Muchos Gracias Amigo pour Boodvar;)

I will post a review as I'm listening to it, I have just had the pleasure of "Automatics" Atmosphere, great version. I'm now listening to "Pribata Idaho's" version of LWTUA - love the Spanish Geetars at the start - another good version.....more to follow..... "Sr.Chinarro" - Passover, sublime guitars again, not a big fan of the use of effects in the background - I would rather it had more of an accoustic feel, still, it doesn't take too much away from another good version. "Explosivos Acme" The Only Mistake, is this done live? I'm finding it hard to find fault with any of these covers, ok, so I'm a slightly biased reviewer:D - another great track. "Submarine" Transmission, A fast upbeat version, smashing drums and LOUD geetars, a cracking alternative version. "Sweetwater" The Eternal, WTF? A bird singing! after the initial shock, the track settled down, pretty horny sounding singer (which always helps) again, I'm not keen on the long intro, or the musical interlude between verses, but it has a very chilled out feel, I like most of it. Maybe I'm being over critical, maybe not, because this is probably my favourite Joy Division song. "Honey Langstrumpf" Dead Souls, sorry, I'm not keen on this either really, a sped up version of this classic, it takes too much away from the lyrics and feeling I'm afraid. "Yellowfinn" 24 Hours, this is better :nod: Brilliant bass and guitar intro, then sped up... but the feeling is still there, cracker! "Los Planetas" Disorder, not a massive fan of this one either, it just sounds too cheery to me, I'd definitely not have a xylophone on any cover by JD. "Supernova" The Drawback, Another song sung by a bird, again, another version sped up, I quite like this, the guitars are great. "El Nino Gusano" She's Lost Control, This is sung in Spanish, another track I'm not too keen on I'm afraid, it's a weird take on the song - too much focus on giving the listener an "Eerie" atmosphere I'm afraid. "Lord Sickness" Something Must Break, crap band name - but the song more than makes up for it - one of the best on the album without doubt - the music is sooofuckinperb, I'm even getting used to foreign accents:D "Long Spiral Dreamin" Wilderness, loved the intro, and Barney and Hooky would be impressed by the guitars, another bird singing, and again, it just doesn't sound right to me, unfortunately the band lose the plot a wee bit and try to sound like Eric Clapton with their solos....a song with potential. "Mecromina" Ceremony, No comment! "Flow" No Love Lost, Not too bad, it actually reminds me of Sister Ray - very good. "Alias Galor" Failures, Another bird singing, but I like this one more than the others. "Strange Fruit" New Dawn Fades, Another of my favourite Joy Division songs, thumbs up from the Shugster, which is a genuine compliment, as I'm usually harsh on covers of favourite songs.

Cheers Budvar, this will get played quite a bit :nod: This is only my opinion, and I apologise if any of the atriste's take offence, 10 out of 10 for the effort put in. :beer:

Funnily enough I agree with most of your comments and I find you´ve been very generous. I do quite like "El Niño Gusano"´s take on "She's lost control" but I am sold to this group. One of the best Spanish groups ever and boy! were they eerie. Alas, they did not have much luck.

Nae bother amigo I didn't even ask for it, so it was a nice surprise when I got down here today (to visit the Grandparents) I wore yer Spanish t-shirt in the Irish club last night, and everyone thought I was trying to wind up the huns cos we're in the final in Seville :lol: Cheers again mate :beer:

I've been listening to this for the last couple of days, so here tis my review:

