Well folks, I've been hating New Order most of this week-end so far. I've just added a lot of material into the discography, mostly compilations... and it's not over! (there are 152 now in the database!!)

It's incredible, I never saw this coming, but it seems our boys & gal have are featured on one compilation per month over the last 10 years, since they signed with London Records..

The amount of 80's compilations over there is amazing. I managed to do most of the New Order ones I managed to find (there are still a few in the bank), I didn't do the side-projects and Joy Division compilations search yet.

But I must say, this is a monk's job (if that can be said in english), it's very boring and time consuming.

And well, since I was lurking, I managed to find US chart positions for most albums, I added back the chart listing feature on the new "release" page in the discography area... if you are interested, I also added the name of the chart, and it's amazing to see how many New Order singles reached the #1 in Club Play like Crystal did last year..!!

Oh well, I seriously need some sleep now, might continue a little tomorrow.. but this is far from over, since I will have to start the bootleg one sooner or later if I want to finish this ;) and I know all damned gigs are bootlegged, since mr Benny has over 500.. but I don't think they are all commercially available.

Ah well, someone has to do it, but I must say I'm proud to say we currently have the more complete New Order discography on the web.. the only missing thing is the various releases with catalog numbers for each country, I have only done the various TRACKLISTINGS..

The next boring job will be to double-check everything and make sure they exist..!

Does anyone actually care? :skeptic:

P/S: If you read up to here, go outside and enjoy your day, it seems you have some time to waste :D

Hi there. Good job on the discography, but (sorry) here's a few corrections.

Despite the quote you have for the 'Ceremony' entry, 'In A Lonely Place' was recorded twice - or at least mixed differently. You can read the discussion in the forum here, and download the mp3 files of the seven inch and original twelve inch to prove it!

'The Perfect Kiss': I have the promo QWEST 12" with the live video version, and that is actually edited, only clocking in at 5:13, rather than being the full-length version you have listed. The UK seven inch has the Low-life version on the A side, and the 5:09 'Kiss Of Death' on the flip. The shorter, three minute edits seem to only have been promo acetates.

'Bizarre Love Triangle'. I have the Canadian gatefold sleeve 7 inch version. This features 'Bizarre Love Triangle (Remixed & Edited)', which is a slightly different edit and 3:36 in length. The B-side is the normal seven inch version of 'Bizarre Dub Triangle'. The catalogue number is FAC 26, on Polygram Records.

'True Faith'. There's a UK CD Video, with a (now unplayable on DVD players etc) video of the single, and three regular CD audio tracks: 'True Faith (Remix 12 Inch)' 9:02/'Evil Dust' 3:43/'True Faith (Remix 7 Inch)' 4:06. Catalogue number Facdv 183.

'Fine Time'. All mixes you have labelled as 'album version', are in fact a slightly different mix with exactly the same running time. No one ever believes me on this one, but get the original twelve inch on the vinyl, play it at 1:16-1:20, then play the same section on 'Technique' - a different version, see?

'World In Motion'. There is no 5:51 UK twelve inch version of 'The B-side', it's the same 4:48 version that's on the UK seven inch. The 'No Alla Violenza' version on the UK remix 12" (Factory/MCA FAC 293R) is only 4:12, and has been edited (possibly to meet a maximum running time limit in the UK for 12" singles). Likewise, on the UK CD single (Factory/MCA FACD 293) there is a shorter version of 'The B-Side', at only 4:14 - probably for similar reasons.

'True Faith-94'. I have the one-track CD promo CD Promo (NEWCDJ5), and it's not 4:41, it's the normal 4:28 1994 radio edit.

'1963-95' Running time for Shep Pettibone remix of 'True Faith' on the UK digipack should be 9:02.

'60 Miles An Hour'. The 'James Holden Heavy Dub' of 'Someone Like You' on the UK CD5 NUCDP9 is edited, and only 6:43.

'Here To Stay'. The version of 'Crystal' on the UK 12" is actually longer than the album version at 7:08, and is the original version from the rough mixes of 'Get Ready'.

'Confusion Remixes 2002'. These are horribly confusion (literally), as some have re-recorded vocals by Barney, but are otherwise exactly the same as the promo versions which did the rounds with his original 1983 vocals on. This means there are a grand total of 14 different versions on this re-release, including the promos, although only 11 have been "officially" released:

Official formats:

WACKT002 12" A1 - Koma And Bones Vocal Version (with Barney's new vocal) 8:11

B1 - Larry Tees Electroclash Mix (with Barney's new & old vocal) 5:30

B2 - Accapella And Parts (with Barney's old vocal) 6:09

WACKT002RE 12"

A1 - Outputs Nu-Rocktro Remix (with Barney's new vocal) 5:50

A2 - Arthur Baker's 2002 Version (with Barney's old vocal) 6:14

B1 - Asto Dazed Mix (with Barney's old vocal) 7:29

WACKT002CD Compact Disc (Edits)

1 - Koma And Bones Version (with Barney's new vocal) 3:45

2 - Arthur Baker 2002 Version (with Barney's new vocal) 3:09

3 - Electroclash Version (with Barney's new vocal) 3:40

4 - Outputs Nu-Rocktro Version (with Barney's new vocal) 3:41

5 - Asto Dazed Mix (with Barney's old vocal) 4:22

Promos:

WACKT002C/D 12" A1 - Asto Dazed Mix (with Barney's old vocal) 7:29 same as released version

B1 - Arthur Baker 2002 Version (with Barney's old vocal) 6:42

B2 - Arthur Baker 2002 Instrumental 5:47

WACKT002E/F 12" A1 - Outputs Nu-Rocktro Version (with Barney's old vocal) 5:50

B1 - Larry Tees Electroclash Mix (with Barney's new & old vocal) 5:30 same as released version

B2 - Accapella And Parts (with Barney's old vocal) 6:09 same as released version

Blimey, that's taken some sorting out!

