Blatently OT....

3 pages of discussion on depress moan :nono:

Al & Don, I think Sebsy said once that "Digital Republic" was not only for all things New Order but for "serious musical discussion".

So you are right, talking about DM is completely off topic, innit ;)

Depress Moan? Christ, that's the worst piss-take of their name I've ever seen. Try better next time, please.

At best, this should be on the other forum - sorry to say that this sums up my belief that many of (not all!) the US fans have completely missed the point where the Order are concerned. The common denominator these bands have is the decade they were most prolific. Nothing more.

They're also both followed by slightly effeminate accountants with a penchant for leather skirts and eye-liner.

Er, aren't they? :eek3:

Watch out or I'll start a 'does anyone here like David Hasselhoff?' thread.

Vince Clark rules.
I haven't listened to any DM past the '85 years, so as far as I know, anything done with Vince Clark in the band is superior (although I really like Leave in Silence), and everything following was probably just based on the work he did, and eventually turned into what it is today.

I can taste more than feel This burning inside is so real I can almost lay my hands upon The warm glow that lingers on

Moved, lifted higher Moved, my soul's on fire Moved, by a higher love

I surrender all control To the desire that consumes me whole

Leads me by the hand to infinity Lies in wait at the heart of me

Moved, lifted higher Moved, my soul's on fire Moved, by a higher love

Heaven bound on the wings of love There's so much that you can rise above

Moved, lifted higher Moved, moved, by a higher love By a higher love

I surrender heart and soul Sacrificed to a higher goal

Moved, moved by a higher love By a higher love

New Order can only DREAM writing such magnificant lyrics!

They were definitely a huge impact on what I've loved and still love musically. The thing I can't take are the ballads, though. They always made me cringe, and still do. However they have made some of the best music I have heard over the course of the years.

I like DM! I think I've seen more DM shows than NO, but it doesn't mean I like DM more or less than NO. I wasn't able to go to concerts until 1993! :( Also, there weren't any NO/JD fans I knew at the time. I've definitely listened to NO much longer than I have to DM. To me, bands like NO and DM were instrumental in introducing synthesizers to popular---and not-so-popular---music.

Though Depeche have produced some passable pop songs over the years - Enjoy The Silence - I Feel You - Never Let Me Down Again - the suggestion that their lyrics are superior to any bands let alone New Orders is a joke...very bad rhymes and far too much sex & religion...usually in the same sentence. GIve them their due though - Lysette Anthony was RIDE OF THE FUCKING CENTURY in that video! see; http://users.stargate.net/~bambam/la-ify03.jpg
