Highpoints an Lowpoints on GR

Since I have nothing better to do (um, yes I do, I just need a silly excuse to do something else), I thought I'd list the best and the worst moments on GR (All times are approximate!)

Crystal 0:41 and 0:45 into Crystal. When the drums and guitars kick in. That's good. 0:57 Barney sings "We're like Crystal". Nice. 1:56 Fan-tas-tic bassline. 30 seconds of joy. 3:04 Keep it coming-whisper. 4:30 Now the good part starts... 5:15 Keep it coming-whispers AND beautiful Hooky bassline. Can it get any better? Awww Conclusion: Crystal is a fantastic song. Sometimes skip it, because I don't want to listen to it too much

60 miles an hour 2:45 This part is quite nice. And the following bit too. Conclusion: This song is too Brutal-like for my liking. It's gotten a bit better since first time I heard it though.

Turn My Way 0:33 Billy's voice is a bit too weak. The music sounds promising though 0:48 Ah, Barney, that's better! And the bass... Really good one. 1:20 No, no. This chorus doesn't sound too good. "Don't want to own a key.. Don't want to wash my car!??" 1:37 Phew, the chorus is over. 1:53 It sounds quite nice with Billy in the background actually 4:11 Getting quite used to that chorus now. It's alright. Conclusion: Turn my way is a good New Order song, although not my favourite. Skip it sometimes because I've listened to it too many times

Vicious Streak 0:08 Ah, this sounds good. A bit of change from those guitars! 1:23 The lyrics were quite good up till this point. I don't like the bit "object of desire". It sounds like object-s and it annoys me for some reason 1:28 No, no. Don't like this chorus. It feels a bit awkward. 3:15 and forward.. good instrumental part. 4:00 This is the best bit. It's like one of those last verses that really makes the song great(eg Perfect Kiss, 1963, Dream Attack) 4:13 ... but I don't like the way he sings "su-u-un" Come on! Conclusion: I like the verses, and the instrumental parts are great. I'd skip it sometimes

Primitive Notion 0:29 Nice 1:22 "You can drink this magic potion"?? Hello?? 1:26 Really Lame Chorus 2:11 and 3:07 and 3:22
Conclusion: I hold Barney responsible for making a good song into a bad one.

Slow Jam 1:08 "I got thirsty for a beer". Heh. Are we getting lazy with the lyrics Barney? 2:16 "Even though it's monochrome, it tells me what I should do" what does he mean?? 4:23 I actually like this part. Yes Conclusion: I quite like the verses and the chorus. Bernard's got to be kidding us with these lyrics though! It's so typical of him, writing shite lyrics on purpose. Remeber Every Second Counts, anyone?

Rock the Shack 0:15 good 0:22 First verse is good... 0:52 Uhm. The music is quite good though 1:05 Rock the shaaaack.. Heh. Everyone's favourite it seems ;) "Yeah that's the way it is" 1:35 I like him better in Primal Scream Conclusion: Believe it or not - I'm starting to like this song! Why, I don't know. :) It's sounds like they had fun.

Someone Like You 0:01 How can anyone *not* like this song? 0:28 Oh, just wonderful 1:15 Even better. 1:30 Better Still 2:06 "We're haaaaving the time of our li-i-ives" *brrr* Why oh WHY, was this included. It's awful. 2:19 Lovely lovely lovely 2:37 "-yeah ooooh oooh oooooh oooh" 2:35 Here we go again 4:32 Great great great Conclusion: More ooh-ooh's make a better song I *never* skip this song.

Close Range Conclusion:

Run Wild Conclusion: Quite nice. Not the best song they've written. But allright.

I violently disagree about Close Range.

I'm close to tears.

I think the line 'The grass is 10 ft high'on Close Range is the high point of the album,I really do.

Well there's 2 people on that one then. Incidentally, these lyrics were excellent live.

And where can I get the "Advanced Promo Version 4:39" - It could be even better.

I think the chorus is similar in a way to Round&Round..sort of Euphoric...

I do rate the song highly..one problem with it is that the Chorus is so much better than the verse

I have to agree... the verses are not a scratch on the chorus. Which is strange, as NO verses are usually better or as good as the choruses.

Would have been one of NO best ever songs if it wasn't for the average (Electronic-esque) verses.

Huntsy, you know how much it hurts me to disagree with you, but I think all the lyrics on Close to Deranged are excellent.

Pizza... you get me drift wrong... I dearly love Closet Ranger (and I've taken note that it has become a strong and important part of your life). I really think ALL of CR' lyrics are something that a god has produced in his or her bath, however, was pointing at the fact that the verse melody isn't quite as beautiful as the chorus melody... which is quite sensational.

A little off-balance of outrageously good chorus and only average verse melody line.

Remember, I'm not a musician, Huntsy, but is the melody for the last chorus the same as for the earlier ones?

God yes.

The verse melody (i.e. the tune you might sing in your head or whistle to) stays the same as does the chorus. The only change in the song comes in with the middle 8 or bridge which goes 'It seems like only yesterday etc. etc.'

Well, Huntsy, it's embarrassing to display my complete and total ignorance about all musical terms and concepts; "middle 8" certainly means nothing to me but if that's what it is I'd just say again it's the climax of the album for me.

Maria I agree with you 100%, I love the starting bars of "Someone like you" which I think are slightly reminiscent of the beginning of Twisted Tenderness (the song, not the album).

For me the high point of the CD is Gillian's chorus on this song. I simply love them.

Maria, you have just taken Fandom to a new, yet not necessarily higher level. How long did that lot take??

Only about an hour or two. Seriously, I can't remember. All I know is that it was not more than three hours and that it took longer than 50:56 min. :)
