Among the following five tracks, WHICH IS THE BEST NEW ORDER SONG EVER ?

Closed
  • Bizarre Love Triangle 23 (11%)
  • Ceremony 36 (17%)
  • Temptation 59 (27%)
  • The Perfect Kiss 55 (25%)
  • True Faith 43 (20%)

Dear NewOrderOnline members,

It is now time to separate the men from the kids, to separate the milk from the cream (I sound like Huntsman!).

219 people have voted and chosen the following five tracks as the best New Order songs ever:

1 - Temptation - 47 votes (21.46%) 2 - The Perfect Kiss - 25 votes (11.41%) 3 - True Faith - 23 votes (10.50%) 4 - Ceremony - 22 votes (10.04%) 5 - Bizarre Love Triangle - 18 votes (8.21%)

Honorable mention to World in Motion, which is the only song who did not gather ANY vote! How ironic this is, for New Order's only #1 single ever!

Also, is there something with New Order and song titles beginning with the letter "T" ?

I'm sure these choices will raise a lot of controversy, as the last poll already did, but this is part of the fun now, isn't it? ;)

So, it is now YOURS to decide: which song is the BEST New Order song of them all?

Discuss!

TPK rules!!!! I never get tired of listening to his song. :music:

Perfect. Say no more.

Tough choice. But I've always preferred Temptation and I still do.

Since I think Temptation will run away with this one, maybe we need to spice things up a bit and separate Temptation into Temptation (original 12"), Temptation (Substance 1987 re-recording), and Temptation 1998?

It's gotta be... Ceremony (7" version of course!). Sooooo damn good... Very closely followed by Temptation (original) Barney's voice is very scarey on that one!

True Faith for me

nice name for such an important poll. is like a movie title! again I have to say I chose TPK over BLT. still don´t know why because the triangle has always been my favourite. but in a way I feel like is the right thing to do, don´t ask me why.

Gotta be "True Faith"! I never grow tired of this one.

True Faith, the first song and video that got me into New Order, a complete masterpiece. Sounds as fresh as the day I first heard it

"True Faith" - the song that got me into New Order, the first New Order-video i saw, the song that changed my life completely. :truefaith:

BLT, because it never fails to make me smile! It has lighten up so many blue moods I am forever indebted to this song.

Has anyone voted for True Faith who was actually into New Order before True Faith came out? Can't see it meself. Thought Touched was a better track.

Ceremony for me, with Temptation and Perfect Kiss a hair's breadth behind. BLT, sadly, has been tainted by it's current live abhorration.

It doesn't matter whether u were into New Order before or after True Faith, or whatever song it is, I only vote for what I think is the best of New Order. So one vote for True Faith from me.

I was only asking. Personally, I think it's a good song but no better than lots of tracks from their period at the end of the eighties - Round & Round, Dream Attack, 1963, etc. It's pure pop, and little more. And, again, the current live version has tainted it somewhat IMO.

Temptation without a doubt. Ceremony is still a JD song (half-then for the purists). Best live track too, which song do fans sing on their way home from a gig?

Difficult choice this one....

They are all such amazing songs and all have parts that send shivers down my spine whenever i hear them. The winner for me is "True Faith", because of the ".. in a world that's so demanding" bit. You can hear emotion in Barney's voice and as a whole the song works so well.

True faith it is then....

Oh no, there is no Blue Monday. So, TEMPTATION!

True Faith...

You see this is a bit like that daft "proportional representation" voting system and that's what makes it interesting.

My first choice (Regret) is out so I now need to apportion my vote elsewhere. This will be true of many voters hence a result that looked like it was gonna be a foregone conclusion is in fact very tight. We need a closing date and time for voters though.

PS Perfect Kiss got the nod from me.

Its sooo close at the moment... which one will win?!

Ceremony. The others are great tracks too, but the opening on Ceremony still sends shivers down my spine to this day. I still remember the huge feeling of relief I felt the first time I heard it too. Relief that the magic hadn't died with Curtis.

  1. The Perfect Kiss - NewOrder at their peak...all the elements coming together Perfect-ly

  2. Temptation

  3. Ceremony

  4. BLT

  5. True Faith

i agree with Al on the live versions being insults to the glory of the original sound on BLT and True Faith...in fact, maybe Roger Lyons is a crap programmer who is unknowingly making NewOrder sound like plastique pop?

