Since everyone is having their own, I'll have mine :D

In a desperate attempt to change the momentum and force people to vote for Close Range, I'll open the Turn My Way Apperciation Club thread :lol:

Seriously, this is the song that did it for me.. I downloaded the mp3, expected nothing, and I couldn't stop listening to it for 2 hours in a row.

Don't know, I like New Order's melancholic side.. hence while I like songs like Run, Leave Me Alone, All Day Long, This Time of Night, Special & Lonesome Tonight.

This is a musical mood they don't do enough IMHO, when I do my own personal compilation, it's always the melancholic songs that end up on that CD.

Now, the Corgan effect.. maybe this is why so many people dislike this song, but I expect nobody would have said the same if that song would have "Electronic" instead of "New Order".. IMHO, this is as good as what Bernard did with Neil Tennant..

And Hooky's bass is quite enjoyable there...!

Agreed with everything you said.

Plus, Billy's a good guy, he gets ripped on mercilessly and what did he do? Write 5+ albums of damn good music. You may hate his voice but there is no denying what the SPs did for music in the 90s. You can't deny the guy working with his idols either - he's said a number of times that NO/JD were among his favorites in high school, back in the 80s.

And on top of it all, he's really laid-back and cool to talk to. I've run into him in bars in Chicago several times and he's always good to talk guitars with over a beer or two.

it aint better than Close Range ;)

billy was ok considering he´s NOT a great singer. the song IS good. was my favourite at the beginning. then close range took the number 1 and crystal the number 2. so it´s number 3 for me.

I'm probably infamous now for my dislike of this song, but I will say this much.......if Billy Corgan hadn't sung on it, I would like it. I resent these "guest musicians" being drafted in to try and shift a few more units in the States - it's not as if he made much of a valid contribution to the song, and I'm convinced it was an attempt to cynically use his name to boost sales. Rant over ;)

I would like it much more without BC. For some reason, I don't like it nearly as much as I did at first.

I love Smashing Pumpkins - I have all their albuns - and I thought this would br THE track for me in Get Ready.

And you know what? It is the one I disliked most... it will always have my vote on Survivor ;)

TMW is quite a good song, I like it. But not as much as Close Range and certainly less than: Crystal, HTS & Primitive Notion.

Looks like your dastardly plan to skew the poll has yet to bear fruit webmaster ... ;)

It's a very good song, I'd thought I'd hate it at first, as I'm not a big fan of Smashing Pumpkins, but it ended up one of my favourites from Get Ready.

i really like 'turn my way'. only voted for it this time around because it's my least favourite of a really good list of songs. tough choice, i'm afraid. as stated above i, too, am a pumpkins fan and i think mr. corgan's contribution makes the song even better. and not just 'cause i like his band, mind you. something about his voice just *fits* with the song IMHO. :nod:

I've always been a huge fan of the song with one small exception: the limp guitar playing. It's really quite weak and lethargic, metaphorically speaking, it sounds like some old man slowly shuffling down South Beach in Miami, looking for a coffee shop, slow, weak, lethargic, with only a vague understanding of its musical destination. I love the lyrics, the vocal performances, the bass playing, the drums, but the guitars are just weak.

As for the Smashing Pumpkins angle, it doesn't bother me at all. I think all of us would consider ourselves blessed if we were in Billy's shoes and actually realized a life long dream, becoming a musical icon w/o sacrificing artistic integrity, and being able to play with your childhood favorite band. What could be more amazing than that? I didn't love the Pumpkins, but I did like them, even though Corgan's vocals could be irritating at times.

Turn My Way is great and the only song on the album to get anywhere near Vicious Streak which is absolute class. I really like the combination of BS and BC's voices, and of course those wonderful bass lines.

Semi-related to this thread... there was a review of a Billy Corgan gig in the Evening Standard yesterday...

A resonably favourable review - no NewOrder references but the comment that stayed with me was that at the end of the gig the audience left scratching their heads in bemusement! :lol:

I like it an all.

By no way in the Top 3 of the songs from GR, but nether the less it's still a great song. I do not really see any weak songs on GR, if I had to pick one I'd probably go fer VS, seriously. It doesnae bother me that they had Billy Corgan and Bobby Gillespie on their given tracks, it's a New Order record, which is good enough fer me :nod: As biased as I am with the Order, if they release shite, I'll come on here and slag the bastards. But until that time :beer:

One of my favourites on GR. I think Corgan's voice works well with Barney's. With Crystal & Vicious Streak in my top three on the album.

it's an alright song. i usually forget it exists! to me, it feels like a pumkins song...maybe cuz there weren't enough new order signature elements in it, but not bad. i've never been a big pumkins fan, but his voice is unique and not as irritating as others. *see pearl ham* :dead:

I used to like the SP's until I heard New Order ...and since then I haven't been able to take Billy & co. seriously. On "Machina" in particular, they ripped off the NO sound mercilessly.

So I had low expectations for this song, but it ended up being my favourite on the album. Although it's not because Billy sings it; I just think it's the best song on "Get Ready".

BUT when it comes to the live version on Retro (from Liverpool), eeek... Corgan sings like a dying sheep!!!!!!

Sure the lyrics are hokey, but it's New Order after all, so if you're trying to find the meaning of life in them, you're looking too hard! I love this song and it was the first song on Get Ready (other than Crystal, which I heard several times before buying the album) that really stuck with me. Frankly I'm surprised by how many people here dislike it.

I find it weird that B.C. only has a few lyrics into the song, and then Barney comes charging in. I have to say I feel really fortunate to have seen New Order play this live with Billy on guitar/vocals, since they only did a few dates in England and then the western U.S. (I saw them at Moby's Area One in Los Angeles, and also saw Moby w/ New Order, Gillian, Kim Gilbert, B.C. and John Frusciante playing New Dawn Fades later the same night). Seeing the song done live does boost its appeal IMO.
