What other things would you like New Order to do to pacify our tastes? I, for one, would like the band to create an album amongst themselves, without outside help. What do you think?

i would love to see new order do some more electronic music. vicous streak was awesome, now we need some more...BUT the key is to keep Hooky prominent in the mix unlike Republic. I agree they should not use any collaborators on the next album with the exception of a good producer (chemicals treatment of Here To Stay was really good) and a mix engineer to mix the album in 5.1.

Next on the agenda and easy as pie to slap together and get our money --- The Complete Video Collection on DVD.

They should demo 20ish songs for the next album, release them to this site as 1 minute samples and then we decide which tracks should make up the album using the polls feature.

do a quickie record under a fake name with loud guitars, no keyboards, low budget production and bad attitude vocals
how about doing an entire movie soundtrack with a good number of instrumentals ? That would be fun and would pad their nest eggs nicely too

I also vote for more live recordings...this has 2 primary advantages for them:

The material is already done and just needs to be transferred to cd/dvd. With current gear these can be created/burned very easily.
They could easily sell good clean copies of live soundboard recordings to hardcore fans looking to fill out their collection (I think that Pearl Jam did something like this to cash in on the bootlegs of their concerts) ...and of course the packaging would need to be negligible...distribution is easy...mail order ...directly from Manchester. They could probably hire a few local kids to take the orders, burn the cd's and send 'em out.

I figure (and its just a guess) that there are at least 500 to 1000 very hardcore fans (those who like to collect everything and are completists). If each of these fans bought say 10 concerts over the course of 1 year at $20.00 per concert that works out to be...

750 (fans) X 10 (concerts) X 20 (per concert) = $150,000

Hey this is even more than the Sunkist commercial right? And they don't have to publicly embarrass themselves as most of these hardcore fans would treasure "official" releases of bootlegs...

The real question here is do they own the rights to all of their concert recordings? Not sure how all of this works...

good idea but one fatal flaw. it's too easy.

I think the next album will be better than Get Ready. They are, one could assume, "warmed up" or even "Ready" to write some amazing music. Did Phil already have previous commitments or is he recording with N.O.? Hopefully Gillian will press a few buttons and twiddle a couple nobs....uh......right....you know what i mean.

Or maybe a Retro re-release(ReRetro, anyone?), with the following content: Disc One: The infamous "only-available-in-UK" 5th disc Disc Two: Club (with NOT exactly the same tracklisting, but that's another matter...) Disc Three: Live Disc Four: Cinema (a DVD with all the clips)

Yes! YES!!! Bring out the live stuff! That's the only reason I'm buying Retro!

There's been, what, 3 Joy Division concerts released since 1999 and the Peel Sessions, but nada from New Order! I know we have a couple DVDs to choose from (at last), but some CDs that I pop into the car for my longer trips is a must. Especially for a band that has done so many unique shows.

And Pearl Jam, in an extremely classy move I must say, decided to stop bootlegging of their shows once and for all by releasing most (if not all) of their past concerts on CD. Since most of the cost of a CD nowadays goes to recouping the cost of promoting the CD, a group like Pearl Jam or, say, New Order, could release a bunch of live concerts with no promotion costs and still make a killing by only selling a few thousand copies of most of the shows (there's got to be more than 1,000 New Order junkies in the world too). I'm not saying that New Order's fanbase is as large as Pearl Jam's, but if it's large enough to support 3 Joy Division live releases in recent year, it's large enough to support at least one CD release.

Haven't seen New Order Story yet, but I thought that was for 200,000 pounds.

Neither do I. Doesn't London now own their whole back catalog? Does "back catalog" include unreleased soundboard recordings of shows?

Nice idea, but Karen absolutely hates The Fall ! She used to quite like them a few years back, but constant overexposure to-uh fookin-uh bloody blimey space invader pre-cog ey bastardo has tipped her over the edge of reason :(
