Do these "rare" New Order tracks actually exist?

I've been updating my lengthy list of New Order songs (which can be seen online by clicking here) as I've just got hold of the 'Electronic Ecstatsy' CD - a great quality live recording, indeed.

What I'd like to know, is relating to my "wants" list. I've got most of this information from the New Order Discography on the Internet, but there seem to be a few versions of tracks that I've never heard mentioned by New Order Onliners.

I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me if the following tracks in my list actually exist, or if they are simply wrongly named versions of the released mixes, or incorrect timings of them.

• 7": UK 1983 (Factory FAC 73-7) [promo] Blue MondayThe Beach - I know there weren't many of these around, but what are the running times, and was it an edit of 'The Beach' on there?

• 7": JP 1984 (Factory/Nippon Columbia TD-1098) [promo] Unique Factory sleeve. 4:09 Blue Monday - anyone got this 1984 edit of Blue Monday, does it exist? If so, is it the same as the rare, original 7"?

• 7": PL 1988 (Tonpress DS-25-A) [promo] Unique sleeve. The promo was made in 60 copies. 5:05 Blue Monday - is this the correct running time (i.e. a different version)?

• 7": GE 1983 (Rough Trade LC 5661) [1 sided promo] Vinyl comes in eight different colours: green, lime, blue, purple, marble green/red, green clear vinyl, red clear vinyl and yellow clear vinyl. 3:38 Confusion (edit) - was this just a faded out version of the original seven inch, a different edit, or just an incorrect timing of the original seven inch?

• 10": UK 1985 (Factory FAC 123) [acetate for side A] 10": UK 1985 (Factory FAC 123) [acetate for side B] 3:51 The Perfect Kiss (edit)3:01 Kiss of Death (edit) - do these, really short versions exist, or were they mis-timed for this discography entry? Anyone got 'em?

• 12": CA 1985 (Factory/Polygram DJF 159) [promo] 4:10 The Perfect Kiss (album edit) 7": CA 1985 (Factory/Polygram DJ 81) [promo] 4:10 The Perfect Kiss (edited version)4:10 The Perfect Kiss (edited version) - not edit, surely? A mis-timed version of the 4:23 seven inch edit? Anyone know exactly how many versions of 'The Perfect Kiss' there are, and what's the story behind all these edits?

• 7": BL 1985 (Factory 7FAC133) 4:57 Sub-culture (remix edit) - is the Remix Edit the same as the version which appears on 'Substance', or another edit different to the 7" and 12" versions?

• 12": US 1986 (Qwest PRO-A-2636) [promo] [3:23 Bizarre Love Triangle (7" edit)] b/w: 4:58 Bizarre Love Triangle (extended edit) - what is the Extended Edit? A clipped version of the Shep 12" mix, a longer version of the Shep 7" or another, different mix?

• 12": US 1994 (Qwest PRO-A-7622) [promo] 6:44 Bizarre Love Triangle (extended dance mix) 7:00 I Don't Care (dub) * Bizarre Love Triangle (12" alternate) 3:44 Bizarre Love Triangle (single remix) 4:20 Bizarre Love Triangle (original lp version) - 12" Alternate: what's that? Any ideas? Running time?

• 12": AU 1990 (Factory/Festival X14849) 12": FR 1990 (Virgin 80534) 12": SP 1990 (Nuevos Medios 31-512M) 12": SW 1990 (Factory/MCA FAC 293) 12": UK 1990 (Factory/MCA FAC 293) 12": UK 1990 (Factory/MCA WFACX 293) [white label DJ promo] 4:27 World in Motion... * 5:51 World in Motion... (the b-side) - Pretty sure this is a mis-timing: my 12" version of The B-side only clocks in as the same as the seven inch version. Anyone know of a longer, 5:51 version?

• World (The Price of Love) - An italian CD5 with an exclusive remix by Daniel Abraham is said to exist. Anyone got this?

• Threesome Soundtrack CD: US 1994 (Epic EK 57881) 3:23 Bizarre Love Triangle - faded-out single mix/album version/94 version/Stephen Hague mix/Shep Pettibone remix? Any ideas?

I'd appreciate any information anyone's got on these releases, as I've never found any of them (especially all the 'Perfect Kiss' mixes), and don't even know if they were ever released!

The coloured vinyl Rough Trade Confusion single is a fade-out of the original 12" mix.

One thing I can't see on your list is the BM88 DJ Only Remix, as found on the Fac73RDJ promo 12". Sadly there are no credits on the label or sleeve, so to this day I don't know who the remixer was.

Well, the info on that mix (and running times) at http://www.niagara.edu/neworder/singles/bm88.html would suggest it's the same as 'Blue monday 1988 (Dub Version)' which I have on a Canadian imported CD single. It's basically the full length original twevel inch mix, but with the vocals removed, and the 1988 mix's extra percussion and samples overlayed on top. it has the same remixing credits as the other 'Blue Monday 1988' versions. Running time is 7:17 on my CD version.

Regarding this last bit of Blue Monday (Japanese edit), yes I have this on mp3. In fact, I think it was put on NOOL as an mp3 awhile back. I have it on 128kbps and share it on winmx as well. As far as your second question I'm not sure, but mine does check in at (4:09).

It is an edit. I think it was made for that release only. I've got that on tape, I think it got leaked around 1997 when I pointed some big German fan to the 7inch for sale for £100, and I got it on tape as a reward. You don't need it. Believe me.

Just play the original version and fade it out at 5:05.

Actually - The UK version is a slaughtered edit of the existing Low Life version. Same applies to Kiss Of Death. As for the Benelux edits, they are different (If i remember well - Same applies to Subculture, no matter how bad the Robie versions can be, the Benelux edits are the best ones.)

Can't remember - But there are loads of edits for TPK, and they just suck. The video version was even edited and pressed onto vinyl.

See above. That's the 12inch remix, adited. It is different to the UK edit. Dubvulture is also edited.

Aside is an edit of the album version. As for the Bside, it is the Pettibone remix, which is also shortened (but different to the Pettibone single version with Hook's bass at the end).

Nobody ever heard it. I think it was based on a rumour.

If you have the Factory Tape fac305c, then that's just pretty much the same (that version is also the Best Of 94 one, minus Bernard's "doo doo doo" after the first chorus).

the BM88 DJ only mix is NOT just a dub with no vocals...it is a very different mix...just give it a listen sometime before we come to rash judgements...

I have two edits of 'Perfect Kiss': the Low-life version (also the UK seven inch mix), and the Factory Benelux 7", which is a slightly shorter (and nicer) 4:23. I only have one edit of 'Kiss Of Death' (also known as 'Perfect Dub') which is 5:10. So there were definitely one other version of each side: (3:51/3:01 - as above)? Or do I need to remove it from my "wants" list?

I have that Video version on a promo twelve inch, and it is indeed clipped - but stereo, unlike the one on disc five of Retro!

As far as I remember, there are two TPK / KOD edits. (BL + UK on 7inch). So yes, these are indeed the 3:xx versions you read about.

Same for Subculture.

Thing is, these Perfect Kiss mixes (the three minute ones)were only acetates, weren't they? Is it really worth trying to track these down in 2003, when acetates probably won't be playable will they? Anyone actually got these really short edits on decent vinyl?

As for Sub-culture, can anyone tell me if the 4:57 Remix Edit is the same as the version which appears on Substance?

ok, depends on which versions you want. refer to the discography. just keep in mind that Subcultre Benelux 7" is different to the Substance version... then check the time length on the discography and get back to me - I'll see what I can do through my FTP :)
