... and WHY?

Yeah, maybe I shouldn't put Transmission there, but well..

Mine is Atmosphere, it's simply incredible.. when we had a thread if New Order should do an album of Joy Division tracks, this is the proof it can be done and sound very good...

Close Range for me. The session version offers so much more than the Get Ready version.

"Isolation". the re-worked version sounds fresh and up to date.

This version of 586 is the best i've heard...

"Turn The Heater On" is my favourite track, taking a regga track and making it there own is a stroke of genius.

SLOW JAM

OK OK, There's a few crackers on there......but this version is magic.

For me it's a toss up between three songs of the 2nd session (leaving out We All Stand). The main reason why I haven't picked 5-8-6 is that this will get the most votes anyway. The take of Turn The Heater On is incredibly good, but in the end I went for 'Too Late' because

  • it has a great build-up at the beginning
  • the way Steve's drums are mixed into the whole is really intricate
  • it has classic Hooky bass
  • the synth washes at the end are great,
  • the lyrics stand up pretty well, too.

In short, an unjustly overlooked original!

I'm with you on that one my friend! It sounds amazing live & excellent here, although it will never overcome the original (One of my all-time favourite songs).

Turn The Heater On!

The only real exclusive to appear on the Peel Sessions. The others have decent album/single versions and the 81-83 era of NewOrder is the most intriguing to me currently. I love that eary electronic sound...a unique stone in the overstuffed sack of gems polished by the Order on the beeb.

I´ll go with we all stand because nobody will. the sound of the piano is just fantastic. I really like this version. I like turn the heather on and 586 as well. but I´ll stay with this one.

I'd like to vote for Temptation from the 84 Saturday Live session, but sadly it's not an option.

Yeah but people told me it was for TV.. not radio!

Is that the 84 version that we see in NewOrderStory?

Where Bernard looks like a ghost? :D

It was broadcast on both radio and TV. It has also been discussed on here many times. An absolutely classic performance, have you never heard it? They played Sooner Than You Think, Age Of Consent, Blue Monday, IALP and Temptation.

Your Silent Face sound so heavenly, when I listen to it I think I'm floating in space

Atmosphere is just one of the best songs ever made, I love it - and the Peel is nice and new, but the same spirit remains.

Turn the Heater On. Because... I feel so cold at night.

Too Late is actually one of my favourite NO songs. I think the whole 2nd Peel sessions perfectly captures the spirit of experimentation of the time. Something to remember is that this Peel session was recorded by NO themselves in their own time and mailed to the BBC to play on Peel. They did not go into the BBC studios and record it one day like other Peel sessions and so the recordings are effectively well produced NO demos.

5-8-6 version is my favorite New Order song and what a journey I can take when played loud!

It was hard to choose between Isolation, Close Range and Atmosphere. So i voted for We All Stand :shy: (now you can start calling me names, trowing tomatoes et peut-être même me pitcher des claques...):D because i think that particular version of the song is simply brilliant. :music:

Hi Old Blue, I'd like to vote for Temptation BBC'84 too. In fact, Sooner Than You Think from that session was probably the only decent version I'd ever heard, was really disappointed when the edge was taken off it for Low-Life.

Wow, I thought I'd be the only one going for Turn the Heater On - amazed by its popularity !!!

Mainly because it's a cover version committed to vinyl (albeit via Strange Fruit not Factory), but because they did the reggae thing their own way - comes across very well indeed :)

yes...I just had to turn the heater on...it got cold...

I've always dug this little morsel from the order...
