Birmingham 86 - simply superb. Very glad I still have the clear memories and excellent recording.

Shocked me yesterday looking at the frontpage of this site. 16 years since the Woolwich Coronet. I remember it like it was just yesterday(!), everything about the day, down to the way we'd only spotted it in the NME that very morning (I was going to Brixton with mates anyways) and how I wasn't that bothered but it was the girlfriend who insisted she wanted to go, even though she had her leg in plaster (not a break, a ruptured tendon or something), and how we ran into another mate on the way to the train station and when we said we were going to see New Order he just went 'What do they do live - just press a button?'.

I always give this answer, so I'm gonna stick with it.
I can never decide between Finsbury Park 87 and Reading 89. Finsbury was the first live tape I ever borrowed from Uncly John, as has been said recently. And the Reading Festival 89 is just one of the best setlists ever.
I also have Reading 89 on video, from 2 different angles.....which is nice. I'm sure everyone will recall the famous "I've seen you all, dressed in black, pickin yer fookin noses" from Barney aimed at the Mission fans
I was fortunate enough to be at the Liverpool show in July 01, so I'd pick one of the above.

Go for Finsbury 87, Shug. Pure bedlam all day, and the Mondays and ACR for support. Biggest crush I've ever witnessed for a gig and Very intimidating at times.
Reading 89 doesn't compete, though apparently it had 'very nice lights' according to some girls I knew who stood well back from the stage (you couldn't appreciate the lights from down the front).

Birds....they're simple creatures really;) By all accounts I've heard from John (it was his and Lorraine's first gig) I woulda been dead in about 5 minutes, so it would have been just after touched, I woulda headed straight to the bar and enjoyed another great set from the sidelines!

You shit, you have a vid. of this gig? - at certain points can you make out shapes around 20 mins. in? - is it so fizzy you could sell it as an ice pop? Will it be like a blank tape but with New Order written somewhere on it with the wrong year?

Big Al - Do The Ostrich was the encore wasn't it! - I think I've had my hands on the bootleg 7" with white cover which has a crap drawing of an ostrich on it and it does specifically state 'encore, do the ostrich'.

Funnily enough when i posted this topic that G-MEX 88 gig was top of my thought list!!
I remember seeing a couple of tracks on video round Shugzys while getting ready for a night on the piss
He rants and raves about this gig to this very day, and i must admit it does sound like an epic!!!!!!!
The sound quality is superb, just a pity the camera dude had 3 E's too many (a bit like Barney that night, judging by his dancing )

Made more so because the sound was absolutely perfect. Big, powerful, bassy ... it was massive.
Atmosphere of the place was amazing, ACR (all 50 of them) seemed to go down well although I couldn't here much because they kept playing flutes and stuff too loud, then The Happiest Mondays came on and I remember Hooky walking across the stage and flicking the V's at HM's while they were at it. Then the lights went off and then TBTHOG kicked in with its famous bass drum and bassline.
Why oh why oh why did they ever change that for live appearances?
Anyway, as if it couldn't get any better AOC started (which took over the drum machine sound from the 1st songs) and I can still remember how S Morris's bass and snare came into my chest and bounced my heart (and soul).
Whatever anyone tells you, believe them ... it was fucking incredible.

G-MEX 88 ..i was here and HUNTSMAN this VIDEO is terrible but the concert was SPECIAL.Loved VANISHING POINT!

1..sheff uni 85...if i would have known what the first four songs were going to be i would have stayed away from the front. 2..leeds tiffs...just to feel again the atmosphere when tpk kicked in..they kept us waiting for hours!!! 3..i also wish i could have seen them stateside..
God, what I wouldn't give to hear Special live. I heard they goofed it up big time. Does anybody have it in mp3 format? Anyways, yeah, I'd go to that concert just to hear it live.
My NO live history consists of two Readings and one Finsbury Park so any pre '93 gig ( even one of the dodgy ones ) would be pretty sweet.

I never made it to the bog or to any stall offering snacks, me and my pal were lucky to get out alive. We were v. young and probably too young to even be allowed in the place (me mate looked like a proper bloke though so I stood behind him).
GMex 88. Has just discovered the Order the previous year & a mate was supposed to be sorting the tickets.
He f***ed up & I don't think I ever spoke to him again.:hate:
To hear all these great reports is sickening but WTF, I made it to the 98 comeback gig, so I can't be bitter.:)

What more can I say? Unbelievable. This is one of THE legendary New Order gigs. I was there, one of about 20 or so at the front taking pictures until Barney told everyone to go to the front after Leave Me Alone. Still seems like it was just yesterday.
