When i first met some NOOL's for the first time in a pub in LONDON no one knew it was me!Even though i had told them what i would be wearing and my description THEY still did not suss me out.I walked upto GRIGORI and SHUGZV,with TIMBO or BENNY as we now call him, just sitting nearby and introduced myself as "And you do KNOW who i am?"SHUGZV said yes then completely ignored me for about 20 mins whilst i sat down with my mate SHACK in the corner! It was only when i gave SHUGZV two rare POLISH 7 inch records by the ORDER that the penny dropped and everyone then became ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY.It was the drink that did it!What are your recollections of the FIRST time you met a fellow NOOLer and what was your impression.Do they look or sound like you thought they would?Spill the beans...this could be fun. Most i met thought i was shy and reserved! Same night rockteer, walked into same boozer, walked up to these 3 guys, asked if they were Jonny Giles , they all panicked at this point and pointed me towards some geezer in a red jumper (turns out they were the mackems). Had a chat with JG then in a whirl of social introductions met Shug, Baldrick, Muffy, Jeff the Chef (before the ingerbrau pils had effected him) Timbo & Karen, Al et al.
Yes i remember that this was the FIRST time i met you and JOHNNY,who turned out to be my HERO.What a CRAZY guy he is.A mobile phone in each hand ...he can text in 7 different languages!
Who the hell is he chatting with though!![]()
Where does one begin?
By the way, well done Baldy.....a great idea for a thread
The first Onliner I had the (mis)fortune;) to meet up with was Liv, she came all the way from Derby to pick me up for a weekend in London for my Birthday. Everyone on here knows how mad she was with her posts on here, so to say I was nervous was an understatement
She got here with her pal Annie, and both of them were exactly as I expected.....Fucking LOUD, if you think Rocket's loud, you want to meet Liv! Brilliant craic we had driving down to London, I seem to recall that I drank several cans of Lager just to be as loud as them. This was for my 27th birthday and we also met up with Timbo down there, for some reason (mainly his funny posts) I thought Tim would be just as loud as us, but he was quite quiet, or you could say calmer than the rest of us, but once he had a beer or two and got to know us he came out of his shell a wee bit......mind you, the jessie still buggered off home early that night.
Next up it was the night out in Manchester, where, I had the misfortune of meeting with several of the backbone of this forum. But, I was gonna meet my nemesis Marty Gray, you see at that point in time, the site was fuelled by absolute bollocks from Marty....with a wee bit of help from Moi, it's safe to say, that the forum has never been the same since.....SORRY
I really don't know what I was expecting of him, but Liv told me he was an Asian Lad with Orange hair, I must say that it did shock me, I just pictured some Football hooligan
Myself and Liv went out on the Friday, where we were to meet up with KezBah amd Muffy, Kezzie was a geordie lass, but we all knew that from her posts on the site, great sense of humour, but I think I was a bit too loud / drunk to speak to her that night. Muffster we all knew was famed for his womanising, and we knew he was tall, he's fuckin massive, about 6ft 5 I think, Muffster I expected to be quiet and composed, which is exactly what he was, but he too had a wicked sense of humour, which was to come to play in the Indian restaurant when the rest decided to wind me up and tell me I was ***lish, I was pissed as a fart and told them all to fuck off, that I was Scottish and proud
Guess who got the piss ripped out of him the next day! This is when we met up with more of the locals.
In the next episode : Hank Wiseass, Marty Gray, Al Jarvis, Johnny Giles.

Well i have met BUDVAR at the MOVE CONCERT and what a great guy he is!
Some day we will ALL meet i hope.:D
I hope too....if it's in a NO concert much better...I haven't seen them live.
Effectively, Budvar is a great guy. I usually talk with him in the spanish forum
Well i turned up at the Chandos the day before the gig to meet some Onliners with one of my mates - to be honest i wasnt really knowing what to expect hence i bought along a mate in case it was crap! all i can say is i outstayed my mate at Chandos so you guys must have been alright ![]()
First impressions, Mick - didnt even think you were anything to do with the onliners to be honest, just saw this bald bloke with a red face in the corner and thought he must be the resident piss head
you alse were rather timid and shy which is now most bizzare to think back on!