As I say, the discography's looking good, and I hate to point out errors, but I'm sure you'd rather the information on there is correct. My new order list at http://www.morriso.btinternet.co.uk/NewOrderTrackList.html has everything timed and checked by myself, and is always a good place to double check mix and track info, as I've a nearly complete collection. it lists every different individual track I hva eby New Order, and the running times.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Thanks Andrew,

that will be very helpful, as you are aware, most of the errors you are mentionning were those on the New Order Discography website, I knew there were some errors there, since I corrected a lot of them, and many clock times are inaccurate, but well, I have to admit, this is a colossal job to do.

Double checking everything will be a very hard thing to do, so your help is very appreciated.

BTW, change your bookmark, acces the site via neworderonline.com, not nexpoint.net ;) this will give you some unexpected errors sometimes!!

So what you are saying on this one is that the UK and the US 7" are both the same? The US 7" has the album version on the A-Side, but the instrumental version at 5:09 on the b-side, is there a "Kiss of Death" of 5:09 minutes as well?

And you were talking about TPK edits or KOD edits on the acetate?

The True Faith CVD is listed in the video discography section, with the DVD singles, hence why it's not listed with True Faith, sorry ;)

Don't know if that's the good way to do it, but well, it's supposed to be a video disc, and dvd singles have audio tracks as well...

As for Fine Time, if you have a mp3, it would be useful.. I don't have it since I have the UK CDS.. but it's difficult to say they are all different, the US & Canadian edition too?

As for World In Motion, the No Alla Violenza is edited on the 12" and not on the CD (UK that is), and on the CD, the B-Side is edited, but not on the 12" right? (not the same 12" anyways, I know)

As for Crystal on Here To Stay, I have been told that was the "Alternative Mix", which was the winner of the Acid Planet competition? Are you sure it's the advanced promo mix? The advanced promo I have clocks Crystal at 7:22, so basically this would be another outtake?

As for Confusion, the only difference would be the Arthur Baker 2002 versions that are different from the promo and the released version.. as for the vocals, the question is, the "old" vocals, are those from the 1983 or 1990 Confusion%?! (are they different in 1990?) that is.. confusing :D

As for track times, it's difficult to know, sometimes CD track times contains the silence gaps, so it's never accurate...

But thanks, I'll see what I can do, and I'll start by taking a break from this  I have updated all but the questionnable points...

Another correction, there is indeed a 7" version of EGG.. found on the Procession 7".. now I have to ask, how the hell can anyone tell the 7" is Procession and the 12" EGG, that puzzles me.

The NO Discography website never stated that version of EGG to be different, but I noticed your site has a clock time for it, and I thank you for that, it's been corrected.

Honestly, is the whole thing should be labeled "EGG/Procession" as a double-A side, or is it really 2 "different" releases?

--

Forgive me on that one, just noticed that Procession is indeed the A side of the 7", error again at the NO Discography, corrected by the Factory discography website...

177 compilations and counting.

The number I gave in the first post was for all compilations (including collaborations), but the 177 is for New Order/Joy Division only...

And I didn't yet check AMG to find Joy Division compilation, that should find a few others.

So, 177 means, in 25 years (yes, 2003 will be the 25th year of Joy Division's creation in 1978) it's an average of 7 compilations per year.. :eek2:

Gosh, that's a lot of compilations, isn't it? :D

I've heard it's width and depth that count. And sampling rate. As for my collection, everyone needs a hobby, and it's either that or breaking into cars here in Pompey.

I never worked out which song was meant to be the A side on the 7". it doesn't actually say on the cover or vinyl. One side has "hard" scratched into the disc, the other "soft", so it's still open to debate. I always assumed that once the FBN 12" came out, that EGG was the A, but I guess it's much of a muchness, really.

The seven inch of EGG is simply clipped at the start, with a fade at the end.

I have two Perfect Kiss 7"s. The UK one (FAC 123) has the 4:48 Low-life version on the A-side. The B-side is an edited 'Kiss Of Death' which is 5:10 long. This 5:10 version is also to be found on the other 7" (the Factory Benelux 7FBN123), but called 'Perfect Dub'. The A-side of 7FBN123 is a 4:24 'Perfect Kiss', which is a slightly more edited Low-life version. I'd imagine that 'Perfect Kiss Instrumental' and 'Kiss Of Death' are exactly the same thing, just in different countries.

I've never come across these (mythical?) three-minute edits, but from the New Order Discography, it seems they were test pressings, or acetates, or something. I'm assuming if they exist, it's the 10" test pressing mentioned on the New Order Discography ('Perfect Kiss (Edit)' 3:51/'Kiss Of Death (Edit)' 3:01). No one I know has them. If they were test pressings, they're probably impossible to find, and in very dodgy condition by now. But yes, the UK seven inch is the Low-life version, don't know what's on the US one!

It's good to have that U.S. chart info, Nicolas. I believe it was Justin who was asking about that recently.

Full of mistakes of course, but still, very impressive..
