While surfing for finding info on legal issues for the tribute album, I managed to go to the right place, which is Warner/Chappel's website.. and I found out they have PRINTED LYRICS of many New Order songs.

Since this is the music publisher, I have to assume those are the exact and accurate lyrics.. since there are many we had problems finding, I'll post a few so we can review them just to make sure it's accurate.

Run

Denver, John (Deutschendorf) , Gilbert, Gillian Lesley , Hook, Peter , Morris, Stephen , Sumner, Bernard (Gb 2)

Answer Me Why Won't You Answer Me I Can't Recall The Day That I Last Heard From You Well You Don't Get A Town Like This For Nothing So Here's What You've Got To Do You Work Your Way To The Top Of The World Then You Break Your Life In Two

Well What's The Use In Complaining When You've Got What You Don't Need Anyone Would Think You Were Hardened Too What Do You Want Me To Believe

What The Hell Is Happening I Can't Think Of Everything I Don't Know What Day It Is Or Who I'm Talking To But I Know That I'm Ok 'cause You're Here With Me Today I Haven't Got A Single Problem Now That I'm With You

So What's The Use In Complaining When You've Got Everything You Need Anyone Would Think You Were Hardened Too What Do You Want

Lonesome Tonight

Morris ,Stephen/Hook ,Peter/ Sumner ,Bernard/Gilbert ,Gillian

I Walk Along The Street I Look Into Your Eyes I'm Pleasant When We Meet I'm There When You Go Home

How Many Times Before Could You Tell I Didn't Care? When You Turned Your Back On Me I Knew We'd Get Nowhere

Do You Believe In Youth The History Of All Truth A Heart That's Left At Home Becomes A Heart Of Stone

Do You Believe In Truth? The Lies We Told Of Youth A Cause We Call Our Own Beside An Empty Throne

How Many Times Before Could You Tell I Didn't Care? When You Reached Out In Your Sleep And You Knew I Wasn't There My Eyes Are Made Of Stone Just Like Your Sordid Home How Many Times Before Did You Leave My Soul Alone?

By New Order

A Heaven I'd Get With A Hope Just Like The Feeling Inside It's No Joke And Though It Hurts Me To Treat You This Way Betrayed My Words I'd Never Heard Too Hard To Say

Up Down Turn Around Please Don't Let Me Hit The Ground Tonight I Think I'll Walk Alone I'll Find My Soul As I Go Home

Each Way I Turn I Know I'll Always Try To Break This Circle That's Been Placed Around Me From Time To Time I Find I've Lost Some Need That Was Urgent To Myself I Do Believe

Up Down Turn Around Please Don't Let Me Hit The Ground Tonight I Think I'll Walk Alone I'll Find My Soul As I Go Home

Oh You've Got Green Eyes Oh You've Got Blue Eyes Oh You've Got Grey Eyes

And I've Never Seen Anyone Quite Like You Before No I've Never Met Anyone Quite Like You Before Thoughts From Above Hit The People Down Below

People In This World We Have No Place To Go Oh It's The Last Time Oh I've Never Met Anyone Quite Like You Before Oh No I've Never Met Anyone Quite Like You Before

Behind Closed Doors

Sumner ,Bernard/Hook ,Peter/ Morris ,Stephen/Gilbert ,Gillian

There Is A Secret Place Underneath A Tree Where If You Go And Haste You Will Find A Key The Key Will Open Doors And You Will Look Inside The Things That You Will See Will Open Up Your Eyes

At Any Given Time On Every Other Street The City Comes To Life Though Everyone's Asleep A Man Beats Up His Wife He Doesn't Wanna Keep Behind Closed Doors They're In Retreat

I Don't Know What Makes Me Stay The City Life Just Ain't The Same There's Something Wrong With Kids Today I Blame The Parents Anyway There's No Hope No One To Trust I Can't Cope It's Obvious Please Don't Take My Drugs Away I'm Gonna Give Them Up Someday

There Is A Place Somewhere That I Could Call A Home I'd Live Without A Care I'd Never Be Alone One Day I Will Get There I Feel It In My Bones I Check Upon The Scores I Listen To The Coors Behind Closed Doors Behind Closed Doors Behind Closed Doors Behind Closed Doors

They Still Want More Behind Closed Doors

Note: It seems The Corrs was the good call after all!

Another thing.. in Bizarre Love Triangle.

Many people said "You say the words that I can say"

According to them, "You'll Say The Words That I Can't Say"

In 1963...

"I will always feel free" turns out to be "I will always feel for you"...

That one's funny though, "For God's Sake" ... "For Butter Crunch Will You Listen To Me?"

They don't like swearing or what? :D

Funny, that does sound right though, "butter crunch" vs "God's Sake"..

Naaaaaaah, those are not accurate either, 1963 for examples, you have "when love is gone" vs "when love has gone" and other little things that aren't ok.

Sucks though, but it doesn't surprise anyone, isn't it? ;)

I'll let you be the judge of this, accurate or not?

1963

Morris ,Stephen/Hook ,Peter/ Sumner ,Bernard/Gilbert ,Gillian/Hague ,Stephen

It Was January 1963 When Johnny Came Home With A Gift For Me He Said I Bought It For You Because I Love You And I Bought It For You Because It's Your Birthday Too He Was So Very Nice He Was So Very Kind To Think Of Me At This Point In Time I Used To Think Of Him He Used Think Of Me He Told Me To Close My Eyes My Gift Would Be A Great Surprise I Saw Tears Were In His Eyes He Never Meant To Hurt Me Oh God Johnny Don't Point That Gun At Me There's So Many Ways Our Lives Have Changed But Please I Beg Don't Do This To Me Johnny Don't Point That Gun At Me Can I Save My Life At Any Price? For Butter Crunch Will You Listen To Me?