Was introduced to Shug who i knew i'd get on straight away with as he seemed almost as cool and sorted as me
Timbo and his missus were also dead friendly and was quite happy to waffle on about obscure neworder facts with me till the cows came home which i thought was seventh heaven especially after a few bevvies :D
Grigori was safe as houses but quite quiet if i recall but then again did fall down the stairs! ![]()
Hibster was there and i seem to recall talking about Orange as he used to work for them so apologies if i i ranted on mate ;) JGiles again top geezer and well friendly and always up for an obscure neworder chat!! :D
Liv, Kez, Jarvo turned up later, i remember thinking Jarvo was a bit scary and hoped he liked me or i'd be leaving in a body bag!
after all that he's sound as a pound and totally down to earth, the Liv and Annie were just crazy and just how i'd imagined them after their loopy posts! still funny as fuck and we had a total laugh with in jokes and piss taking all night! Kez was really one of the lads and knocked em back with the best of us, she's also got a lush accent and i kept wanting her to talk so i could hear it more! - u just dont get them accents down sarf :(
Im sure i met more people that day/night and at the gig but my memory fails me!
As for the people i met at Move well thats another story for another day!!! :D
Originally posted by Al Jarvis Don, not once did you mention getting 'jiggy' with any NOOL'ers! ;)
Its all good Al, that was superfluous information to the story being told :)
Maybe i've forgotton the name and the address of everyone i've ever known its nothing i regret! :p
DON....if i recall i was rather LOUD after a few pints.TIMID....well that's cos when i saw you i thought you had a bit part in GRANGE HILL and i had stumbled into a scene from the show!:DRED FACE...cheeky basket...i was suntanned and rather cool in my RED DOC's and GAYLORD DENIM's.(copyright HANK WISEASS)JARVO was rather generous with his gift of the BADGE.I thought he would fit in well at the BLOB SHOP so no problems there with him.Very handy i would think which is helpful in the shady places i used to frequent.Timbo and his missus are friendly and i did ask him several questions which he answered correctly
As for HIBSTER well what can i say.He blagged a CD-R from me before saying HELLO...although he had to wait a few weeks.MAJOR was quiet i recall. As for MUFFY and his crew i thought they livened the place up no end.But as you are aware i sneaked off at 21:00 before i got NORMAL!:pAnd most of you have seen ROCKET at his best/worst now.Bet you wish you had never met me?:D

Ahhh RocketBang only jesting mate! cheer up we got Fulham on saturday at home!!! win that and we go top (at least until arsey play!!)
:p
hmmm...first NOOLer I met was Angie Dawgos...doesn't post here any longer...but she was going to be staying at the same hotel I did...so I was in the lobby, planning out my day when she walked in...
Shuggy left me a message on my rented cell phone before I even left the States, so his voice was the first one I heard...
can't remember for sure who was first to phone me once I got to London...was it Johnny Giles, Liv, or Muffy???
I know Liv phoned me when I was about to head into the Tower of London...but not sure if that was before the others!!!
met up with Giles, Shug and his mate Baldrick at the pub before Chandos...
and thought Mick was an absolute nutter at first...but he presented me with a CD-R that is now on the bottom of the Thames...along with the pin that Jarvo gave me...damned beverages!!!!
supposedly met Liv, Muffy and Kezzie at Chandos, but I'll be damned if I remember that part...
oh the festivities...and can't wait to meet up with don and shuggy in July...
and the rest of you...can't wait to see all of you again either...
oh...and who the hell was it that I kept taking pictures of...using my camera as a frigging strobe light???was it Mickey Way???
damn, I got way tooooooooo drunk that night...but it was still fun...Shug...was that Scottish barkeep cute, or was that the beer talking???
and I think I remember Don walking in with a mate...but like I said...it got fuzzy awfully damn quick...can't trust us colonials with a drink in our hand!!!
thinking back on it, I'm amazed that any of you still bother speaking with me!!!
First people I met (knowingly) were Shug, Liv and their respective posses for Shug's birthday last January. A few beers in the Chandos, then a couple of bars on the way to the Borderline, where the DJ got badgered by all and sundry to play New Order all night. Fine Time indeed.
Next up was meeting Jarvo and JG at the Tony Wilson book signing in March last year - great to meet two kindred spirits with an appreciation for some of the finer things in life (football, beer and the Order !!).
Subsequent jaunts to Europe, Manchester and all over the place have led me to meet a vast number of the good folk of this very site, most recent being Dave Molyneux last week (who, when he's sobered up, will tell you about when I bought a poster off him outside the Portsmouth gig).
1st one i met was jarvo - by accident! we happened to be staying in the same hotel at the liverpool olympia gig, bumped into him in chippy on way back to the hotel, & then again at breakfast next day (not sure if johnny giles was there or not) - he asked how many times i'd seen the prder & then made me very jealous with his announcement he was fopllowin them round the states.
then met him again at manchester & brixton. saw liv in pub at brixton too & mickey way/mr disco - recognised liv from her posts...
remember johnny giles talking me through destructions to get to the chandos to see the rest after had been to twickenham for rugby final bristol were in (don't ask, we lost) & he was very surprised that rocket mick was real - he said rocket mick is here & he's as mad as f**k! there was a ruimour going round that he was a fake (see peregrine underfoot etc) but he wasnt, was there with a mate & i definitely said hello before he offered me any cdrs & believe i offered him one there too.
chandos was where met most of you (shug, jeff, don, hac, tim etc)
tim told me about how he had asked tony wilson to sign the 24hpp book with a fac number for me but had got them muddled up!
saw a lot of them again at the paris gig & the finsbree piss up
First met Steve Waller at a QPR-Luton game just over two years ago. Not a happy night for me, that one. Cos of the result, not cos of Steve. Had been in touch with Steve for a couple of years prior to that via Ceremony though.
