Single versions ... good or not?

When you think about it, do you think the album versions are better than the single versions of the tracks?

Very few managed to be released in the same way as on the album (first example in my head is Regret), and some are enhanced by a remix or an edit.

Let's see over the last two albums, let me know what you think.

Regret

They couldn't have done better than this version.

World

Even though the single version would be the "Radio Edit", I think the Perfecto Edit of this song is simply evil :evil: when I saw the video live on TV with this version (never saw the other video until NewOrderStory), I was amazed.

Ruined in a Day

The edit job goes well, but I'm not sure it was needed.. the K-Klass Edit was quite good though, maybe that should have been the single version.

Spooky

This is the perfect example, the Minimix (the single and video version) enhance the songs a lot.

Crystal

The radio edit rocks.. the album version is seriously not needing that cheesy intro, go to the essential, that's the way to go.

60 Miles An Hour

Just love the way the single version ends.. don't like fade out... nice enhancement, is there anything else different?

Here To Stay

The single version is a lot better in my idea, the "full version" has some boring parts that you don't have on the single version... nice work!

Any others? Ceremony 7" vs 12" for example :wink:

well...let's see.

60 Miles An Hour: to be honest, i prefer the radio edit to the album cut. the shorter version is just perfect.

Here To Stay: here i think, that the full length version is much better, the Hooky bass-solo at the end of the song is gorgeous!

Crystal: i prefer the album edit, the single version is a bit too forced. it really sounds like a "come on, let's cut it down to a single format". No, the instrumental part after the second chorus has to be there. for the others...hm...i don't care much about the stuff off "Republic"...

For purely selfish reasons of getting more songs onto compilation cd's or tapes, I can quite happily put up with edits....I have just copied a couple of "Best Of" NO tapes for a couple of lads at work, if they enjoy the tapes, I'll then lend them the albums / 12"s with the original cuts. Crystal....I prefer the LP, HTS I prefer the radio edit, 60mph....the early version on 20 years of NO is great!

Subculture and Perfect Kiss are the 2 most obvious examples, with the LP version of Subculture blowing away the single version, and vice versa for TPK.
