I see this one posted a lot on E-Bay. Has anyone purchased this? It says it is the rare Factory version of Joy Division's "Substance" on VHS/DVD. I've bid for it several times, but I don't remember Factory ever releasing a Joy Divison video at the time Substance was released. Insight?

I bought it off Ebay last year and it's not an original; it's a copy. I think it was Fac. 207, which I believe was some sort of special in-store thingus or some damn thing; I can't really remember what, but it wasn't an official release. At any rate, it has the same videos for Shadowplay, She's Lost Control, and Transmission that you can see on this site, the ones when the band played on TV. Then there's a few okay tracks that are filmed in 8mm, I believe, from a live show. Then there's a few tracks from the same show that the "Here Are the Young Men" video was taken from, so they're absolute shitty quality (but Dead Souls has some simply hilarious Ian dancing). The LWTUA video is the same official video but it's the overdubbed version that sounds awful in my opinion. Then there's Atmosphere but like a lot of the videos, it has little explanatory notes run across the bottom like a stock ticker for the first part of it; kinda disappointing. And the Wired TV special has pretty awful sound quality, but some interesting interviews. All in all, somewhat disappointing but definitely some good stuff. Worth it if you have some extra pocket change and don't mind the quality.

It was a promo that never got an official release. Not sure how many originals exist, but there are lots of copies floating about:

Includes the following material:

"Shadowplay"(Granada TV, Granada Reports 20-9-78)

"She's Lost Control"+"Shadowplay"+"Leaders Of Men"(live Altrincham, Bowden Vale Youth Club 14-3-79)

"She's Lost Control"+interview(excerpt)+"Transmission" (Something Else, BBC 2 TV 15-9-79)

"Dead Souls"+"Wilderness" (live Manchester Apollo 27-10-79)

"Love Will Tear Us Apart" (original promo video with "live" sound and double-tracked vocals, recorded 28-4-1980 or possibly 18-4-1980)

"Atmosphere" (black & white promo video directed by Anton Corbijn, 1988)

"Wired" Fact 211(Channel 4 TV feature 1-7-88).

bollocks to this "whats $25 dollars blah blah". these ebay cretins are ripping real fans off. stop encouraging them. swap with mates or get broadband and start sharing rare new order/joy division audio/video stuff on file sharing networks like kazaa. its the only way to bypass gimps selling copy after copy of "hard to find" gear.

see prev post...if anyone can get me a tape copy of the rare jd stuff i am sure i will have something to swap....just tell me what you are after!
