Steve has a pic of Sooty, Barney one of Bez, and Peter has Iggy. There was a thread on this some time ago, you can find more info on that one.

Just realized I acutally have that article typed..

Stephen Morris: When I first got told you'd be asking who my hero was, I said instantly and very flippantly that it was Sooty. But when I thought about it I realised he's one of the reasons I do what I do, 'cos Sooty was my first gig! There's this distant memory I've got from when I was four years old of being taken to a tent somewhere in Derbyshire with a mate to see Sooty, and I was very impressed to see him playing the xylophone. That was it: I already had the Sooty bike, I pleaded with Mam to get me a Sooty xylophone and that was where it all started. I got the xylophone, for and Christmas Santa brought us the Sooty drum kit. And that was me started playing drums, 'cos of Sooty.

Peter Hook: I choose Iggy Pop, because he never gives less than 55,000 per cent - every time he sings he just fuckin' goes for it. I'm sure it was the same when he was 17. He plays his heart out every single time you see him, and I think it's fantastic somebody loves it that much. I got into him through Ian Curtis. Iggy's had an influence on me energywise. And we often sat there, Bernard and I, and tried to rip off his songs. In fact, we were successful with a couple. The guy gives you the inspiration via the energy. He's everything. I don't care how big he is- when he plays he may as well be fuckin' 10 feet tall man. He plays like a demon. He takes drugs like a demon, he drinks like a demon, and then when he goes straight he goes straight like a demon. He does everything to excess, it's fantastic.

Bernard Sumner: Bez been up there since we were producing the early Mondays stuff, especially as a friend. He's a gentle nutter - the best dancer with usually the best drugs. He's a bit difficult to pigeonhole - I think he was credited as 'vibes' on the Mondays' albums - but his vibes were more important to those albums than almost any guitarist or singer in other bands you can mention. Got good ears, Bez. He's a musical genius. Bez is one of the most unpretentious people I know. He doesn't give a fuck about what anyone thiks about him. THIs is his most endearing quality. However, what I remember most is the way he used to get large trails of dried spit in the corners of his mouth at acid house parties!

Some of others go Johnny Marr - Aldous Huxley Ian McCulloch - David Bowie Shaun Ryder - Charlie Parker Paul Weller - George Best Tom Rowlands - Brian Eno John Lydon - Gandhi (!) Pete Townshend - Peter Blake Michael Stipe - Patti Smith

Marilyn Manson picked Iggy Pop too.. Strange link there :nonono:

I saw Iggy during the Krk festival this summer. He gave less than 55,000 percent. He gave less than 55 percent, actually.

I've had my photograph taken with Sooty. Beat that.

That's sad... I saw him in 1996 and he blew me away. One of my best gigs, actually!

You may laugh all you want, but I'm positive I'm not the only one who wonders..

What the hell is Sooty ?!?!?

Here is his life story :) Now, we have to whisper this bit in case there's any kids around, but he's basically a glove puppet who never speaks out loud, but who will whisper to said glove puppet manipulator in the ear, but no-one ever hears him. Personally, I've always preferred Sweep myself :)

Funnily enough, I always remember an interview with Barney in Record Mirror (long gone, sadly) where the interviewer asked why they rarely spoke to fans, and Barney said something along the lines of "musicians are really boring when you get to meet them in real life. I remember I went backstage to meet Sooty after one of his shows and he said nothing to me - ignorant bastard..."

that one bears a spooky resemblance to the one on the front page of this site promoting war child.

what gives - is that an official picture on the front page in which case has the band reached a new depth of laziness or is it a case of digital trickery on the part of the webmasters?

this one is the original. the one on the front page is a montage. the webmasters did a pretty good job, didn´t they?
