most well-produced JD/NO album?

for me, it's definitely Closer.

with Unknown Pleasures, the production is both a strength and a weakness. the polished, icy sound gives it such a cold feel somewhat like numbness, which works incredibly well on songs such as Disorder (my favorite from the album) and New Dawn Fades, but takes away the edge that i love so much in JD's live material. i have very mixed feelings about it, but Closer is masterfully produced by Mr. Hannett.

so in a sense, UP is over-produced, but it doesn't qualify for me as an absolutely over-produced album. but Technique and Republic do (sorry, Technique fans). the thing that keeps me from loving Technique as much as Low-Life is the incredibly polished sound; i just can't get as into it. the piano hooks and guitar lines are just too clean and pretty. i mean, i still love the album and think it's amazing, but i just can't enjoy it as much as Low-Life or even some parts of Power, Corruption & Lies.

I voted ironically.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Low-life. PCL wasn't really a complete album (at least to my American ears, what with Blue Monday slipping in at #5), and Low-life is arguably their best work, imho.

Have to go with Closer, a true classic from the point of producer... totally inovative for its time.

Closer is JD's best production - all stately and haunting.

Technique is NO's best production - the digital beats sound very clean and clear on that one.

Closer for JD. Unknown Pleasures' production is great in some ways--the simultaneous feeling of claustrophobia and space, the sound effects (except for the space twinkles on Insight) and the depth and darkness of it. But the drums are produced too light and oblique, their power doesn't come through. But the drum problem was remedied for Closer, mostly.

For New Order I like Power, Corruption and Lies best. After that the production starts sounding slicker and slicker--too slick.

Technique easily - right left phasing, sound quality... ablosutely fabulous! I love listening to Technique in my car with my great system. No NO album sounds more polished and perfect from beginning to end.

Technique - still gets played 3 or 4 times a week and i never skip a track
