Not an easy one to call, but i've never prefered BM live over the original and Confusion as well, Atmosphere is a difficult one being a JD track but i think that would sound better being recorded in a studio (with Barney exercising some restraint on the whoops and yelps!
)

I like the live BM with the added 'heavy metal guitar' that Barny always apologises for.
And someone should do a bootleg compilation of Barny's best whoops.

After seeing the band a few times, you instinctively know when the whoops are gonna happen
John's missus Lorraine caught Barney jumping in the air while whooping during BLT at the Ally Pally.....one of these days I'll get all my concert photies scanned and put on here!
Worst songs live?
Crystal has never been done proper justice IMO, and as fer Guilty Partner![]()
I did a thread on Barneys whoops once!! that would be funny to do a compilation montage of whoops!!! ![]()

It's not the greatest, but I love the song, you'll see it on the TF video when we can get someone from your country who can copy them;)
There's quite a few that sounded worse live.....
Special Guilty Partner 60 mph (they don't know how to play it) Paradise (high bass just gets too overblown !)
Atmosphere - not quite Barney's vocal range
Run - some of the (overdubbed) hi-hats are really missing here
Special - but i'd give it another chance if they'd rehearse it more properly.
Leave Me Alone - unfortunately...

Very true... as I mentioned in the other part of this thread, I don't think there's any version where the guitars don't go horribly astray.
I also think the long EGG's from spring '81 are boring... but this was rectified in '82!!
Temptation.
Wait, no.
World doesn't sound too good live, which is sad cause it's one of my favourite NO tracks :( and Everyone Everywhere lacked something live too.

BLASPHEMY!!!
No, he's right. It is shite, and not a patch on the original.

I disagree, I think it's an excellent reworking of what is a pretty bland song, in my opinion :)

I equally like them both, although the Perfecto version should be scrapped for the next tour.
Close Range does nothing for me live (as in the 5 11 DVD).

I love all the whoops! BLT does sound crummy. Also, Hooky's bass doesn't sound too good in perfect kiss, there's no attack. Listen to it(the video version doesn't count) There's no punch. However, I was luckey enough to see both revenge and monoco live. Hooky is amazing in a small club. I hope they do a club tour in the USA.
Even if they play all the "worse" live songs, I'll be honored for the rest of my life if they can grace me with a live performance. :D

I disagree too! I think it's a shite reworking of a shite song. A song saved only by the video.

Try seeing Perfect Kiss live and telling me the bass has no punch. It kicks everything else into touch. More chance of Hooky personally appearing on here and threatening those who says his bass has no punch than there is of them doing a club tour of the US. Or any tour of the US.

Doesn't sound to me that you've heard TPK live, John. Listen to the BBC '87 recording, or one of the high quality CD-Rs floating around and I think you'll see the light!
Actually, I'm not too fond of the '87 Glasto version, towards the end I'm used to hearing Gillian's synth and Hooky's bass above all, and it's mixed all funny (at least to my ears).
I prefer other versions, such as Belgium '86, London Poly '85, Nottingham '84. But above all, the 9 min video version (not the one from Retro), Barney's guitar at the end is the most amazing he's ever done.
Shame I actually wasn't there to experience this masterpiece live though. :(
True Faith a "shite" song?
Come on.. I've never seen the video until 1992 I think, and I was hooked to this song since I heard it...
Don't like too much the perfecto mix though, but I'm not sure this song really works live, it's more a club song IMHO.

Yep, it's shite. If it hadn't got a catchy video it would have bombed. One of these songs that was made by the video. It wasn't even the best thing they wrote that year !

Spot on, Benny.
They were hardly prolific in 1987, tho' were they ? Toothache, 1963, TBTHOG and two reworked versions of old classics.
1963 should have been the single in '87 - it was just miles better than Toothache
I have a live mp3 of NO 'atmosphere', and it's not quite his range in the beginning but he finds his voice in it. I think it is a very beautiful and touching live JD/NO song and he makes it his own.
pixs
p.s.(I'm listening to it as I am writing this)

Yeah - BLT is one of those songs that is enhanced by the perfection of the studio... also it's really hard to dance to when the sequencer skips.
Everyone Everywhere is certainly the worst I've heard live, although the glastonbury '87 versions of TBTHOG, and True Faith were quite putrid (they've sounded much better, live, since).
