According to Imdb.com (about Kathryn Bigelow),

Trivia Directed the music video for the New Order song, "Touched by the Hand of God", which starred Bill Paxton

Where in the video does this happen??

Guys stands in front of car/jumps on bonnet/snogs girl.

That'll be BP.

A great vid somewhat spoilt by the insertion of clips from the film. IMHO.

Cheers

Steve Morris also says in the "3 16" interview that the guy on the "rape" scene is Bill Paxton. "Have you seen 'Twister' and 'Apollo 13'? We've lauched a lot of people's careers".

i always thought the "movie" inserts were a very wicked satire of how women were portrayed in 80s MTV vids... i never saw this video on MTV in the United States, not even on 120 minutes, i always assumed that the video was too controversal...?

Well, no, it's movie clips from Salvation....

Which is funny if you check, Viggo Mortensen (aka Aragon in the Lord of the Rings) plays in the movie, which means, there are 2 connections to New Order!

Never realised that was Bill Paxton in the car scene in the video (observation not exactly a strong point!) but can someone tell me if it's him that appears briefly right at the end of the video just when the song is finished, the band are smashing their instruments up & he walks on & takes a bow? I remember trying to convince friends 10/12 years ago that it was. If it's not him at the end, but he's actually in the video BEFORE that (but I never recognised him)......... now that's "Spooky". Had my "Substance 1989" video on while typing & saw him in the car scene. Took over a decade to realise who the actor was but better late that never, eh??

To add to above post:

As I said, watching the video while typing & now see the band were not smashing things up, just kicking stuff around the stage. Bear with me, it's been a while since I saw it.....

Nope, the guy who walks on the stage at the end of the video is Rob Gretton.

Thanks Ricardo. A 12 year old debate finally solved. Now I've got to go tell my friends they were right. And considering they're not really New Order fans (no-one's perfect!) & probably wouldn't recognise the song much less the video, this could make for an interesting conversation!

There are no clips from Salvation! in the Touched by the Hand of God video.

I've never seen Salvation, but since TBTHOG is a soundtrack song, I assumed that was Salvation.

So you're telling me this footage is actually part of the video?

Never stop learning...

I have seen Salvation!

The footage featuring Paxton in the TbtHoG video is unrelated and probably had a bigger budget than the entire movie.

which reminds me - used to have a late night program on itv called night something or other that reviewed videos & they had round & round on it & one of the reviewers said "i dont think you should be allowed to have girls in your video unless you have girls in your band" & he was refering to new order not having girls in the band! & nobody corrected him! & nobody pointed out what a ridiculous comment it was either. they also slated the here comes your man (or this monkeys gone to heaven) video on the same program because joey santiago put his thums up in it

the film footage of Touched By The Hand Of God video belongs to a Kathryn Bigelow film actually (Near Dark, 1987)... I searched for her films on the IMDB when I found out that Pill Paxton did not appear on Salvation...

Are you sure? I've seen New Dark (vampire movie), even though I see that Bill Paxton is in it, it doesn't fit AT ALL the TBTHOG video since it's done in the DESERT the whole movie.

well, not really... I just suposed it as the information seemed to fit...

then the thing is stranger, as that footage seems to be took from a film that never has existed...

sorry

With a title like Salvation! Have You Said Your Prayers Today?.. I was expecting it to be from Salvation...

But well.. footage for the movie, but was probably why Bill Paxton got to be in the next Bigelow movie.

I just watched her latest this week-end, the weight of water.. not the best out there, but it was worth it just to see Elizabeth Hurley

Talking of which (having seen Salvation recently), is it me or are some of the tracks different from the Salvation soundtrack?

Obviously, Touched By The Hand Of God is from Salvation, but the video doesn't feature any of it's footage!

Crap film, but decent songs (IMHO).

BTW, this site http://www.tribute.ca/newsletter/29/starchat_03.html mentions the video:

"B.L. Your violent streak continues… B.P. Yeah (laughing), it must be growing up in Texas. It reminds me that I just had the weirdest thing happen to me this morning. I was doing another interview and this girl comes up and asks me to sign something. She asked me if I remembered being in a music video for New Order, which was directed in London years ago by Kathryn Bigelow. For the life of me, I could not remember it. I knew I was in this video but the name of the song didn’t come to me. Do you know what the name of the song ended up being?

B.L. No. B.P. This is so freaky, Touched By the Hand of God! Yikes — because, of course, in Frailty the murders that are being investigated are called The God’s Hands killings. It just keeps going in circles I guess. "

l8rs,

Nick ;)
