And remember the Youth? And the 'Youth Youth Youth' chant that went up at gigs. They were a tasty bunch of fellas. Lots of tattoos of New Order in there too. Actually, mentioned a lad called Simon earlier in this thread cos we ran into him in Sweden last year and he'd done the German stuff in 84 and he had a New Order tattoo too - 'Perfect Kiss' across the top of his arm.

Is that the massive guy, about 6'6" or so, now gonna be late 30s and came from out Nottingham way I think. He'd got a couple of NO tattoos.

god yes i remember that huge guy.... every gig i attended in the mid 80s he was there...and jarvo yes whatever the weather he always wore shorts....fcuk me it seems like yesterday....

We kept in touch for years afterwards. Funny how you meet people sometimes.DM

yes...the merrion centre in leeds was/is a shopping centre...and the tiffs club was somewhere in the middle of it... the leisure centre gig at macc still had the badminton markings on the floor...so for one night only it was converted for a heaving mass of maniacs to get crushed to near death...

during that time..a year later i think...did you manage to get to the sheff roxy gig??...the barry noble club on top of a multi-storey car park...what a venue that was...

I think there were 3 shows at the Tower Ballroom possibly '83, '85 and '86 of which I went to the latter 2. How can you forget the palm trees in the middle of the dance floor - probably my favourite ever venue!

I 've just been totting up my amount of gigs and its 22 which is alot less than I thought. The nearest being Finsbury Park (a 5 mins walk from the flat) last summer and the furthest Dusseldorf in December 1987 - god that was cold.

Some great memories in this thread - I'd completely forgotten about the guy in the shorts and the beard. I remember seeing him for the first time at one of the Hacienda gigs.

Ah, the fake plastic trees ! Has to be my favourite venue as well, and is the only venue I've seen them three times in (I should have gone to more than one Brixton gig in 2001 !!)

I always enjoyed the gigs at the Ballroom in Birmingham (or was it actually called Edgbaston?) Next to a river? The show at the Powerhouse in the same city was superb too. Then again, back then they were all pretty special, in their own way.

Leeds Tiffs was my first time,don't remember much except worrying i wouldn't get in coz i was under 18.Sheff uni(octagon?) was a cracking gig.The Roxy was in 87 and I seem to remember almost leaving coz no-one expected an encore and we got "do the ostrich".'86 Liverpool getting caught in the rush from the bar to the hall as TPK started everyone thought New Order would be on last.G-mex"tenth summer" a favourite if only for Mac singing Ceremony.Heady Days.

The Tower Ballroom was actually above part of Edgbaston Reservoir. Something about the apparent unsuitability of the venue made it a far better choice of venue - sure, The Powerhouse was better suited to gigs, but I always enjoyed the Tower Ballroom. And it was only half an hour from home :)

There was a group from manc i believe,I know one of them as alex though I believe you call him stash.He got andy robinson to get me on the guest list for Boston and NY.One of the other guys i think turns up in Neworderstory stood next to barney when he accuses wilson of ruining his career. Saw most of them again at reading 98 and alex in the pub at the second appollo gig in 01.

As an aside I do remember an obnoxious barman at the greatwoods gig refusing to serve me coz i had neither a US drivers licence(license!) or a US passport.Finally got a beer by doing the all american thing and complaining to his superior.Also you couldn't buy rounds unless you all went up together to show your ID.This wasn't at every gig but i do recall it happening.

I only did four,toronto,ny,washington and boston.I think there were only another four gigs on that tour which quite possibly could've been dry(knowing the states).By the way do you remember a prospective gig in 87? Plymouth Rocks at PAFC's ground,had tickets but then it got pulled,seem to remember the banshees and spear of destiny were also on the bill,would have made an interesting day.

lost my cash on that as well,as far as new order live letdowns thats gotta take the biscuit.

I didn't do too bad a job did I Dave? - what about spraying "Guns 'n' Roses" over the walls at the Gainesville Holiday Inn or you throwing up on that waitresses floor - or indeed me crashing that blonde birds VW Bug at 4 in the morning or blah, blah, blah...or the worst of all - YOU getting of with that gal in Atlanta and dropping your passport in the back of her car - only realising this half way to New Orleans the next day - oops!

I was in the process of trying to find Molly's house by 'borrowing' a map in the Circle K when I noticed a police car had pulled up outside and the female officer was shining her pencil torch first over our delightfully decorated white AVIS rental car, then turning her attention to the other crumpled wreck which had wriggled into the back seat!

I had visions of the both of us in orange boiler suits humming Mr Disco in solitary confinement but thankfully she shared a good sense of humour and actually helped me find the way to Molly's house.

Yeah, promoter went bust didn't they? Never got my money back for that one. New Order were only about 7th on the bill though - and were due on about 2 in the afternoon or something!!!

I'd forgotten that one ! Yes, we never got a refund either.
