This may have been posted before but did anyone see NME about a month ago, when they had their special 100 best albums ever issue, as voted for by the writers. Technique was at no. 21 (i think) and Closer was No. 14. They were the only NO/JD albums in there. The winner was The Stone Roses

Don't think I can remember that, and I buy it every week.
Today's magazine has two reviews of Joy Division (Les Baines and Preston have been re-issued)
Paris got 9 and Preston 7which is very fair
good review to go with it.
I have already started on my next project for NOOL, I have been going through all the cuttings from the music papers, and some of the books on the band......I'm gonna review the reviews:D
I hope Dave McCullough's not a frequenter to these pages
I'll probably get done for copywright, but fuck it, it's never stopped me before. I just hope they take it in the way it was intended.
If the NME brought out a JD/NO special like they've done with the Manics, and the latest edition (Manchester) of NME Originals, it'd save me a helluva lot of work, so if anyone from that mag checks here.....do me a favour
It was definately in. The issue was out on 5th March (according to NME.com) I didn't buy it i just read it in the newsagent like the cheapscate I am
I must've been on Overtime that week then me ole mucker, saving for a trip to the US

Influenced - Interpol Why it's great - Joy Division's Ian Curtis had hanged himself by the time his last songs were released, and it is consequently hard to see beyond 'Closer' as the staggeringly bleak worldview of an ailing man on the brink of suicide. Working here with legendary producer Martin Hannett, the bands second album painted a picture of a monochrome and threatening world which was beginning to close in on the singer Best track- Atrocity Exhibition

Influenced - The Rapture Why it's great - Partly recorded in Ibiza, this post-acid house masterpiece is New Order's most perfect album Best track- Round & Round
No. 41 - Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Influenced - U2 Why it's great - It's shockingly original, from the bible black music to late frontman Ian Curtis' isolated, tortured lyrics Best track- New Dawn Fades

re 1: frankly, the ratings should be reversed. The Paris-tracks on 'Paris' sound terrific (my absolute all time favourite 'Shadowplay' is on it), but it's only part of the gig (and badly mastered it is, too! 
) and the random choice of tracks from Amsterdam & Eindhoven (including the incomplete 'Passover'... what were they trying to prove??? 
) is just, err, too random.
Preston, on the other hand, is something else completely. Sure, a lot of mishaps happened that night, but the way the second half of the show builds and builds until the smouldering finale of 'She's Lost Control' is truly amazing. My favourite jukebox band! And I love the way they roughened up the sound of the recording for this release!!
- I'm almost certain that we'll see a Joy Division/New Order 'Originals' pretty soon. I happened to leaf through the Madchester volume at my local newsagent yesterday, and if there's any New Order in it, I didn't see it - which is just ridiculous unless they're saving those bits for a different volume.

Big Joos will come good, he's still struggling with the knee injury he picked up playing for the national team a couple of weeks ago.
As for the two live CD's, I'll have to listen to them again, I haven't played Les Baines fer ages, and I couldn't remember tracks from Effenaar being added. I remember the Preston CD pretty clearly, it was famed for the poor quality due to a lot of the gig being played through Hook's bass amp, it was kinda hard listening to, and an even stranger version of Eternal, cos the keyboards were caput
Whether I'll agree with you is another matter;)
On the "Originals" front, I really hope the NME do something like that, it'd be great to see
They done a good job with the Manics one, I still haven't seen the Madchester one, but I will definitely try and get it this weekend (even though I probably have all the contents of it )
