the Minimix of Spooky...maybe because it is so simplistic.

World Perfecto Mix gets me every single time.....and I don't even like the song that much.....its just a great remix
