My cousin is gonna give me a listen to it soon. I popped in the old Staring at The Sea and Galore. Is it just me, or is Galore dragged down by the remixes? Staring..is just the singles as they originally appeared. I wonder if NO have ever considered doing a "original version only" cd of early singles, not like Substance/Best Of.

Followed by Substance 1987-1995: The 7-inch and radio edits. Not one flabby John Robie or Paul van Dyk remix in sight. But no, you can't get hold of it, so there.

Why so many remixes of classic NO tracks? Do out-of-work dj's really have nothing better to do? Very rarely have i heard a NO remix worthy of the original.

I stand well and truly corrected MikeSonic.;)Listed on his 92-98 remix compilation cd2,track 2 is Spooky (out of Order mix).The mix is a bit weak which is why I forgot it. I much prefer his recent stuff,especially with Brian Transeau (bt).

paul had his moments 92 to 94, but when i stopped playing trance stuff i lost my interest in him.... also he wasn´t very nice and friendly when we were booked on the same gig (me as support)

I'm not big into the remixes myself, but Confusion on Subs (while not as good as the original single) is pretty good, so let me amend my earlier comment about "not hearing any good remixes".

chris: i played some doggy cheesy trancy records, or better i was suposed to warm up the people and make them hot for paul. but he was pissed and wantet to start, played a dat for half an hour, dropped some records for another 30 min and then he left !!!!!!!!!!! so in the end paul made a support act for me :D

And another...."Spooky (Out Of Order Mix)"...as Nicolas so kindly reminded me earlier when I mistook him for Armand van Helden (ha!).

I thought old peacock hair had gone bald during the creation of 'The Forest' back when The Cure consisted of Robert Smithy and copious amounts of gangly freak dropouts looking like extras from The Thriller video of 1983 directed by John Carpenter and his ambivalent sausages.

Look, the single best 'The Cure' track has to be the 12" of Just Like Heaven, followed by the entire album in the late 80's (89?) that had fucking loads of good tracks on it. Ha! just thought of it... Disintegration. Did they call that album after Smith's hairline?

Once more, I agree with you, Hunstsy. I'm not into The Cure but some songs on "Disentegration" really do it. Sorry, folks, but to me, Cure music ages very bad...

Actually "Caterpillar" was ten times worse, then the album that followed that - "The Top" - was simply wrrrrrrretched! But yes! a lot of "Kiss Me.." was fine (esp Just Like Heaven), as was "Head On The Door", and, yes, their final goodie: "Disintegration". Fat Bob promised to split the band up after that. So why didn't he instead of degenerating into self-parody?? By the way, stuff the Cure for a mo, THE BANSHEES RULE!! Let's have some SIOUX thrown into this pot just to make things even more confusing dammit.

Now, As we oldies yet again have begun to focus on music, thanks to New Order. An interesting question would be:

Are there any good contemporary music around at the moment, beside N.O. and perhaps Röyksopp?

Speculations: Will music ever be as good as Joy Division, Wire and Siouxsie in the future?

And will Tony Wilson restart Factory next year?

Btw. some will never be outdated, and maybe New Order will continue forever like Leonard Cohen.

Thanks Frode, How right you are: My two favourite acts of the whole of the eighties were New Order and Siouxsie & The Banshees, so it kind of figures. ( Somehow, The Cure came into the equation when "Pornography" was released, though I'd previously only heard "A Forest" as it was their biggest UK hit at the time.) Mind you, try listening to any Siouxsie/Creatures LP even now and be surprised to find that their music hasn't dated in the slightest: it's ageless/timeless - a sign of true class and individuality. How manay bands sound like the Banshees today? Precisely NONE. They were in a league of their own, truly. You can't even say that about New Order/ Joy Division simply because of the sheer number of bands that they inspired who have, in one way or another, tried to copy their sound: eg: Pet Shop Boys, The Beloved, The Wake, Disco Inferno, Section 25, The Field Mice, ooooh, the list is endless...!!

But then, even New Order songs can date: Confusion/Shellshock in particular, simply because of the drum/rhythm sounds that were in vogue at the time....

By the way, did you like any of the later (post-regrouping 1987-1991) Wire stuff, when they became increasingly more electronic and, of course, New Order-sounding.?? If not, then check out Wire's 1987 single: "Ahead" from their "Ideal Copy" LP - It is a blatant steal of "Temptation". Believe it!!

the closest thing to an originals compilation of new orders early singels exists the name fails me as i type ( i dont think it had one) containing originals of temptation,everythings gone green, hurt,procession,mesh(a completly different song to one on substance) i have a copy on vinyl and its on factory.All versions are completly different to the ones found on Substance. I think it was a US release only and havnt seen it on cd.

You'll find that "the completely different song on Substance" is actually "Cries and Whispers", and not "Mesh".
The track listing on the cover is a mistake. Yeah, Factory records eh? Can't even get the titles right!!

last year while in Australia there was a competion on the national radio station triple j to get the cure to cover your favourite song out of all the entrys the cure chose LOVE WILL TEAR US APART thats all i have to say

And a rather good job they made of it too....