Hadr to choose. Ceremony is a JD song. Temptation is good..., True Faith is too commercial, PFK is a litle bit dated...

My pick BLT Why: Extremely powerful song and has been growing on me since I heard it first on Brotherhood in 86. Sublimal song structure. Catchy and powerful lyrics. Best Hooky ending on any song (including TPK)

wow...a toughie..

the kiss just shades it for its power as a live track...the best opening track at gigs bar none...

temptation a close second.....al, i remember you saying at an outdoor festival in the states that you have a sublime memory of this..as a finishing song alongside the sunset...etc

certain tracks have special moments...tpk live at leeds tiffs...we had waited an age for them to come on...the crowd was restless, breathless and eager...the rush when this track kicked in will stay with me for a long time..

I couldn't bring myself to vote in the first round, but I'm now (following the elimination of AOC and DNE) throwing my not very considerable weight behind The Perfect Kiss.

Sorry to vote against True Faith, which holds a very special place in my New Order heart, but The Perfect Kiss is probably slightly (only slightly) better.

Plus I'm bored with Temptation winning these things, and TPK is the most likely alternative to win.

"True Faith" - The first NO song I heard, the first video I saw, the reason for me to buy the "Best Of" in 1998, and start listening to No & Jd!!! (How melancholic) - I'll never get tired of listening to it. :jump: :truefaith:

Very nearly TPK but Temptation has to be the one for me. All time classic that blew me away when i first heard it. Sounds as good today as anything around at the moment.

The Perfect Kiss is one of those songs that hits all of your emotions. The final like 3 minutes of that song is unbelievable. I love the way the base and keyboard compete back and forth for the ending. The video makes this the greatest song for New Order because it is them raw and simple, Cold and Cocky.

Ceremony....when I first heard Temptation in '82, it truly was a revelation, but Ceremony is/was such a poignant bridge between what was and what is that it will always stand out.

Exact same feeling here, and the last NO gig that I went to, I walked out singing Ceremony.

So what this poll mean is that, just like the band, nobody thinks Blue Monday is one of their best and should be played at each and every show?

http://neworderonline.com/thread.asp?action=&thread_id=6704&forum_id=1 try this, its on the first page of threads (hope this link works!) i just downloaded both. thanks much again to LowLife!

Anyone who's read a posting of mine knows it's the 7" of Temptation that gets it.At the time so different to anything I'd ever heard. Nostalgia now for those happy days.......

Im not sure if I should vote on this poll because I have only heard the Substance versions of these songs.

Do they happen to be the best versions of these songs or should I look into other cds to hear the best versions? And if so where and for which songs?

Nikos, check out low-life's downloads on another thread. Those are the best versions of both. Substance has the 12" Temptation and the re-recorded Ceremony with Gillian on it. Good, but nowhere near the first version.

That is clearly a close poll!

it has got to be the perrrrrrrrfect kiss, just for the bass line.

I voted TPK of course. Just like I voted for it the first time.

Hey cool! TPK and Temptation are tied! It'd be cool to see TPK win. Though Tempation is a damn good song as well. It's been growing on me.

Very, very close call with Temptation, but it has to be Bizarre Love Triangle. I feel priviliged to have seen it first performed live (or so I believe) at Hemel Hempstead in 1985.

ehhh...ya know the 7" version of Ceremony has its charm, but overall i think the 12" wins out. now the 7" version of temptation is a true gem. you have to listen to it before you vote!!

My vote is for The Perfect Kiss. It was my introduction to NO, and the silver 12inch was my first NO record. After all these years it is still fresh no matter how many times I hear it. A simply perfect 9 minutes!

Ceremony and Temptation equal 2nd!

TOUCHED BY THE HAND OF GOD IS SUPERB FROM THE STUDIO BUT PIPPING IT FOR BEING AMAZING LIVE IS AGE OF CONSENT

Of the 5 has to be either Temptation or Ceremony. Hmmm, tough one.

Both are standouts live but Temptation was the first record where I think New Order found their own sound post Joy Division, so Temptation it is.

Heaven, a gateway of hope - says it all really.

Maybe.

