Glasgow Shenanigans!!

I have just been to my first NO gig tonight at the Barrowlands and for 1 hour and 15 minutes it was fantastic. Then out of the blue the band left the stage after playing Transmission and did not return! No encore. No Blue Monday. No explanation. A lot of people were very pissed off and did not know what happened. The roadies got barracked and objects were thrown at them by many. Fair enough in the past they have not played encores but they have not charged £25 a ticket in the past! Why no encore tonight for the first night in the tour? £25 for 1 hour and 15 minutes is unacceptable and many new order fans will not be back after this. SHENANIGANS

During what turned out to be the second last song in the set, Temptation, an incident occurred involving the Hook Meister which I did not see. I was right at the front centre against the barrier and after the song had finished Hooky comes over to Barney and from what I could make out from my limited lip reading skills says he wants to go off because of something I could'nt make out, to which Barney replies 'just play the next song' and Hooky then says 'Im not coming back on then', Barney says 'OK', they played Transmission and left. After a couple of minutes the house lights go up and all hell breaks loose. Some of the crowd went mental, not helped by the fact that some of the roadies were sneering at them. Much throwing of objects followed, threats of a stage invasion, threats of smashed trucks, etc, etc.

I know something happened to make the Order react in this way, up till that point everything was as good as last night. Same songs in a slightly different order, excellent sound, excellent atmosphere, excellent performance then some toss pot ruined what should have been the climax of two great nights, maybe somebody can cast some light on what went on to cause this. At least one good thing came out of it, I did'nt have to endure 'Rotten Shag'. How lucky is Muffy Boy, two nights at the Barras and not a 'Rotten Shag' in sight!

from where i was i thought it was bernie that was getting pissed off with the sound and that it was peter hook that persuaded him to stay on and do transmission before they all went off. where i was standing the sound was pretty dire for crystal though it seemed to be fine by the end.

No, Hooky definately said he was'nt coming back out.

I've waited 18 years to see them and 2nite was the 1st time...saw Electronic @ the Barrowlands, and I thought everything was going gr8 2nite. I thought the audience were really digging it, and I thought the band were too! Saw there seemed to be a problem with Hooky and some guy, never thought there wouldn't be an encore because of an arse in the audience! Security could've removed him..it was a kick in my balls not hear Blue Monday live. But hey! I'm still a fan, my mate wouldn't go back, but I would.....thinking of going to Paris to hear Blue Monday! DOH! Was it an artistic statement? To not play BM made it one! I stay a couple of miles from the Barrowlands, awww, that poor lassie from Japan....:-(...

I was right at the front, right in the centre and saw no argument between our heroes, i'm convinced something was thrown or maybe hooky was spat on or something. I don't believe they would just piss off because they had a tiff, they seemed to be enjoying themselves fine to me, the sound was great and the atmosphere was electric.

Anyway, it's not the end of the world for Christ sake! So the show finished early, big fuckin' deal! There are people a lot worse off than some sod who's whinging about New Order not playing an encore, catch my drift!!

It was worth every penny that gig! I've no regrets about going and would go again...it was superb.

Being the sad git that I am I went to both Glasgow gigs. The difference onstage (particularly Barney) was huge. On Sunday, it was all jovial banter and the atmosphere on stage was reflected in the audience as the place was bouncing. On Monday though.............. Barney seemed incredibly pissed off about something. May have been the sound which was a bit off the first couple of numbers but the fact is there was no banter at all. Knew something was up when the next song was announced as "Touched By The Hand of the Promoter". Mind you, the versions of Bizarre Love Triangle (especially), True Faith and Temptation were fantastic and then after Transmission they just fucked off and left the stage. No encore, no Blue Monday. Zip. 5 mins later the hall lights came on, leaving me to think, "this is Glasgow there's gonna be a riot"! Loads of stuff got chucked at the stage and a lot of pissed off people. May have been some folk spitting/chucking stuff from the crowd but in any case, no excuse to shaft an audience like that. All they had to do was come back on and play Blue Monday and most folk would have been happy. Still 2 songs less than Manchester but acceptable. Quite embarrassing to explain it to the New Order 'virgins' I was with who won't be back! I suppose that's punk rock for you eh?

