How do they write

I have always being curious about how New Order write their songs. In the past, when songs used to get lots of airplay before they were released it could have been easier to consider them a joint effort. That seems to be no longer the case. Crystal is well documented as to having been written solely by Barney not even with New Order in mind. Nevertheless it is atributed to the whole band. Hooky has claimed paternity over TBTHOG.

Who gets the royalties then? Is Barney the most generous soul on Earth, splitting them with his mates? How are said royalties split these days, three or fourwise?

Who wrote the lyrics to Run Wild? Was it Stephen or Barney?

So many questions, so little time. Next time I'll propose a poll. Promised.

Gillian writes everything, the boys know nothing.

Don't steal my thread, Major! (before it's won)

I'm not stealing it, that's the truth! Isn't it everyone? Gillian writes all the songs entirely.

As I understand it, the band still operate as a democracy and therefore will split proceeds 4 ways. Not sure if any of that changed with the temporary departure of Gillian but there you go...

Actually i was lying... john denver gets all the royalties.

The songs are written by New Order, or, in some cases, Gillian, Hook, Morris & Sumner, so I guess the royalties are equally spllited, thus avoying the usual "musical differences" that make bands fall apart... Of course, the real truth is that they each contribute with their own songs, for instance: TBTHOG- synth part written by Hooky (not the entire song, Budvar!) Avalanche- written by Gillian and husband Republic- written by Sumner, Albrecht & Dicken

On the other hand, I once read an Hooky interview where he said that he formed Revenge because he was lousy at working solo and was unable to write anything alone...

maybe each one of them writes songs separately but then they sign as the group ("written by new order") so royalties are equally divided for each one. that´s the legal point of view. I think it´s a sort of pact they have.

To sum it up: We don't have a clue. :read:

Oh well: Which one do you prefer Temptation 7" or Temptation 12"?