Jeremy...you should search for a tape of TPK live in Sweden (I think) in 1984, nearly a year before the recorded version got released. If I remember correctly, it runs to 9.5 minutes long. An awesome, powerful version.

Would have loved to vote for Everything's gome green in the preselection, cant understand why it was missing?

By the way, the representation of non-single Technique tracks on Retro is hugely disappointing. Guilty partner is one of New Order's best non-singles!!!

I've got to disagree. Primarily, it's a New Order song. Admittedly, with lyrics penned by Ian Curtis.

Temptation just ahead of ceremony, but why these 5 songs? I could pick another dozen as good or better than TPK.

Temptation always wins. Not that I don't like it too, but it would be nice to see something else win for a change.

Hey, where is Blue Monday?! I can't believe it isn't listed at the Top 5! Anyway, the 7 inch version of Ceremony is the best music ever recorded in studio and released by New Order (JD only recorded it live).

Its Joy Divisions, New Order just made it sound better.

I'm gonna beg to differ. It's a link between the two bands, but it's still a New Order song. It's synonymous with New Order, and not Joy Division. They've made it their own.

That would give a good thread: "Ceremony: A JD or NO song??? Justify".

I'm too drunk to justify it right now... but I would give the credits to JD... if there's any difference between them, but that´s another thread... ;)

Well BLT is the life-changing song which I had. Woke up on a sunday morning in August 97 put it on video hits and they played Bizzare Love Triangle as a flashback. It changed everything completely forever.

In saying all that I voted for True Faith.

Cheers ALEX

General consensus. These 5 songs got the most votes in a previous poll. A dozen songs better than TPK ? You are having a tin barf !!

I listen TPK everynight. BLT used to have this spot but that time just passed (still a pretty good song).

TRUE FAITH...by the shortest hair in Hooky's beard, ahead of Temptation and TPK. I totally empathise with several other contributors who revealed how TF turned them onto the band. It was like finding God for me and then I had the delicious task of delving into previous works like the above-mentioned tracks. DR

Is this poll to name everyone's SECOND favourite New Order track, or their favourite?

How on earth, when presented with twenty choices, could Temptation beat Perfect Kiss into submission by 22 votes, but now - at this point in time - only leads it by 2?

Bizarre.

I'm English, we don't do proportional representation. You either win something, or you don't.

As I said earlier it's PR innit? Everyone whose first choice has dissapeared (like mine, Regret) has to then re-apportion their vote. Obviously more people whose first choice was voted off prefer TPK, meself included.

One vote in it at the mo. There's got to be some kind of closing date on it though eh?

Does seem a bit suspect though - and it's hardly 'proportional'. Temptation has only picked up a further 3 votes, but Perfect Kiss gets, like, 25? 8 to 1 in favour of the latter? That's believable. Not.

Im sorry but TPK is SO not their best song in their history.

Im sure the video has swayed a lot of people as its flawless and quite possibly one of their finest moments to date.

But a lot of people seem to be wetting themselves over the song and although it undeniably deserves to be a top 5 it lacks the power and emotion of certain other songs.

'I'm English, we don't do proportional representation. You either win something, or you don't.'

What, like when Labour actually got more votes in 1970 but the Tories 'won' the election due to the stupid system ? What's happened is that the sort of person who prefers the omitted songs as their favourite are apparently much more likely to prefer TPK as their second favourite.

Er, I do understand Proportional Representation, 'Bill', but what I fail to understand is that Temptation ROMPED this originally (when given wider choice, it garnered TWICE the votes of its nearest rival), but when we've cut it down to just five it's actually trailing in LAST place when compared the other four. Everyone's votes have gone elsewhere, BUT Temptation (which has only picked up just 3 further votes as I type).

So, it seems you either LOVE Temptation, or HATE it. And there's no middle ground. Which surprises me, as I thought the votes would continue to grow consistently with the previous round. Personally, I voted for Ceremony.

i heard that "Temptation" Jr.(87)'s brother runs the website host company and has a cousin who has high influence with the webmasters, and that they all conspired to block all votes originating from Australia (because they are descended from criminals and undesirables and can't be trusted). also, the poll was very confusing to the illiterate fans of New Order, as well as these fans who lack a computer. this is unquestionably unfair! plus, how can explain why "BLT" got less than half the votes of "Temp"? pretty shady...

just goes to show that nothing ever changes
