So what are the chords that hurt Barney's hand to play? They don't sound anything out of the ordinary. Besides, wouldn't Gillian or the new bloke be playing them anyway, so Barney could concentrate on singing.....

I've got the Republic song book, and they did seem a bit difficult for someone who can only really play barre chords to manage, especially when e'd, drunk and trying to sing at the same time. As you say though, he wouldn't have been playing them. Maybe Gillian's fingers weren't long enough ?

if they were too hard to play, then why did barney write them?:D

this is from olga.net the key is wrong when playing with the album but the structure sounds right.

Verse: Gm7-Am7-Gm7-Am7-Gm7-Dm7-Gm7-C7 x2

Pre-chorus: Gm7-Am7-Gm7-Em7-A7

Chorus: Dm7-Em7-Am7

Gm7 Am7 Dm7 C7 eadgbe eadgbe eadgbe eadgbe 353333 575555 x57565 x35353

the voicings I use on the chorus and pre-chorus are:

Dm7 Em7 Am7 A7 eadgbe eadgbe eadgbe eadgbe xx0211 022030 x02010 x02020

Does anyone know the bass lines for it? does anyone know a tab site for new order bass lines?

I have always played it with the capo on the 2nd fret (as Barn and Gillian do on the NewOrderStory video), using Em and Bm shapes for the most part - there is also an A in there, but I can't be bothered notating it (I find tabs and chord notation pretty tedious). The chorus is Bm - C#m - F# - F#m, but remember this is all up two tones coz the capo is on 2nd. My advice is to just put a capo on the second fret and it should come pretty easily.. CTB :bear:

yeah, a lazy bastard he is... to give him an excuse not to play live, or at least keep the show under an hour ..." and we can't play that one because the chords fookin' hurt my fingers... and we can't play that one because it hurts my throat... etc.."

Well, either straight minors or minor 7ths, nothing too difficult. Even a mug like me could play that! Perhaps Barney has RSI (or OOS or whatever else it's called these days) in the wrist.

Repetitive Strain Injury. Occupational Overuse Syndrome. What you get from too much typing on a computer keyboard or, evidently, playing too many minor seventh barre chords.

Do what I do. Listen to the song. Play it. Simple when you know how.
