i'm bored at home today, hence too many postings... a couple of years ago i was working in North London (freelance video editor) on a weekend. feelin miserable about having to work through the weekend i took 2 JD albums with me and preceded to play extremely loud. (nice big empty warehouse style office, exposed brickwork & the like!)

for some reason, probably in some work-avoidance mode, i actually read the sleeve notes for the first time ever & saw that closer was recorded at britannia row studios. doin a search on the net then i realised that it was on the ground floor of the building i was in at the time. same website made me realise that the hope & anchor pub round the corner was the site of some of the first JD london gigs. made work seem a bit cooler for a while!

also, slightly more tenous...i have a mate called jonny who was born in 1963 so i got him that cutout blue/white 1963 promo signed for hi bday!

any other similar stories?

Which Hope & Anchor was it? The one behind the Camden Palace?? Always wondered that.

I was in the Luton & Dunstable hospital last weekend. Same hospital they had to stop at when Curtis had one of his first fits going back up the M1.

upper street N1. i think loads of bands used to play there then, clash etc. still do gigs there now, downstairs. my girlfriends ex played down there once which is annoyingly quite cool.

I've done every boozer on Upper Street, but honestly can't think of it. Perhaps it's changed its name since?

Seen a few bands in the Powerhaus on Liverpool Road, including the likes of Orbital and Revenge, but that's an All Bar One now!

Britannia Row Studios are now down by Fulham Broadway, and they've also got a studio off Clapham Common. They certainly used to be on Upper Street N1 though.

Well, I've definitely been there, cos I've done every pub on that stretch of road, though can't immediately picture it - prefer the Angel end of the road as a rule (few of us from NOOL all went to see 24hrPP together at the Screen on the Green).

However, there is one pub there packed with old band posters, and bits of cut-out music press clippings and stuff making up the 'decorations' on the wall so assume that must be it?! Can't imagine anyone actually playing 'live' there though - it's not a pub I'd picture as a 'venue' as such though.

now its getting silly... britannia row N1 is owned by pink floyd Mr Mason (drummer i beleive) was it owned by him then? i think several PF albums were also done there (not a fan personally), anyway from N1 i went to work in fulham & now currently work just off clapham common. how can a studio be following me!? benny, you truly are a fountain of knowledge!

I think so as "Animals" (1977) and parts of "The Wall" (1979) were recorded there.