Automatics "Atmosphere" Gotta give this an A, obviously a bit faster tempo, nice simple guitars, everything fits together very well on this one.
Pribata Idaho "LWTUA" Also like the guitar playing the melody, but I gotta admit, I prefer the Swans version of this song to this, the vocals don't do a lot for me, not quite as low as M. Gira's, or even Ian's. I still play it all the way through, due to the energy of the band.
Sr. Chinarro "Passover" Another one where I don't care for the vocals too much, the singer sounds like maybe he's trying to affect an accent.
Explosivos Acme "Only Mistake" Great rousing version of this song, another one I'll constantly come back to
Submarine "Transmission" Another great cover, and though this was the first JD song I'd ever heard, this does the song justice, I love the raw production on this one, I'd swear I could hear the band speed up as it goes along.
Sweetwater "The Eternal" I'm a big Kendra Smith fan, who did a song on that major label JD tribute, and this compares quite favorably to that style. I love the guitar parts on this one a lot, another winner!
Honey Langstrumpf "Dead Souls" Another song where I'm used to the deeper vocals of Ian, this one doesn't quite reach the heights of the previous songs, but it does move along quickly.
Yellowfin "24 Hours" One of the classics from Closer done very well, another production where the rawness adds to the bite of the music.
Los Planetas "Disorder" Don't think the slowed-down tempo does this one any justice at all; not too bad, butthe singer doesn't sound like he's matching the intensity that the lyrics bring to my mind.
Supernova "The Drawback" Err, sounds like there was a mastering problem on this one, it seems to skip a bit in the first minute, but still a nice punky effort with a female vocal.
El Nino Gusano "Ells Perdio el Control" (spanish version of She's Lost Control). Quite interesting weird noises on this one, but this is one song where the raw production brings the song down a bit, especially in the middle section.
Lord Sickness "Something Must Break" Good version of the song, but nothing really memorable on this one, just another fast take on an early gem.
Long Spiral Dreamin' "Wilderness" Another female vocal, pretty much the same opinion as for the song above.
Mercromina "Ceremonia" Doesn't sound much like the original, if I heard this one in a restaurant I wouldn't quite know what the song was. Pretty good, but this is one song where I absolutely pay attention to the lyrics, and since I don't know a lot of Spanish, I just soaked in the music.
Flow "No Love Lost" Another great cover, and one of my faves of the album. Have always loved the JD version, this'll get played a lot.
Alias Galor "Failures" This one, however, isn't one of my fave JD songs, and a bit of letdown after No Love Lost.
Strange Fruit "New Dawn Fades" Good song to end the album on, and a good version to boot, though not quite as intense as JD.

Pretty good stuff Hubvar, I am very glad to have this in my collection, and over half of the stuff will get a lot of play round here for quite awhile. Thanks again for sending one out my way

Well, I received my copy last friday and, with thanks to Budvar, here goes my review, restricted, unfortunately, to the tracks I loved the most (It's got SEVENTEEN tracks, for God's sake!I don't have the time to review them all!): Automatics- A speeded-up version of "Atmosphere"? Sounds naff on paper, but it works, believe me! I love the low-fi rhythm track and the guitars are adequately loud. A small masterpiece. Pribata Idaho- "Pribata Idaho"? A band that takes it's name from a B-52's song deserves my attention! Their excelent cover of "Love will tear us apart" too, with a mandolin riff that echoes REM's Peter Buck style. B-52's... REM...They must have an obsession for Athens, GA, surely? Explosivos Acme- Her... it really is explosive! Amazing version, with great vocals and drumming Sweetwater- I love this one! A really menacing, dark, almost goth track. The weery female vocals work very well. Honey Langstrumpf- (wow, these bands names!) A real stand-out track. They ditched the original's funereal dirge and replaced it with a kick-ass energy that is quite exhilarating Los Planetas- The only band I previously had heard of. A sublime, melancholic rendition of "Disorder". Nice guitar solo! The hardcore ending is a bit too much, though... Long Spiral Dreamin'- Another female take on Joy Division, and it works again! A powerful cover, and the bass is conviently loud Mercromina- Translated versions can be quite tricky to achieve, as the failed "Ela perdió el controle" demonstrates. This one, however, is a real gem- The arrangement is quite radical (to the point that I had to look up the sleeve to see if it was the correct track...) but it really delivers the goods. My favorite song here! Strange Fruit- A beautiful ending to a great album. My favorite Joy Division song gets the right treatment here, as it's both disturbing and hypnotic. The singing is pretty good too!

All in all, a great tribute album! And bear in mind that the fact that I reviewed only these tracks doesn't mean that the rest sucks. It doesn't! Shame that the sleeve isn't exactly Saville-esque, is it? :wink:
