I heard on the radio last night that NO were coming to Australia in early 2002 for the Big Day Out. Can anyone confirm this? If so will they be doing concerts in Sydney?
NO Coming Down Under

BDO rumours are just spurious at this stage, but seem plausible enough, given that NO management have indicated a possible Aus tour in Jan-Feb 2002 - around the same time as the travelling BDO festival.
I'm assuming the question about "NO down under" is a serios one and not a double-entendre, and the answer is I think the last time they were here was in 87 for the "Substance" tour

what station did you hear that one this morning? JJJ?, and yes the substance tour in '87 was their last visit
I heard it last night on Triple M Sydney. They played Crystal and announced afterwards that they were coming for the BDO. They seemed sure about it.
We can but hope!
If any Aussies hear anything further, please post it here!
I have slightly mixed feelings about them playing the BDO, if it indeed eventuates. I wonder whether they'd play the dance tent (this year the Chemicals and the Jaxx rocked it, but I was very disappointed in the accoustics and atmosphere for the likes of the Primals), or a main stage.. I have slightly cynical expectations for NO on a main stage-BDOs are always resoundingly a 'yoof' event and- god forbid-there are plenty of kiddies around who never heard of them.. Would they offer the respect they deserve?

A tour of mid-size venues would be ideal- packed with NewOrder-philes and with a more intimate atmosphere that they could rock the life out of..
I missed NO on their last Aus tour- I was a little too young for the likes of the Red Parrot in Perth, but I was lucky enough to see them twice in the UK.. And I'll be jetting around the country here if they make it- Ansett or not!
thats pretty much what im hoping for, apperance at BDO, with the closing set with a crowd of 25,000, then spin off gigs at mid sized venues, such as festival hall in melbourne
I agree, Mitch - it would be great. But Festival Hall is a shocking venue in the summer. I passed out from heat exhaustion at a Radiohead gig there once! A better venue would be The Palace (air conditioning!)
i actually don't mind festival hall that much, but they are stupid not to renovate it, it could be made soooo much better with very little cash.