And Though He Was Ashamed That He Had Took A Life Johnny Came Home With Another Wife And He Often Remembered How It Used To Be Before That Special Occasion 1963 There Was Too Many Ways That You Could Kill Someone Like In A Love Affair When The Love Is Gone He Told Me To Close My Eyes My Gift Would Be A Great Surprise I Saw Hatred In His Eyes He Never Meant To Hurt Me Oh God Johnny Don't Point That Gun At Me There's So Many Ways Our Lives Have Changed But Please I Beg Don't Do This To Me Johnny You Keep On Using Me Can I Change My Life For Any Price? Oh Johnny Won't You Listen To Me?

He Told Me To Close My Eyes My Gift Would Be A Great Surprise I Saw Hatred In His Eyes But He Never Meant To Hurt Me Oh God Johnny Don't Point That Gun At Me There's So Many Ways Our Lives Have Changed But Please I Beg Don't Do This To Me Johnny You Keep On Using Me Can I Change My Life For Any Price? Oh Johnny Won't You Listen To Me?

I Just Want You To Be Mine I Don't Want This World To Shine I Don't Want This Bridge To Burn Oh Johnny Do You Miss Me? I Just Want To Feel For You I Will Always Feel For You

Another one...

Angel Dust...

Warner/Chappel's site:

When You Watch The Blood But You Don't Feed You Make Me Feel Like The Master Of Bourgeois A Man Whose Life's Become Illusion

What I had:

When you watch the blood but you don't bleed You make me feel like a masked delusion A man whose life's became illusion

Now, that's not even close ;) I'll give it a listen even though I hate this song.

Oh boy, this will will open a debate...

In the Perfect Kiss...

"Pretending Not To See His Guilt" vs "Pretending Not To See His Gun" !!!!

Old debate, Guilt is on the Warner/Chapell site.

But according to them, the 2nd time, it is Gun...

Hi Nicos

No doubt,"pretending not to see his gun".

The lyrics say it's GUILT the first verse, and GUN the second verse...

Perfect Kiss

Morris ,Stephen/Hook ,Peter/ Sumner, Bernard / Gilbert, Gillian

I Stood There Beside Myself Thinking Hard About The Weather Then Came By A Friend Of Mine Suggested We Go Out Together Then I Knew It From The Start: This Friend Of Mine Would Fall Apart Pretending Not To See His Guilt I Said "let's Go Out And Have Some Fun" I Know You Know You Believe In A Land Of Love I Know You Know We Believe In A Land Of Love

I Have Always Thought About Staying Here And Going Out Tonight I Should Have Stayed At Home Playing With My Pleasure Zone He Has Always Been So Strange I'd Often Thought He Was Deranged Pretending Not To See His Gun I Said "let's Go Out And Have Some Fun" I Know You Know We Believe In A Land Of Love I Know You Know We Believe In A Land Of Love

When You Are Alone At Night You Search Yourself For All The Things That You Believe Are Right If You Give It All Away You Throw Away Your Only Chance To Be Here Today Then A Fight Breaks Out On Your Street You Lose Another Broken Heart In A Land Of Meat My Friend He Took His Final Breath Now I Know The Perfect Kiss Is The Kiss Of Death

There is also the "you believe" alternance at the first chorus.

I don't think those are 100% accurate of course, but it sure give hints for rough part.. unfortunatly there isn't most of the Get Ready tracks except Crystal...

:jawdrop: Wow! He DOES say "butter crunch" in 1963. I nominate Bernard Sumner as best lyricist of all time  :D

I think we can safely say these lyrics on the Warner Chappell site are someone's interpretations of what Barney is singing, and not from the band themselves. The songbook they put out in 1989 has somewhat different lyrics on it as well. We know that it is "Tan" not "Town" on "Run" as that chap Jonny Lucas has their AppleMac with the lyrics printed on it.

Problem is, if it's not right.. who is? they are the company owning the copyright for the music & lyrics... :eek2:

Only Barney can say for sure. Warner is just the business end, what the hell do they know? I wouldn't be surprised if some random person just listened to the lyrics and wrote whatever they heard (butter crunch!?) Or maybe those *are* the official lyrics and they're just being cheeky to see if anyone was paying attention...

Ever seen the japanese version of the (english) lyrics?

I believe it is just a typo...

Have you or anyone else noticed the spelling of Barney's name at the BMI site?

http://repertoire.bmi.com/writer.asp?page=1&blnWriter=True&blnPublisher=True&blnArtist=True&fromrow=1&torow=25&affiliation=PRS&cae=46900681&keyID=90390&keyname=DICKIN%20BERNARD&querytype=WriterID

It is spelled as Dickin instead of Dicken. Is this a typo too, or is this the correct spelling?

Please forgive me for this but;

Question: What the heck is "This Time I'm Not Wrong?" Is it from a movie?

It's a Sub-Sub song... featuring Bernard on vocals.

I listened to it today too and I hope I'm just hearing "butter crunch" due to a trick of the ears.

Otherwise I have to support the nomination.

Problem is, when I try to see if it's "for god's sake won't" vs "butter crunch", both sounds ok

Seriously, I'll have to try with live versions...
