Somebody help myself and the Rocket out please.

We want to know what the "Here Are The Old Men" project was. We both have slight differences of opinion:lol: Was this project gonna be a video, or was it the title thrown about by the band for the GET READY album? Equally, it could be neither of these:D

Help needed, and while I'm at it, was this project given a FAC number?

Ach well.....the next question is....

Rumour has it that the band was due to provide incidental music for a documentary on former Nazi officers living in South America at the time (we're talking 1987/8 here). But at the end of the day the band withdrew from the project, as they thought the title was lame.

I believe it was meant to be a New Order live video, a pun on the Joy Division video 'Here are The Young Men'

Wasn't this going to be the video compilation to accompany Substance, in a similar way to the New Order Substance video?

Probably got canned when they realised there wasn't enough material to go on it!

The timing could be right because this was a long time ago when it was first mentioned and the FAC numbers suggest this! Cheers ROCKET MICK

Found this at joydivisioncentral.com:

Includes the following material:

"Shadowplay"(Granada TV, Granada Reports 20-9-78)

"She's Lost Control"+"Shadowplay"+"Leaders Of Men"(live Altrincham, Bowden Vale Youth Club 14-3-79)

"She's Lost Control"+interview(excerpt)+"Transmission" (Something Else, BBC 2 TV 15-9-79)

"Dead Souls"+"Wilderness" (live Manchester Apollo 27-10-79)

"Love Will Tear Us Apart" (original promo video with "live" sound and double-tracked vocals, recorded 28-4-1980 or possibly 18-4-1980)

"Atmosphere" (black & white promo video directed by Anton Corbijn, 1988)

"Wired" Fact 211(Channel 4 TV feature 1-7-88).

I take back what I said about it earlier, looks like it would have been quite good!

Julio mentions this version on an earlier post. It's on the unreleased FAC 277 (my Qwest copy is titled FAC 207 in it's credits) compilation video.

From Dennis Remmers's site:

FAC 277 JOY DIVISION: Substance Video ??? 88

Contents:

VHS: US 1988 (Factory/Qwest FAC 277)

3:50 Shadowplay (Live) * 4:17 She's Lost Control (Live) ** 3:32 Shadowplay (Live) ** 3:32 Leaders of Men (Live cut) ** 3:14 Transmission (Live) *** 0:32 {Interview} *** 3:37 She's Lost Control (Live) *** 6:14 Dead Souls **** 2:41 Wilderness **** 3:23 Love Will Tear Us Apart ***** 4:31 Atmosphere 13:27 {TV Special - Wired} ******

* Granada TV Appearance. ** Fairly cheap footage from the Bowdale Youth Club gig. *** "Something Else" TV Appearance, recorded in BBC2 Studios and broadcast live [15 Sep 1979]. **** From FACT 37. ***** Clip version, but apparently with the original soundtrack as recorded. ****** From FAC 211.

Cheers peeps, very helpful indeedy.

Just shows how good my vid compilations are.....I completed a 3hr Joy Division comp 3 months ago called "The Sound Of Music" which has all the above on it, plus the rest of Here Are The Young Men, and another couple of documentaries on Joy Division from Later and Sex, Drugs Ruck n Roll, I wonder if the band are looking for a video producer:D Just a pity, I do not have the ORIGINAL material to play around with!
