It is similar. The best thing to do is play Run and sing Jet Plane along with it. Personally, I prefer Jet Plane.
It's a shame Jeff Denver had to take legal proceedings when NO must be one of the only bands ever not to have ripped people off.
But now he's a gonner. And the irony is that he died, leaving within a jet plane, running somewhere.

Saw a headline in the music press at the time which said 'Barney Rumbled'
One of my favourite ever headlines along with 'Last of the Sumner whine'
A few years back, I went to a friend's house, who just happened to have a "John Denver's greatest hits" CD. Much to my friend's amazement (he knows my tastes) I asked him "can I listen to this?". I heard "Leaving..." for the first -and last- time in my life and found absolutely no connection with "Run"!
Am I tone-def?
i can´t believe that john denver guy made a trial about it. and even less can´t believe that he actually won it!

Actually, he DIDN'T won it...technically! They made one of those "out-of-court" agreements.
Rumour has it that Hell is full of lawiers doing amicable settlements with unwanting clients...

He's considering a sequel, you know?

It will be called "Bushzilla: the quest for oil"
I've seen worst case of ressemblance than this one..
But it's true.. you CAN sing Run over Leaving on a Jet Plane.. Run is speeded up though...
The notes might be similar, but I still don't get how they managed to do a link between both songs! I know I wouldn't have without the law suit...
IT'S CRAP MAN!!!!!
RUN IS FAR BETTER & BEARS VERY LITTLE RESEMBLENCE TO 'LEAVING ON A JET PLANE'. I WISH HE JUST LEFT IN A JET PLANE & LET NEW ORDER GET ON WITH IT!
IT'S A GREAT SONG & MR DENVER FUCKED IT UP!
I WON'T RIP INTO HIM ANYMORE AS I HAVE RESPECT FOR THE DEAD, EVEN WHEN THEY ARE ANAL ABOUT HOW LITTLE A BAND'S SONG SOUNDS LIKE THEIR OWN! (GET ME?)
They sound alike as much as John Fogerty's Old Man Down The Road sounded like Creedence's Run Through The Jungle, and he was sued by his old record company, which John won. I never thought of Jet Plane when I heard Run for the first time.
blue maonday can be sung over can't get you out of my head & vice versa but there's no law suits there
lots of songs can be sung to others but they aren't the same - my parents have a john denver greatet hits & have listened to it several times & I just don't get the connection
You can't sing Bon Jovi's Shock to the Heart over Elvis Presley's Wooden Heart.
But you probably could make Sister Sledge songs fit with some Blow Monkeys tracks. I haven't tried it but my mate reckons he can. And he hasn't even heard of the Blow Monkeys.
Anyway, if John Denver won the court case it must mean he at least owned Technique. Which is always a good thing.

Is it too late for him to challenge Mr. Disco with a cowboy song?
