Is it true what I read on pitchforkmedia.com that Cries and Whispers is always mislabeled as Mesh? Or is there another song that I have never heard?
Mesh Vs. Cries & Whispers

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere (probably here !) that Stephen Morris stated that the two titles were transposed on the sleeve or the label of the Everything's Gone Green 12 inch.
I always get them muddled up - I just know that I like them both, so it'll always remain an unsolved mystery to me :) (Well, assuming someone can put my mind at rest once and for all, that is !)

hi neworder'ers
[files]
heres the song that is constantly getting confused with 'cries and whispers'.. (there have been huge debates about which was which)..
but its not...its called 'mesh'..
for some reason, it got mislabelled, and even on 'substance' it was wrong..
its hard to find this on cd sometimes, though it is on cd-single for 'everythings gone green', and on the canadian '1981-fep31-1982' also..
it has not appeared on 'retro', 'international', or 'substance'......
[review]
this is a great song, if you've never heard it before, and like the early new order sound, you should like this also..
great lyrics, a great beat, good guitar work all 'mesh' together quite well i think..
i've moved the reference up higher, so you can check out the ACTUAL releases for it......(NOTE: many discographies haven't corrected their information yet)...
this song information is confirmed by the information on the official new order 'retro' site..when they are talking about 'cries and whispers'..
- Cries & Whispers Original Version 3:25
Steve : Cries and Whispers is a great revelation because everyone thinks it's called Mesh. But it isn't. It was mislabelled in 1987 and nobody ever noticed.

Apparently (according to Steve in the Retro booklet) Mesh on Substance is Cries & Whispers...

So until Retro, the only release that was correct was the Canadian 1981-1982 EP. It seems odd that Substance, the Everything's Gone Green 12" and the Everything's Gone Green CD single-all released at different times-were incorrect. What a mess.
God, this thread has *SO* been overdone. Neither song is that great anyway. I wouldn't be bothered to never hear them (or about them) ever again.
I guess this thread happened before I got on this board. Don't blow a fuse, I was just wondering. Thanks to you people who helped clear things up :)

After 14 years listening to Mesh on Subtance, it's hard to call it Cries & Whispers now !

Man, you've said it all!...
Well after 20 years of bloody knowing that it was called Cries & Whispers I'm glad that I can now finally stop telling people that !
