Sunning it in Caribbean luxury may sound a million miles from grimy eighties Madchester, but could New Order's Bernard Sumner be making something of a statement about his roots?

I hear the veteran vocalist has just snapped up a 40ft yacht, currently moored off the coast of Wales but set for a trip to steamier climes later this year.

So maybe its something of a tribute to the Hacienda years- after all, the infamous club was set up in a disused yacht warehouse on Whitworth Street. Or maybe a sailing boat with all the mod cons is just a very nice way to spend his millions.

Says my mole: "Bernard's been spending weekends in Wales getting the yacht ready- it's pretty nifty, eight or nine berths, I think, with a plasma screenTV and DVD.

"He's planning on taking a load of trips out this summer with mates. Then there's a holiday to the Caribbean when the weather gets rubbish over here."

didn't he sing about sailing the ocean and everyone go with him and about turning your lifes upside down? maybe he knows some where safe for specially selected people to go, or maybe he'll entice certain individuals to sea to drop them over board and drown them for either fun or cult reasons...who knows, be careful folks, it might look enticing but do you really know what your getting into;) stay away from that sumner man, theres something not right about him.

Mr. Sumner, How come you forgot you used to be a punk? Where do those yachts and bellyaches come from? Awww, I thought you were higher than having a high rich life with all bonuses at once. I believed the only thing you could rely on in punk rock is their being modest and morally clean. Oops.. Oh well.

An ordinary punk.

Since we've all contributed greatly to the finance for this yacht, I reckon all NOOLers should get an invite. It's the least he can do !

Presumably Barney will be the skipper so what shall we call him? Captain Birdseye Captain Sensible Captain Beaky Captain Hook or Roger the cabinboy?