Better be an improvement on Thursday when er, I’m going again. (well I’m in London so…..)

I was right down the front in Glasgow and I definitely reckon it was Bernies decision to stop the show short... After Everythings' Gone Green, he called Hooky over and told him something and that the next song was going to be the last.

Hooky shook his head and gestured something to one of the roadies sitting on the edge of the stage that he wasn't happy...

At the end of the song hooky seemed to drop his bass in disgust as they walked off...

Bernie was far more subdued all night and Hooky looked like he was totally up for it.

Such a shame.... the best band in the world, the gig was superb and would probably have been one of the top 3 of my all time favourites if it hadn't ended with such an anticlimax...

I was at both Sunday and Monday Glasgow gigs and Monday nights was actually the better, despite the endup. On Sunday, Barney and Hooky were a very chipper double act. Cheeriest they've ever been. Last night there was a different atmosphere. No banter between the two of them at all. Hooky looked a bit bored, even sat down during a couple of songs. On Sunday he was prancing and posing like a young'un. And Barney left his comedy dance routine at home last night too. At one point Hooky called someone in the audience a "fat poof" - so maybe he WAS getting some abuse. I was down the front and it seemed to me like an energetic and very good natured crowd. It wasn't really possible to work out what Hooky and Barney were discussing before they walked off. Who cares? New Order were tighter and sounded better last night than Sunday. Much more atmosphere. The only difference is maybe Sunday was louder. But no encore, it probably saved us from Rock the bloody Shack. We got off lightly. It was a cracking gig. And a wee bit of controversy! What more do you want?

I'm glad they've done a song like Rock The Shack so they can exorcise the demons of a Primal Scream collaboration.

Are you talking about the World in Motion site? Can't see anything about the gig. Thought the crowd (and band) were more up on the Sunday although last night I thought they actually played better. Could still do with getting the sound mix right though.

I hope then that Barney's taking the happy pills tomorrow night, cuz I would like to lose it to RTS. What a grower that song is, and dont even care if B.Gillespie comes on stage.

I dunno; no band should have to put up with that. I know in the heyday of punk it was expected and I guess it helped to wind up the bands. I remember seeing The Smiths in Bradford and they walked off half way and said they would not come back on unless the spitting stopped. If NO wanted to stop it's up to them; not quite sure how it works on a tour like this but bands tend to be contracted to play for so long and once that time is up then everything else is a bonus. Obviously a pity for people who were enjoying it but maybe not playing Blue Monday will help them shake the past off!

Yeah, was talking about WIM, but I don't think the reasons for them not coming back on are gonna get aired. Trust me, it was nothing even the slightest bit interesting.

Hmmm... so the reason for you keeping this secret is...? I mean, as fans we ARE interested.

Fair enough, but I take it the problem wasn't an internal one but more to do with individuals in the audience? Personally, I think the band should have been brave enough to have offered some sort of explanation on stage.

Obviously it won't stop me going to more gigs but it's unlikely to have charmed any potential new fans.

Jarvo please tell me that on your tour you have experienced an ear blow-out situation... circa the 80's. At The Apollo I had to move closer to the speakers just to hear them.

So what's been the best gig so far?

well boy, i for one was well pissed off! i took my mate to his first NO gig and i had been raving about the night before. the encore of blue monday was probably the best i had ever heard them play it live (the 316 version was shite) so you can understand i was a bit miffed at them not playing. it was a fucking expensive couple of nights but the sunday night vibe was amazing. monday was like a wake! the lads were at their best-no arguement. an encore would have been nice. could be the last time i see them. the memory of them is a bit tainted now. ...........feckers. and hooky had on the same Moby crew t-shirt two nights on the trot!
