Surely we've been here already? 1993-98. And coped?

Did anyone seriously think we'd ever see them again after Reading 93? I, for one, was absolutely GobSmacked when they announced they were reforming for the Phoenix Festival.

As long as they are still alive, there is still hope they will still get together from time to time. unless they are like 90 years old. Anyways, I voted All good things comes to an end.

Mebbe.. but with the side projects to whet our appetite during the 90's it was always a distinct possibility that the bug would bite them again and they would realize what they were missing.

I cant see that cycle being repeated though, especially as age begins to take its toll...

Yes thats what i hope too!!

I put in the good things come to an end as its a measured response and nothing in this world can deny us the great memories we've had and shared down the years. I hope to be philisphical about it - although no one can be quite sure how they will take it... After Reading 93 i certainly refused to admit that was that!!

Was never entirely convinced by 'The Split' and as a great man once said; " Don't believe what you read in the papers, even if I say it." and that was good enough for me. Even the NME finished their review of Reading 93 with the prophecy " See you in four years time you awkward bastards." ( Or something like that. ) they were only out by a year.

When I bade farewell to Barney ( the evil, sly, vicious little twat ) in 1972 I did not think I would end up wishing that he would never turn his back on me again. Its very difficult to hero worship a once regarded piece of lowlife but I wish to struggle on. If it ends then at least the conflict within me dies.

By the time NO breaks up, we'll all be 60-something and raving on about their last 3 jazz-influenced records and bemoaning the fact that they just don't make bands like they used to, and we'll be asking "did you see them at Glastonbury 2033 and why didn't they play Love Vigilantes"...........or something like that.

They've broken up before...and that didn't stop them. Although I think it's destined to happen because all of my other favourite bands (Eurythmics, Crowded House, Savage Garden) have broken up. But there'll at least be the prospect of another Electronic album.....and what's are the odds on at least one more New Order Best Of?

i can still go through their back catelogue since i have very little memories of them. i've only been a fan for 2 years. but it would be a very sad time if the unthinkable were to ever happen.

A combo of everything, I suppose, seeing as how I got over Ian's death, the break-up of the Jam, Clash, Big Black, Talking Heads, the death of David McComb, etc by continuing to play their music, though not to the degree that I did when they were all in their heyday. I listen to a lot of different stuff, so I'm sure something will come up, and JD/NO will always be one of the absolute mainstays in my heart.

An interesting dilemma, possible life without New Order and how to cope? Time has proven them to be inventive, masterful songwriters and rather unpredictable in their behavior, perceptions, and lifestyles. I’d hope these traits serve them well in the years to come. I feel they have plenty of great music left to be made in whatever configuration they choose. I welcome tomorrow and regret nothing.

I got into New Order during their hiatus, so I was already consoling myself with their back catalogue . It wasn't until a couple years later that 'Get Ready' came out and added to the back catalogue that'll sustain me for years to come. Besides, there'll always be remixes.

Had so many years where I thought we'd never hear from them again & I was convinced I'd never see them play live. I treat every new gig or tune as a bonus.

When the time comes, I'll have one helluva back-cat to keep me going. I just hope it isn't any time soon though ;)

I've already survived one breakup, and had no hopes of them ever getting back together. And being wrong-side-of-the-pond, no hopes of ever seeing them play live. In fact, I had a ticket to Reading 98 and was going to fly over, and things fell through at the last minute. :headoff:

So Get Ready was very welcome - I still remember listening anxiously to the first MP3 of Crystal and a shit-eating grin spreading across my face as Hooky's bass riff came in and I knew they were back. And I did manage to see them twice on their visit here.

I treat every new single/album/concert as a gift, and live with no expectation there'll ever be another. Which is how I think you should view everything in life.

We're lucky fuckers.

I don't worry at all, me. The way things are going, the world will probably come to an end before they split. It says so in the Bible. And Nostradamus said something alike. The Celestine prophecies too. The evening news are even gloomier. So instead of thinking what will happen after they split, let's rather force them to put out the new album before the world ends.
