At last, I managed to find some time to watch the movie.

I expected to be disappointed by it, but it was a pleasant surprise... I actually enjoyed this movie even though I don't really know most of the bands featured in the movie, I mean, I know the Mondays, but I don't know much of their music...

First hour is the birth of Factory and the story of Joy Division, then you don't see much of New Order, but the creation of Blue Monday, a True Faith poster (when Martin Hannett shoots Tony Wilson) and later a Fine Time poster when they are talking about the drugs at the Hacienda.

I must say I'm still laughing from the "She's Lost Control" recording scene.. poor Stephen :lol: but now I know how they made the drum sounds like that!

Overall a nice movie, I can say the 2nd part of the movie is not as good as the first part, but that might be because it focuses on the Happy Mondays..

Most scenes with John Simms are hilarious, as far as I know, he's doing Barney quite ok.. and the scene with Martin Hannett telling Hooky he's not able to play bass right is hilarious...

And after seeing this movie, I can say that if I didn't know Here To Stay was recorded before, "Here To Stay" would fit with Factory...

And btw, New Order might not be the main issue of this movie, but then indeed manage to be well represented.. they have the last song, and they have Blue Monday as the song for the DVD menu.. as well as other parts I wrote earlier.

i need to see that movie. but i wish i could've seen it in theatres, if any we're playing it. would have been nice.

Everytime I see this (about 3 by my count) I notice something new. For example, near the end when the drug dealers are the doorpeople at the Hac, they let Gillian in but not Stephen, who then ask stunned "Do you know who we are?" "We're paying you!" :lol: Classic

i saw it again at one of the rep theatres last week. i walked out all excited about new order and happy mondays again. it was great.

now, if only the two twits 5 seats from my left would have shut up earlier. it took me until the second half of the movie to tell them to shut the fuck up...screwing up my experience of the joy division section. :mad:

Didn't notice it was Steve & Gillian.. but now that I know, that's funny.

Is New Order truly the *only* band that managed to have succes after the death of their lead singer? (well.. Joy Division didn't survive when you look at it, but..)

Nirvana didn't, INXS? maybe in Australia? I doubt the Ramones, The Clash & others will do better without their singer.

The only band I know that manage to do this is Genesis, but Peter Gabriel was still alive.. so does it count?

Whoever picked the songs to be included on the soundtrack sure is no party-goer himself. The Happy Mondays selections are like their worst tracks. A suggested Alternate tracklisting might include: 1.Kuff Dam 2.Boom 3.Brain Dead 4.Clap Your Hands 5.Rave On 6.Kinky Afro 7.Holiday 8.24 Hour Party People ( M-People Remix ) Also a mention of the band Section 25 who were similar in style to Joy Division at the same time, same Factory label. So much for Commercialism even a movie about independence in the music industry gets portrayed as dull city. Which I am sure it wasn't.

I found the film very enjoyable, Steve Coogan has just the right take on Tony Wilson. How lucky we are in the North West of England to see him on Granada News each evening!

have to disagree with you about the mondays, at least about 'hallelujah (club mix)'. that song is brilliant, and they used it in a perfect place in the film. it epitomizes the era for me--a perfect ecstasy club song.

i love that movie so much. i bought it on DVD the day it came out. and having Blue Monday as the Main Menu song is absolutely ace.

AC/DC survived the death of Bon Scott (and had arguably more success afterwards), but other than that, maybe Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett didn't die, but he was a casualty of the drug expericance)

i must say I also went into this thinking "There's no way this'll live up to my expectations" but (unlike the "Masters of the Universe" movie) this indeed lived up to what I had hoped for.