Always seemed to keep missing Jonathan Scott. Knew he was gonna be with Stash & Co at Nynex, but didn't speak to them, then was with them at Ally Pally and Jonathan hadn't come down for that one. Another time I was in Glasgow one Sunday night and then he was in London another Friday, but both seemed to miss one another.
Met the legend Johnny G on the train up to Liverpool, after corresponding via this site, or WIM, not sure, cos he was going Stateside on his lonesome and a few of us were already going as well. Been all over the world with him since!
Then finally met Jonathan the same day in a boozer opposite the Olympia (TWELVE years after first reading an article of his in Paradise!!).
Heard Mr Hibell's LWTUA ringtone in a kebab house later that night, but chatted properly the next morning and kept in touch after he posted something to Ceremony the following day.
Met Brian Geaux Hagen in Seattle. Well, I say Seattle, it was actually 150 miles from there in a place called Gorge - but we'd flown over assuming it was just 'Seattle'. Little did we know.
Met Danny Weigorz (I've probably spelt that wrong) in Cologne, and would hook-up with him and Bernard again many times after.
Met Graham F via Jonathan in his infamous Pad bar prior to the 2nd Barras gig. The perfect host - plied us with plenty of shots. Much appreciated. And we all ended up in a club after the gig too.
Introduced to Liv via the Hibster at one of the Brixton gigs. Seb Briggs was there too, and Hooky Monster. And I'm sure there was someone else who occasionally posted - Vicious Streaker, or something?
Also first met Mickey Way at Brixton after I had a spare ticket for him. Had also failed to meet up properly when we were both in Glasgow. Made up for that with a fair few nights out since.
Briefly met another poster in Sweden on the way out of the Cirkus gig, can't remember the moniker.
First met Depthcharge at the Sydney BDO, I think, after failing to hook-up at the Hordern (bit of a cock-up with our expected tickets)
Met Mr & Mrs Candy at the Melbourne Metro.
Me and JG gate-crashed one of Timbo's 'hot-dates' (pre-Karen) at Wilson's book signing.
Big drinks in Mancland organised by Liv, meeting up with Cheeky Monkey, Major, Kezzie, Muffy, Hank, Shug and Marty.
Actually, no, had met Kezzie before that - in a bar near Fabric before New Order were 'supposed' to DJ there (Paula asked Barney about this when we did the Noo Yoik thing the other week and he apparently didn't even know he was supposed to be there that night!).
Met Jim Reilly for the first time in a boozer near Tim's work.
Met Pitch in Paris.
Lots of new faces before the Finsbree gig - Shug's Uncle John (just remembered - I actually met Sludden Senior in Dublin in 1993!), Mr & Little Miss Hacienda, Rockets Mick & Annie, IntaDonovan, Jeff White, Boston FL Girl, Dutch Jim Says No ... er, who else? My mind's a blank. Briefly shook Martin Fradley's hand as I remember. A big posse of Brazilians. Er, EVERYONE was there!
Met Budvar at Move. Actually, no, I'd briefly met Budvar before cos I remember he was talking to Stash and Mad Darren in Brixton and I had a picture of him and Darren somewhere. But I didn't know the Spanish lad I'd met before was actually 'Budvar'.
Met Ness for the first time at Return to New York.
Met Dave Molly the same week in a boozer in Soho. ONE MICKEY 'ARFORD! ;)
Er, I think that must've namechecked just about everyone! Surely I can't have forgotten anyone?!
Blimey, that was exhausting!
Met Johnathan Scott via a mutual friend round about the time of Get Ready's release. Had been reading his posts on WIM for months, was a weird coincidence that we knew the same bloke.
Even weirder was discovering that I had actually caught someone trying to rob his house 5 years earlier! He lived next door to my girlfriend of the time, I heard someone booting his door in at about 11AM one morning, went out to investigate and the rascals scarpered. The bastard never even said thank you!
Anyhow, JS turned into a good friend and through him I had the pleasure of meeting Jarvo and Johnny Giles prior to the 2nd Barras gig. Top geezers for sure.
Didn't meet Muffy till about a year ago despite him living literally 2 mins from my house. Now a regular booze buddy, we never seem to be able to have just a few quiet drinks!
