i wanted to know if any NOOLer ever made a cover of any of our beloved bands. because i did on the New Order Homage Party we did in Buenos Aires a month ago. and i wanted to share with everyone those tracks. all were acoustic versions (voice and guitar) because i was rebuilding my band at the time.

i hope you like them and please feel free to put your thoughts here.

and if anyone has any cover please post it here too so everyone could enjoy it.

I'll have a listen later.

Try this link for one rather well-known NOOL cover, featuring Marty, Jim and me.

There used to be a version online on this site I think - I'll upload it later tonight and e-mail you the link, along with some of the solo stuff and other songs we did at Homage.

don´t be. it´s ok. it´s strange what happens with that song. when i played it live most of the audience thought it was "good" but also said it was weird to listen to an acoustic version of new dawn fades. it seems like the song is "untouchable" for JD fans. i´m not quite as fan of JD as i am of NO, so maybe i don´t have any "prejuices" at the moment of doing a cover. i also know it´s difficult to sing where ian sang before. that doesn´t happen with barney, does it?

I´m a huge Joy Division fan,and you know about that. Your version for my pearl New Dawn Fades is fantastic and thousand times better than John Frusciante acoustic version for it. Congratulations.

Hey, if there are enough musician members here that covered a NO/JD, we could make a NOOL Tribute to New ORder cd. :D

Cool idea actually! There may be enough stuff out there already to get half of one together.

There are samples of the EP in the bootleg section I think ;)

Should do the one you sent me soon.. it's horrible, since I'm using the train to go to work, I don't have time to listen to my CDs in the car  so I'm waaaaaaaaay late in listening to the stuff I've received..

Would be REALLY cool to do that.. but I have no idea if this is doable and the laws and everything....

I'd have to ask François since he's doing one right now, but there is 2 NOOL members on it (Brendan Sun & Geoffroy Klumpes) (I appologize in advance for the spelling of Klumpy's last name)

Where's the whooping?

Oh yeah, Almanso, do you want me to put there here in our cover archives?

If so, please provide a small "description" of each song explaining what you wanted to do or why you did that track, etc.. not too long though! Would be nice, and provide date and location information.

And Tim, if you want me to do the rest, let me know, I'd be happy to put them online!

Not bad work Almanso - particularly liked "This time I'm not wrong" with that arrangement. And well done getting Mikhail Gorbachev to do guest vocals on NDF (Joking!). The idea of a NOOL cover band is intriguing, as I play guitar mainly, but I'm adequate on bass and synth also (I have both) - any Melbourne-based NOOLers interested, post your responses below (braces for deafening silence). CTB :bear:

BTW, it's quite true that your version of Ceremony is really good..

Well, great songs always do great covers, I don't think I've seen a bad Ceremony cover... ;)

that´s true. when the song helps everything´s easier. i just try to connect emotionally with the song i´m performing. and sometimes that connection is stronger. listening to my version of ceremony again i realized i play and sing more emotionally than the others. maybe i was more connected with that song in particular. just a thought.

Fookin ell Alejo! Top class, I'm only able to play audio stuff when I'm down here (Grandparents) I have just listened to New Dawn Fades, and have to give you very high marks, it just goes to show you can feel the same power with an accoustic version! Just listened to parts of Close Range and Ceremony, I haven't got time to listen to them all cos the Man Utd game starts in a minute, I prefer NDF to Ceremony, and I think Close Range is sorted and pucker:thumb:

 Well done, just goes to show there are some truly talented people that come here, kinda puts me to shame really!

Timbo - I'll listen to yours later:beer:

hmmmm, i don´t think so. it seems joy division is no my mètier, i admit it. besides, i think it´s a wonderful song but without the bass...... hmmmm. just don´t seem to work out well. but who knows? maybe in a couple of weeks (when i won´t be so busy) you´ll have a surprise in you mailbox ;)

not bad almanso.. you even sound a little like barney. good job, especially on close range and ceremony.

i sound like barney? hehe, you should see me live. i even close my eyes and hold the microphone! well, now i´m trying not to do it since my girlfriend once said: "you´re just like barney up there!". it was too obvious, you know? it´s better to be yourself. there´s only one barney.... thank god :D

Finally got a chance to have a listen last night, and here is the result of the Cobweb jury.

Ceremony - loved it ! Wasn't expecting the whistled guitar part, and this added something to the track. I'd been figuring out how best to do Ceremony acoustically myself, now I know !

Close Range - absolutely excellent. Will play this again and again.

NDF - loved the change of style and speed to the vocals, prefer this to Moby's acoustic version any day of the week.

Sabotage - haven't had a chance to listen to it all yet, but enjoyed what I have heard.

Will listen to This Time I'm Not Wrong and Warning Sign tonight, but don't know the originals.

I've only heard Ceremony, to echo what's already been said by a number of the peeps:

It's fuckin (insert favorite Barney whoop here) fantastic.

We expected latin beats though

And singing like Enrique Eglesias (yeah right, he's Spanish, not from Argentina :D )

hahaha, really?!?!? and instead of barney´s whoos some "olé" now that you mentioned this i´m quite curious about the covers that we´ll receive from all around the world. different cultures and different ways of life makes you feel the music very different too. i´m not expecting a brazilian cover with a samba style or a scottish cover with bagpipes or a polish cover with polka style (though they would be quite interesting :D ). i´m expecting new order songs played by people that felt those songs different than me. and that´s VERY interesting. in fact i think new order members should listen to the tribute as musicians and see what they´ve produced on people from all around the world. i´m very excited!

Benny Boy, I finally got a chance to listen to yer alter-ego, a Mr F West.......and I have to say it was a helluva lot better than I was expecting.....I must have been pissed as fuck that night, cos I thought you were terrible;) Fair play, and is there any chance you can send me the homage night on CDR? Let me just say that your cover of Sabotage was absolutely brilliant. I'd suggest submitting that instead of Ceremony. I must say that usually I hate acoustic versions, but yours were all really good. Maybe we'll hear more in the future? ;)

Know what I think would serve the acoustic world good? Insight. Or you could cover Doubts Even Here just special for me? :D:D:D

DEH is my favourite Movement track even though i don´t think an acoustic version would make "justice" to its greatness.... i´d do it anyway. but you´ll have to wait ´cause i´m a little busy at the moment working on remixes (not NO), with the tribute thing (a lot time consuming), with songs for the tribute, and with MY songs of course! ;) i´ll let you know when i have news about it.

thank you for your words ;) btw, what do you think about new dawn fades (since it´s your favourite JD song)? is it an "untouchable" song? i mean, it seems JD fans only like the original version and it´s hard for them to listen to another one. forget MY version, i´m speaking in general.

its impossible to completely ruin a good song like that. you will never be better than the original but i think cover versions are cool. gives you more options. if your making an industrial cd youd put mobys version. if your making an acoustic cd youd use yours. thats just one thing but yeah. i love joy division. i like them more than new order myself. and i dont think any song by either is untouchable. just to let anyone who hates cover versions know: people arent trying to be the original. they like the song so they decide to take a stab at it in their own way. :) theres actually a pretty good cover of it out there by a band called violet dreaming. ive been listening to it alot lately.
