I've absloutely no idea what this line really is supposed to say - somehow "pawn" seems a bit improbable. But then, knowing Barneys lyrics, they could be about anything couldn't they?

I always thought he sang "This BOARD set up by time..."

I thought we had this discussion a long time ago and that it was generally agreed that the correct lyrics are "This pawn set up by time."

That is, a pawn, in chess, set up, to be taken, by the opponent, Time.

What's not clear about that?
