My question was prompted by Nicolas's report from a couple weeks ago that someone at Warner said there would be a U.S. release. The Canadian release of 511 seems pretty definite, and obviously it seems more commercial to release a more recent performance. But as we all know, these release decisions for NO material seem unfathomable.
The confirmation of the 3:16 DVD was never confirmed by any official source, and it does not show up on anyone's website as an upcoming release. Not a good sign since the proposed release date was within a few weeks.

I agree. But since I have two copies of the European version which I can't play and I don't particularly want to buy an all-region DVD player for just that, I was hoping it might be true.

I am sure there are many other NOOL'ers that share your hopes... me included. I would LOVE to have 3:16 on DVD in a region 1.

Well you could always did what I did. About a month ago I bought the Cyberhome CH-DVD 402 DVD player from Best Buy (American electronics retailer for the non-US crowd) for $52. While I had pledged to never again buy electronic equipment from non-major brands, I had to make an exception this time. Why? Because a little bit of research had revealed that the CyberHome DVD player had a hidden menu that lets you change the region code on the player! Go to the setup screen, hit a few buttons, up pops a new menu option to change the region code, and viola, 3 16 plays in my North American Region 1 home!
Meanwhile, my old DVD player, a $150+ Toshiba player that I had bought from Target less than 18 months before, became my Christmas present to my dad!
I'm not recommending everyone go out and do this, especially if you're already invested in a high end DVD player, but since the DVD cost me about $30 US from Amazon.uk, $52 isn't that much more to be able to play music DVDs from the UK. The Cyberhome is not progressive scan or anything special, but it seems to do everything my Toshiba, and in a couple cases, a little bit more. The on-screen menus aren't as pretty to work with, but that's a minor irratation in comparison to not being able to see Temptation from the Ukranian Home gig! I just wanted to share my experience for anyone who may not have known about this option available to them.
All in all, a happy ending for everybody in my family!
I was able to change my low end DVD player to make it multi-regional as well, but didn't order the 316 dvd, since it wasn't NTSC. But you're saying that just a change of the regional coding and nothing else and it'll work?

For those who own a NTSC DVD player with multi-region enabled the best thing to do is to order the Brazilian region 4 DVD. It's dirt cheap here (less than US$ 8.50). The website is only in Portuguese but I can help you to translate the words.

Just get the darn Japanese DVD...NTSC/ENGLISH!!!!!! and region 2/4. Good deal and the JN's always keep it stocked. It's only going for about $18.00 (US) these days as well!!
Usualy, stuff from Japan cost twice the price of everywhere else in the world!
Bought my Apex with special menu a long time ago, paid 300$ and it was the cheapest one then, but it played MP3, it was the first one to do that!!

Hell...3 16 is darn near in the bargin bins! They trying to git rid of it to make room for the 300 or so Britany Spears DVD's that come out each week.
