Things here in the states do not always happen in a timely manner. Retro, it’s bonus disc, and delivery of such has been a slip-shod affair at best. While you Brits enjoy instant gratification, us Yanks squander in squalor of unfulfilled desires. Reflecting on why that box set has been such a torn of controversy rather than a discovery of all things wonderful. Getting the bonus disc separate of the 4-disc set was a smooth hat trick and almost negated the necessity of such. Leave it to Jockey Slut (February 2003 issue) to remind us why we love New Order and bothered to travel the twenty-year journey in form of fan and participant. Although JS point out there isn’t really any surprises, they do confirm this body of work stands alone at a western front. In looking back over a shoulder, the landscape is littered with happy campers – travelers mind you, not tourists. The 80’s without New Order would have been bleak beyond thinkable. Maybe that’s why Retro is special after all.
