Just picked this up. Nice article. And 4 of me mates (incl Johnny Giles who posts here occasionally - look for an England shirt!), plus a German girl we met over there, are all pictured in the audience shot at the Shoreline. Me and the Mrs, alas, were to the right of the stage in front of Hooky, so didn't quite squeeze into the shot.

Ha ha ha, me too VG, I couldn't bring my self to buy it for EXACTLY the same reason, that those nauseating arsewipes the Stereophonics are on the cover......lest any one forget.....I FUCKIN' HATE THE STEREOPHONICS!! ESPECIALLY THOSE FUCK- UGLY EYEBROWS ON THAT KELLY JONES DICKHEAD....AS FOR THEIR OUTDATED, PEDESTRIAN, TENTH-RATE SUB-CROAKY MEAT-AND-TWO-VEG BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN-ISMS, THEY MAKE ME WANNA CUP MY FARTS, SAUTEE THEM, AND EAT THEM..... STEREOPHONICS? MONOPHONICS MORE LIKE. IN FACT THOSE FUCKING EYEBROWS ON KELLY JONES ARE POSITIVELY......QUADROPHONIC!!! FUCK OFF!!

I had a serious moral conflict when I picked up the Mojo with NO on the cover, and they had been cropped up to the top corner so that Jim Morrison's bearded mug could take up valuable space.

The latest Spin (Incubus on the cover), features a review of Heart and Soul, gives it a 9.

Only got in the Shoreline pic 'cos that fat security geezer checked our tix - we'd crashed down to be as close to the front as poss - & moved us on!

Good bit on the bands favourite NO & related tracks.

There's also a photo from the back of the stage, at the Vancouver gig. Reckon we could have all got in this Al if it wasn't for Hooky's right knee.

Funny you should mention that as I think there were 2 versions of Mojo out.One featured, in all his dead glory, that Morrison bloke and the other was a full on New Order cover.I nearly made the mistake of buying the former.

At least you got a choice. Here in the Northwest, we were stuck with the Jim M. cover. I don't think it would be that hard to import a few magazines of each cover to let fans here in the States pick out the one that they wanted. Also wasn't the first time that Mojo has had a different cover for the U.K. and the States.

At least neither edition had the BLOODY STEREOPHONICS on the cover. I HATE The Stereophonics!!!!

All I could find was the Jimbo cover, and I had already gone back and forth for a month looking for the damn thing. So long as they kept the article the same I'm happy

I have a copy of Mojo mag with Jim Morrison on cover. But New Order article is good.

I prefered Select to Mojo or Q. But it was discontinued. :(

I've heard some *okay* stuff from Stereophonics, so I won't join in on the bashing just yet.

It's got nothing to do with being Welsh - it's the fact that his music is so pedestrian: just check some of those song titles: "Local Boy In The Photograph", "More Life In A Tramp's Vest" (you DON"T say!!!); "Mr. writer" "Have A Nice Day" "Step On My Old Size Nines" "Traffic" "Potato Peelings" "(Let's Play With My) Wooden Spoons" ....I mean.... how mundane can you get? Has he really written a song with the working title of "Meat and Two Veg" yet?

And is Vinnie Jones his half-brother? I ponder this cuz they share the same hideous eyebrows.....

wow. martin youve taken the words right out of my mouth. its only music i know, and doesnt really amount to a hill of beans, but i can`t help but feel deeply offended by the likes of the stereophonics. why do people buy their records? "um cuz its new, fresh music like." no it aint.its just the same old crap; "solid,well-crafted songwriting" as Q would probably say :sleepy:

Martin, don't think that the Stereophonics sell a hell of a lot of product over here, and nobody I know has any of their stuff. I've only got one song that was on one of those Q cd's, and I gave it another listen when I read your post. I was not impressed. Came back and gave it another listen after a couple of drinks. The alcohol did not help in the least.

I saw the Phonics at Donnington Park back in July, and to honest, they rocked. Some of their stuff is a bit ropey, but in general, i do like their music.

Featuring a special guest appearance from the all-male Welsh Rugby Choir.Which reminds me - the best thing I ever heard anyone say about old greaseball TeeJay came from my old flat mate Jeannette's mouth: "I'd be more than happy to throw my knickers at Tom Jones anyday, as long as I've shat in them first."

I think its unfair not to comment on the recent expansion of the Manic Street Fettlers within the same context as Kelly Bones' extensive eyebrow situation. About 5 years ago the relatively slender Manic Miner's could parade on stage without ridicule and fear that they may trip over each others waistlines. Nowadays the lead singer 'James Dean Bedmouse' seems to have gained around 9 stone via lack of exercise and over consumption of greasy products obtained throught the world whilst on tour. About a week ago I caught a clip of them on the tele and couldn't believe how the drummer has actually shrank in height, whilst his waist has zoomed to a modest 49" easy.

Could it be that the said Pratlers have simply been eating too many of their own words, of which 99% seemed to be misguided ethics on every conceivable touchy war subject the world ever did see?

And as for the female bass player... what on earth does his mother think?

I also heard through the grapevine that the drummer will find it difficult to 'drum' as of last wednesday. Whilst signing a small Boznian boy's exercise book a butcher happened by and cut off his left hand with a sithe. Unfortunately he thought it was a pigs trotter and the butcher put it in his shop window (after giving it a good scrub) and labelled it 'Fat heads trotter from the Manic Miners'

(as far as I'm aware the trotter is still up for grabs)

There's something I don't quite understand about the Manic Street Preachers. They give evrey possible reason to hate them.

But then, I met James Dean Bradfield and Nicky Wire. I did his interview at the time of the previous album, in Amsterdam. Nice bloke.

But the most surprising one was James Dean Bradfield. We were sitting in the bar of the hotel, waiting for the last interviews to end and go back to Brussels.

And JDB arrived, asked everyone what they wanted to drink and went for them, bringing them to each and every one.

Then he sat next to me and we began talking, he was asking me questions, not being self-obsessed at all.

I've done loads of interviews when I was a music journalist and JDB is one of the nicest persons I ever came across in that context.

As if there were 2 different Manic Street Preachers.

On the same subject, I find it strange how many british bands were very nice talking to but had some kind of an arrogant reputation.

I think this might have to do with the british music press. It's like you have, contractually, to have a big mouth, pretend you're the best fucking band in the world.

But then, when they do interviews in Europe, at least with us Belgians, they're really nice.

Not all of them, of course, but most of them.

I mean, I met Louis Wiener from Sleeper (anyone remember her), and she was just this shy and gentle person. Even Liam fucking Gallagher was quite nice when I met him for the 1st Oasis album.

Yup, too true: THE JANET STREET SWEEPERS have certainly gone the complete opposite of the mean and lean and wasted waiflings of ten years ago when the world and his dog were too busy laughing at them to sit up and take notice (well, I was amongst them too). It's even more likely that this Christmas's toy market will be well and truly wrapped up with the introduction of two new additions to the WEEBLES (remember them?) collection: COME ON DOWN SEAN AND JAMES!!!!!!!!!!
