The Hookster was interviewed in the arts liftout of the daily rag over here today. The stand out comments:
NewOrder are hoping to tour in Australia in early 2002! No word on whether it'll be part of the Big Day Out or a solo affair.
He reconfirmed that Here to Stay (the Chemicals collaboration) is expected to have a late 2001 release date.
Two excellent slices of news IMHO!
That's great news, Depth - which paper was it? Obviously Vic and WA have different papers, but I wouldn't mind trying to track it down. Anything else of interest in the article?

It was in the esteemed "West Australian", Candus. Friday edition, Arts/Entertainment lift-out.
Other memorable comments included his memories of touring Perth in 1987 (The Red Parrot, warm weather, the beach), his current renaissance of youthfulness (that would explain the hooded tops), how joyful they all are, how he likes nothing more as a musician, than playing with Barney's singing and guitar, and Steve's drumming. He also kind of alluded to it being a good thing for the band that Gill wasn't heavily involved this time out, which came across a bit laddish, but that's the Hookster.
The thing about reading these kind of interviews, is that you can discount the first half of the article as the journo gives the same old synopsis of the band- JD, Ian's death, the rebirth, the imagery, the early dance influences, BM, Arthur Baker, dance culture, Ibiza, Hague, Hacienda, collapse of Factory, the side projects, the mexican stand-off, yah-de-yah yah-de-yah... Most of us can probably regurgitate it ad nauseum. You trawl through them hoping for a nostalgic gem you haven't heard before, or for some breaking news..
Still, it's great to have this current surfeit of articles- better than no news at all (c.1993-1999)!

'Here to Stay'??? I thought that the Chem Bros collaboration was on 'Close Range'? Are they playing cheeky monkeys again with their track names?
No cheeky monkeys this time.
The Chems collaboration never made it to the album. I believe this was due to Tom & Ed's recording schedule- their 4th album is nearing completion now. I have my doubts that it will be ready for Christmas but I guess we'll soon see. Hangin' for it regardless..
Also Mitch and CandUS, I'll see if there's any way I can muster up a scan of the article. I got the impression it was a non-syndicated piece; the journo is a West regular who dotes over the Order. I doubt it made it to any other Aus papers- quite a coup for hokey Perth I guess...
Depthy - Like you, I found nothing on the West Australian website either. So in a strange twist of fate, you have the article with no easy access to scanning technology, and I have the access but no article. Shall we meet somewhere on the Nullabor? CTD

Sure Candus, why not indeed.
Having made the leisurely drive from Perth to Brisbane before, I know the picks of the truck stops. Actually, there's this oddball little village about half the way across the Nullabor, it's home to a bunch of inbred hicks and you'd be lucky to find much in the way of civilised culture there, but they tell me the beer's cold and the women are warm.. Can't remember the name of it for the life of me...

Heya Depthcharge, I'm in Perth but missed the article. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner but I'm pretty sure there's one at my work - if we meet there I could post the scanned article somewhere so we all can access it.... I work in West Perth...
