Heard a great version of bizarre love triangle on XFM by a band called 'Frente' before xmas and have just tracked it down, (http://201.inhe.net/music/f/Frente--Bizarre Love Triangle.mp3), and was just wondering what over interesting cover versions you lot knew of...

Well, until recently, we had the most complete (and only) collection of New Order and Joy Division covers available to listen online, but unfortunately, due to server space (and also copyright issues which we raised all by ourselves), we had/decided to take them off.

But if you want suggestions, you might want to check older threads -- not so old -- there was one where people were asked what was their favorite cover version.

We should certainly put a complete list online at least, too.

Yeah, they are an Aussie band. Not a bad little cover is it. There is a dancer version of it which is really cool too.

Another DJ from OZ by the name of Exposed released a techno version of Blue Monday.

Interesting that both these covers are sung by females.

Ah well, i'm new to this forum so I guess I'll bore everyone with subjects you've already discussed from time to time - gonna take me a while to catch up!

I got a spanish female vocal cover of BLT which is ok, notable for the acapella version.

I have a cover of BLT by Stabbing Westward. It's a B-side to Tainted Love covered by Marilyn Manson. It's on the Not Another Teen Movie soundtrack album as well, along with Orgy's version of Blue Monday.

I realise the age of this thread, but I just thought you people might like to know, I have a complete (to my knowledge) list of New Order covers on my site. The direct link is:

www.geocities.com/mecha\_king\_ghidora/neworder\_covers.html

I also have the mp3s of most, if anyone's interested. Icon's cover of The Perfect Kiss is really good.

To be honest, I'm not kidding. I happen to like the originals just fine, and usually I do listen to them, but it is sometimes good to get another person's take on a song. That is, if you're open minded. I am in no way saying I prefer covers, I simply take an interest in New Order in a way that I enjoy listening to people pay their respects to different songs. Besides, I highly doubt anybody cares if you want to hear them or not. I posted this post to let people who aren't narrow minded and may want to see it know. If you don't like covers, then don't fuckin' go to the page, but don't bitch and cry about it on here. Any true New Order fan would understand that this isn't an attempt to out-do New Order themselves, but a simple way of showing respect. Now shut up, or comment properly.

I think I would be less simple minded by listening to everything before deciding if it's crap or not. If all you listen to is New Order, how could you possibly know that that is the only good band out there? Fact is, you don't. And they aren't. They may be one of the best, but closing yourself off to everything else is kind of obsessive and pathetic. Next...

Do you realy think it is fair for you to call me NARROW MINDED AND PATHETIC just because i love New Order so much,i didn't know that love was a terrible feeling to have. What do you think? i go walking around all day wearing ear plugs? I hear other music i just don't feel it. Why does it concern you so much that i only listen to new order? If you realy think that my mind needs other music, then what do you recommend? My neighbour is canadian i was just starting to like her please don't kill it for me..:)

What's the point in reccomending anything? Even if by chance you did secretly like it, you'd shoot it down to prove me wrong. And the fact that you woould judge Canada by a single person, to me, is narrow minded as well. If I "ruin" it for you, that's just sad. No, I don't assume you walk around with earplugs all day. But the majority of the music played on the radio/by most people these days is garbage. I'm not telling you how to live or what to do. I respect your choice to only listen to New Order, but I'm simply stating that opening your mind to other music may be a wise thing to do. I was simply annoyed that you'd shoot down the topic of the thread so easily, despite the fact that the other people in the thread were interested in it, not because you only like New Order. Honestly if this is your choice, you couldn't have picked a better band. Do you hate Joy Division too?

No, i do not hate Joy Division i have all there material.I even have a copy of electronics twisted tenderness, i think it is one of barneys best works .Barney to me is New Order. I said in your thread "you have to be kidding" your response was "no I'm not" i accepted that. When it comes to music i don't mind being called narrow minded or whatever, but when you start attacking me personally i do have a problem with that...Bin Laden one man, but still the whole world hates muslims? I would never hate my neighbour because of what one person from canada thinks, i was trying to push your buttons.I have no secrets, if you honestly think that there is another band out there that i would like let me know. I'll let you know what i think...

Alright, cool then. I wasn't meaning to attack you. Just though of it as odd. But that's ok. Reccomendations? Well, I expect you to hate them all, but here goes: Razed In Black. I don't know a single person who dislikes them. You probably will hehe But that's ok.

i volunteer at a campus radio station and found this one cover of love vilgilantes *can't spell* by some canadian band...radio something something. anyways, a really twangy country version of love viligantes. maybe what a drunk hank williams would have sounded like if he covered this song.....i sampled it and a guy came up to me and said "i hope they never play that on the air, they'd lose a lot of listeners"

I thought that wasn't a bad album - pretty much entirely contemprary(ish) US rock(ish) bands covering 80's Brit pop stuff (plus 99 Red balloons!). Only track on it I hate is that modern English one. Never heard that the first time round and don't like it now.

Really? I'm almost as much of a sucker for cover versions as I am for remixes. With both, even the bad ones are interesting in showing someone else's take on the song. And with covers one has double the chance of getting something decent - its hard to ruin a good song, but a good act can rescue a bad one.

I make an exception for Paul Young though.

(and if Michael Bolton ever covers LWTUA, please shoot me. No, scratch that, shoot Michael Bolton).

Good, a fellow cover fan. :) Paul Young is horrible I agree. But the worst killing of a song is Mr Badwrench's cover of Billy Idol's 'Rebel Yell'. It's horrible, like classic country. THAT guy should be shot. What the Hell was he thinking.. Know what would be interesting? A country cover of a New Order song.. I'd say a rap cover, but I guess you could turn Times Change into rap pretty easily.

Hmm, I haven't inadvertantly engaged the services of Rocket Mick, international hitman, have I? You never did say what your new job was...

As far as the lad Bolton is concerned, maybe shoot him anyway, to be on the safe side, just in case he's _thinking_ about covering LWTUA.

I always leaned towards Times Change to being hip hop. I actually like the song  Heh heh I could see Will Smith doing Times Change, wouldn't that be interesting?
