at war with CD universe

i ordered my copy of retro through CD universe (the cheapest). they advertised it as a 4 CD box set with 'bonus tracks'. now, other sites that advertised retro with 'bonus CD' or 'bonus tracks' had the 5 CDs. when i got mine today it was, wouldn't you damn well know it, the 4 CD regular box set. i e-mailed CD universe and asked them which tracks, pray tell, they considered the 'bonus' ones on the good ol' 4-CD box set, since everyone else semed to consider the bonus tracks the extra nine tracks. the reply: 'the 4th CD, with unreleased live songs.'

is this not the largest pile of steaming mammoth manure ever dreamed up by the human brain? what shoddy advertising! of course, i told them that had i known that their idea of bonus tracks were actually part of the regular box-set, i would have ordered elsewhere.

i'm usually fairly complacent about things and i don't like to rock the boat, but oh no, daddy, not anymore. dr. david banner has begun the transformation!

...it's not the end of the world...i just needed to vent. in the words of kurt vonnegut, 'and so it goes.'

Return it, what else can you do!

I doubt all the copies are sold, so you should be ok.. I doubt many people other than Internet users are aware of this bonus disc...

fight the good fight! :)

yeh. i've taken issue with 'hmv' and have refused to shop there because of their exorbant prices. if i remember correctly a certain 'godspeed' album cost me $25 while anywhere else it would have been $19...grrr. and any new order album is mostly cheaper elsewheres...sry, needed to vent as well.

CD Universe. Aren't they the company whose network was hacked a couple of years ago? 1000's of customers account information were stolen including credit card numbers!

You're absolutely right! My credit card number has been stoled at this f***ing website. 300,000 credit card numbers have been stolen and 25,000 of them were distributed on a website after this retailer refused to pay a U$ 100,000.00 ransom.

..That blows major ass-chunks there AgentW. That's a blatent rip if you ask me. That's why I got mine from HMV.uk; pretty much the only place I really trusted would actually have the 5th (At the time). You want me to drag 'em outside and kick the ca-rap outta them?

BTW, nice to hear someone else quote Vonnegut!!!

i already opened it to find out what was in it, so i don't think i can return it (went ahead and listened to it too)! i did e-mail rhino and tell them how CD universe were advertising it. dunno, maybe they'll frown on the mis-representation of their product or something. or feel sorry for me and send me a bonus disc :D. anyway, mr. rasputin has offered to make a copy for me :thumb:. it's not the original, but hey, can't afford to be a completist at the moment and buy a whole new retro, and at least i can hear disc 5 now! cheers, jeff!

Of course it's opened.. why wouldn't you have opened it?

Just tell them to do a refund or find the limited edition and exchange it.. it's not legal to advertise something and send you something else!!

Come on.. bonus tracks are a bonus.. so meaning, not on original release...

I'd be so pissed for that ;)

Sounds a pretty open-and-shut case to me. You paid for one thing and got something else.

I had a different problem, got it from amazon uk, but it took the buggers so long to get round to sending it after release (still 'awaiting shipping' 3 days after release date and nearly a week after people ordering from hmv had it) that I canceled it and bought it from virgin in store instead. Then they sent the amazon one anyway and I had to send it back. Both had the bonus disk. Last time I bother pre-ordering anything.

Wow, glad to know. Good thing I don't use them. You gotta love the thing about the live tracks on Disk 4 being "unreleased" - it's kind of funny actually.

i fired off another e-mail making these points and asking them what they plan on doing about it. maybe if i keep bugging them, they'll give me what i ordered!

...i'm feeling more and more like cesar chavez every minute.