Met Shug, Liv, Kez, Major and Annie at World's End prior to Finsbury. Really should have met more of you but the bird I was with is quite anti-social and I had to keep her sweet, spent most of the afternoon with her and her brother! Next time.
Oh, and I met Jim Reilly in Dublin. Was supposed to buy his spare ticket but ended up sleeping in for the gig after one too many afternoon shandies!
I've met loads of yer and i love you all, i really do. Special mention goes to Rocket Mick for the fight he started on the night bus in manchester. Funniest moment ever.
Jarvo & Johnny Boy Revel.
First met these two in Madchester, which has been mentioned above. Laurel & Hardy they are:D Great craic the pair of em, Jarvo was dead down to earf, and shared quite a few stories on the band and his travels, the both of em had not long been back from the Australia tour. Johnny boy (or should I say Mark, Johnny?;) ) laughs more than anyone I know, and we all talked about footy from what I remember. I also remember Celtic were playing live on Sky in the pub that afternoon, they beat Killie in the Scottish Cup if I remember correctly, and Man U got beat in the League, cos I remember 2 Man City fans dancing around Dry bar hugging and kissing
Also met Hank Wiseass, but I can only remember saying a brief hello. I spent most of the day sat with Marty Gray (or the Martian to several of you) fuck, could he talk! Mad as a fuckin brush, and we talked a lot about this place, and how we have totally fucked the forum up for several people, mainly the people who came out with all the conspiracy theories about JD
The place was far too serious when we started our mission
Also met Cheekeh Monkeh Collette who got even drunker than the rest of us....what more can I say? A great day in Dry Bar, then it was into the Town Centre where we met up with Alex (ATR/Stash/The bastard who got his name on Retro) and all his crowd, I'm sure this was Jarvo's idea.......so fuck you Jarvis
By the way Jarvo, Alex is not only on TFI while they do Regret, but I also seen his baldy heid taking a picture while the band were doin Temptation for The Commonwealth Games. He's everybloodywhere! Great night was spent in another couple of pubs / bars where Liv forced the DJ to play HERE TO STAY, a good 3 weeks before it came out (well done Muffmeister) and then we ended up in the Brickhouse where everyone boogied on down.
In the next enthralling episode.... Rocket Baldy, Donnie Brasco, Jeff The Chef, Boston Girl, Grahame Ferguson, Johan Scott, Luis & The Brasilian Posse, Mickey Way / Mr Disco, Martin Fradley, Dutch Jim and many many more!
How could I forget Majorboy?![]()
The best thing is, that I'm actually in conversation with him on Messenger right now
Sorry Stevie Boy
I met Major before anyone in Manchester, I went up to Derby for the weekend in the care of Liv and Annie, how mad was I?.....Liv honey, I'm only kidding:D
My mate Malky came with me, and Stevie brought his mate Paul. A mental craic was had, after the first weekend (me Tim and Liv) Major asked us to get 5 things that prooved we loved him and that we were drunk, which me and Timbo did, one of these days I'll get all the photies done and shoved on here. Anyway, me and major stuck beermats on our heads and returned the favour for Timbo, as he couldnae make it, childish, but extremely funny!
I remember sitting in the hotel room with a beer, when Major phoned Liv to go pick him up from the station, I couldnae be bothered, so I stayed at the travel lodge......Steve and Paul got there about half an hour later, I received an "all right" in grumpy northern overtones from the lads, nae offence Major. I expected the wee one to be relatively quiet, dunno why! he's as loud as LIV when he gets goin, and fair play to him, he really is funny as fuck.....and I'm not just saying that Stevie lad. Had a great craic talkin football, and me saying they were unlucky as fuck cos they support Sheffield Wednesday
Several beers later, we all ended up in some dark and smelly nightclub, it was very slow to start, but picked up later. I remember coming back from a pish in the bogs, to the sound of Blur's "End Of A Century" dived straight onto the dancefloor where Me, Stevie, Paul and Malky belted it out at the top of our voices, great craic!
But the best was to be saved till the end, all the group were fookin steamin, and we had been harrassing the poor wee dj all night, us lot had taken over the corner in the club, when all of a sudden BIZARRE LOVE TRIANGLE starts (the 12" version an all!) we went "Fuckin Banana's" the people in the club did not know what to think, we were hugging and kissing each other and goin mental......great night!
Hope that's okay Majorboy;)
ahh...yes..quite forgot about Hank...met him for the first time (that I remember) inside Finsbury...had the hardest time understanding anything he was saying...but at least he did explain what a scouser was!!!
Originally posted by Major Tarantino I've met loads of yer and i love you all, i really do. Special mention goes to Rocket Mick for the fight he started on the night bus in manchester. Funniest moment ever.
