My vote goes to Regret; one of the first New Order songs I ever heard.

Gonna have to go with Paradise, one of my favorite NO tracks on Brotherhood, and perhaps ever.

I'm torn apart between Disorder and Age of Consent here... Damn. I guess I'll pick Disorder, the lyrics are very moving. Perhaps one of the few positive songs they ever released. Well, maybe not positive, but you can feel a desire for hope as Ian's singing.

these are too hard to choose. most are good openers and cracking tunes, but i'm going out on a limb to pick crystal here cos i love that tune at the moment. the best fucking record of 2001.

Agree! AOC! The thought of that bass line has made me go all shivery/sweaty/tingly, you name it! What a start to a great album. BTW Merry XMAS!

None of the above....doubt if they have had much radio play. Love Will Tear Us Apart' was the first song i ever heard and it always stuck firmly in my mind. Next had to be 'Blue Monday....

Hells bells that is a tough one. Could be any one of 5. Ironically, though Technique is by far my fave album, FT is not on the short-list.

i went with 'age of consent'. new order really found themselves with PC&L, and this song is a perfect entrance to the album. honourable mentions: hmmm, almost any of the rest, really! i don't think they ever started any of their albums with a dodgy song, IMHO.

For me, it's crystal. I had not been paying too much attention to new order since right before republic. My wife picked up Get ready the day it came out because she " thought I might want to check it out, didn't you use to love these guys?" when I put it on, I thought my head was going to explode. I was so amped! I totally fell in love with new order again. Thats what I call a comeback. also, the live version on Retro is one of the real highpoints of the box for me.

Love Vig', but Paradise is a very good album opener too, though I don't like Bro'hood.

The exact same reasons here; it sure lifted my spirits on a fine spring morning in 83 when I heard that song for the first time, without knowing who it was.

Age of Consent. It was the dawning of a new era. The doom and gloom had gone, and here was Barney being plaintive and amusing on an album, something you'd never have got on Movement.

AOC. Ushers in not only PC&L but New Order as a band with its own, distinct personality.

1982 - Disorder, I was thirteen years old and heard it from listening to my big brothers 'Still' LP. It was fast, good drumming, great guitar, dark, beautiful, mysterious lyrics - quite simply, it changed my life.

Love Vigilantes...one of my top 10 NO songs.

This one is easy for me, Love Vigilantes. "Low-Life" was the first album by Them that I purchased on its release date. I had heard "P,C and L" and was hooked, bought that and everything else I could find and then waited. I still remember the trip to the record store and the long ride home, driving with my knee while I carefully opened the shrink wrap. Those four snare hits, that was it. I still have that old, worn album and it is my most cherished although not my rarest.

LOVE VIGILANTES for me.Excellent start to a classic ALBUM.

I'm going to have to go with "Disorder" because "Unknown Pleasures" was my first JD/NO album and as soon as I put it in the player and hit play.... it was love at first listen. The memory of that (and the fact that the effect has not faded after all this time later) makes it the best album opener in my opinion.

As far as New Order albums go though, I'd have to pick "Regret" from "Republic". Nothing else reaches out and grabs you quite as that one does. :)

REGRET as it has the best opening riff of a NewOrder song

and it reminds me of hot summers and Beach Volleyball!!!!! ;)
