as there seems to be much controversy over 'rock the shack' on this site (a song which i, for one, am not fond of), and IT has a healthy appreciation thread, i have decided to start a thread of my own for another song which is the subject of much derision here on NOOL: shellshock.

personally, i think it's a fantastic song. :D

for some reason, this is my favorite sleeve from new order. i got it framed behind my turntables...Shellshock was the song i used to use to try out car stereos...the lyrics are absolutely gorgeous when compared to the recent trifecta of Slow Jam, Rock the Shack and Run Wild.

Finally we can agree on something!

SO HIP IT HURTS

It's not that bad I s'pose. It comes from a particularly bad period in New Order singles history....Sub-culture Remix followed by Shellshock followed by State Of The Nation. Thank god BLT came along to save the day.

Shellshock's bloody great. Really like it now, having been no so keen when they were playing it live !

I dig the song. Oddly enough, that song always seems to get played when my friends are over becuase they just despise that song.

What's the deal with the video for Shellshock?

no way. not a good song. this type of new order song is the kind that kept me away from getting into NO for 3 years.

Sorry, can't agree with most of you. Shellshock is one of my least favourite New Order songs.

Terrible song, along with Sub culture and state of the nation, thank god for BLT thought that bad spell was never gonna end.

I think its weak. And it did come in a bad period, with the hideous Subculture remix (female background singers, will anyone ever learn) and State of The Nation.

Now Shellshock is probably the best of the 3 but still isnt good, the over the top very of the time production really doesnt help, and is in fact the main problem.

Has anyone heard The Arrogants cover of Shellshock, it is rather excellent. Stripped back, like what Frente did with BLT. Shows if bloody John Robbie wasnt involved there could be a decent song underneath all those tinny synth effects.

Cheers ALEX

Shellshock is good taken out of context, it is a very well done mid-80's song, but far from a classic. I can tolerate to listen to it ever few months.

(Yes, I know how much I was praising this about a week ago, but like they say "Times Change") :D

yes...this is a great song for checking out car stereos...you are surely speaking of the part where the synths jump back and forth from left to right channels, no???

ahhhhh....

also the chorus, which is just made for cruising in a car! just something about it...also the intro.

but you have to look like that dude from the memorex adverts. you know the one--sitting in the chair with the sunglasses, leather jacket and flowing hair.

Shellshock is great, i love the way it sounds as if they wrote loads of stuff for it and decided to include it all!

Great music, but silly lyrics. I feel the same about 'State of the Nation' as well. The 'Shellcock' mix is also pretty good, I like the intro alot for some reason.

A great song! Shame about that Robie fella (officially the worst producer ever: he even slags them off on Neworderstory!) on the producer chair...

Totally agree Jorge. Robie is a twat. His piece in NeworderStory was bogus. Everything he touched turned to dust. We know he's gonna end up in hell for what he did to Sub Culture. What a loser.

There was a bunch of lads who did the mini-tour in October 86 who all sported JOHN ROBIE IS A FOOKIN BUSTARD t-shirts - all spelt just like that!

(That's how Norverners talk, for those not familiar with the UK).
