Joy Division's first American tour: how would it have been?

How do you think Joy Division's first US tour would've been (other than short)?

I suppose Ian probably would've had trouble staying on stage and singing like at some of the later JD shows. No fun for anyone concerned. In hindsight, it probably wouldn't have been all that fun to see: "Welcome to the atrocity exhibition..."

Self-limiting factor: How sad it is to think that the forces that inspired such wonderful music would be the same ones to ultimately lead to the end of that music.

I imagine they wouldn't do a "South-only" tour like the Pistols, more likely a jaunt across the Northeast before heading to LA and playing there (in Ideal For Living, Mark Johnson talks about how there was a big fan base for JD/NO when they first went out there in 1981). And it may very well have been short due to Ian's condition, but we'll never really know.

Well, it only had about 4 dates on it, and was scheduled for NY, NJ and Boston. We know this much. There were no plans to extend it past this. It was literally just a short trip similar to the Europe Jan 80 tour.

Hell ...was that ALL.It would have been hard to make an impact on so few dates.I had always thought they were going to do at least 10 gigs.Learn something new everyday.Cheers for the insight though!

I think it would be a successful but short tour. They would become the best band in the word after that.

I've seen pics of tickets that had been printed for a Chicago show, and I've heard that the same was true of a date at Bogart's here in Cincinnati but haven't actually seen them myself. I don't think it was planned to be a very short trip.
