New Sound for the New Album

This done the rounds yet?

According to a recent interview at PlayLouder.com, Bernard claims that the "last album was very, very layered, so it'd be nice to do a more dense and empty sounding one this time." Not sure whether he was contradicting himself there but there you go.

He also mentions that the writing is going surprisingly well and the band hope to secure Steve Osborne once again to man the studio controls.

Expected release date still a vague "late 2003".

Late 2003 sounds like a stretch for a "new" album. If they aren't in the studio by now I can't imagine how it (the album) would see a New Year's celebration. Think more like spring/summer 2004. The artwork alone takes 6 months, then 6 more to reflect on it. Maybe a single before winter, say late October or early November, if we are lucky. They'd probably hold back just to accommodate Gillian and her incisive input. I'd welcome that myself. Her kicks or lack of was the only drawback to Get Ready.

I'd like to hear something really electronic - basically they've made a great deal in electronic music. I love their 'Such A Good Thing' and 'Here To Stay'. I believe they made it a nice guitar album last time, now they could make a cool big beat record with their fantastic touch. And, no doubt, a single at least this year is very very welcome.

Wasn't Movement "dense and empty" ?

I say 1 part 1981 Ep, 2 parts Technique, with a bash of Lowlife. Judging how good Barney feels about playing real instruments again, I would think it will be very guitar/bassish with very little etherial keyboardy goins on. I would like to see another moody electronic masterpiece. The guitar sound is OK, but it isn't exactly underdone. I liked Get Ready, but it wasn't special like their first 8 years.

Personally I'd like to see them go further down the "vicious streak" road...

I must be in the minority when it comes to Vicious Streak. I absolutely cannot stand that song, truly loathe it, and would hate for it to become the progenitor of their new sound.

For me, anything similar to Technique will be greatly appreciated, maybe a dash of P.C.L's variety and innovation, and the wintry sound of Low-Life, and the aggressive sound of Brotherhood (though the less similar to Angel Dust, and Way of Life the better).

frankly, i just want a new album in any shape or form. i'm sure whatever it sounds like, it'll be pretty damn good considering it is new order and all!

Any type of NO album other than a Movement type would be OK. Have recently been playing Movement and PCL back to back. Just an amazing jump forward to PCL.

Me think AgentWood is on the mark...but I still wouldn't mind a hint of punk-polka or something along those lines!!!

(Just kidding) As long as NO are happy with whatever they do then tha's good enough for me.

...and as long as stephen plays the same sixteenth note drum feel on the high-hat, for every song--all will be well.

but, yeah, i wonder what direction this new album could take. probably nothing earth-shattering-ly different, but that is completely alright because whatever they do it will *probably* be quite good. and hopefully a little dancey to.

I want to be pleasently surprised, like I was when I heard Get Ready.

Methinks a "back to basics" approach may be on the cards. Less extraneous flash, more simple groovy tunes.

It's always great to hear them, no matter what the overall "sound" is.
