Should New Order release any more singles from "Get Ready"? Yes or No?

Maybe New Order should forget about releasing any further singles from the LP as I'm sure none of them will push its sales any further. It seems most of us would rather a different track be put out than "60mph", whose prospects don't look too strong. Perhaps they should think of releasing that much-discussed Chemicals collaboration as a new stand-alone single instead.... it's been ages since NO did this. Perhaps then there may be two outcomes: firstly, the record may do very well due to both NO and Chemical fans being attracted to it; and, secondly, their useless record label, WEA London, being forced to rerelease the LP for the Xmas market with this track added onto it in a cynical cash-in attempt to lure the record buyers who ignored the album in the first place.... This whole lark sucks, obviously, but I think, in New Order's case it's worth a try just to see if this kind of exploitative marketing push works for them as well. What do others think? A new song for new single, or countless tediously remixed album selections? Vote now!

Maybe in about a year or two (seeing as Substance has too many remixes), NO could take the easy road and put out a "greatest hits" or "original singles" LP. True, there's the aforementioned Subs, Best of and Rest of, are out there, but any format that would include the original singles, not the remixes, would be a nice addition to my record collection.

I don't think any more NEW ORDER compilations should be put out for a while - at this rate theyll become as bad as The Cure (them again!!): who brought out no less than ELEVEN compilations/remix lps/and live lps over their entire career - with YET ANOTHER ONE on its way!! Who needs any more cacky, badly-sequenced NO best-rest-worst-of's when we can all do our own spiffing personal compilations instead? Why, I've only recently compiled, designed and packaged my OWN sequel to Sustance 1987 - titled, Substance 1987-95, with all the singles/b-sides that took up where True Faith (1987) left off - up to Let's Go (Nothing For Me) and Spooky. In a special limited edition of one, naturally....... Haven't you done the same yet??

I'm still hungering for the original Confusion/Temptation/etc to pop up on cd, a new comp (unwelcome as it may be) would be the only legal way to pick those up. Now, any ILLEGAL way you have in mind, I'm open to.

I think, barring Subs minus the remixes, there hasen't been a proper assessment of NO's twenty years out yet.

As a fan, I sure would like them to release all the bloody tracks into singles..

To have more material to listen to.

After a 8 years wait for original material, I think it would be great.

Of course, we would need GOOD remixes and some other b-sides or unreleased gems to fill those.

I like to dream sometines :D

Just release the boxset of the singles... I would pay the money, all those mixes, cover art... Or just release the Singles... like Depeche Mode has a million Singles for sale......

That was supposed to happen a couple of years ago: tentatively titled "Recycle" it was to feature ALL 25 New Order singles and to have each single issued on CD (many for the first time ever) complete with its 12inch and 7inch mixes and all attendant B-sides per disc, though it seemed such a huge task it was eventually shelved indefinitely: look guys if you all insist politely enough, the record companies may yet decide to bring this out of mothballs - especially bearing in mind the crappy sales of Get Ready.....so get writing now!!

I remember hearing that was shelved because of "lack of commercial interest", which is unfortunate. Any format with the original singles on cd would be most welcome, if not exactly Soundscan gold.....

Really? First I ever heard of that!! I thought the reason was the usual excuse - all and sundry involved in the whole kerboodle not bothering to get off their fat lumpy sagging middle-aged asses and make the bloody effort to at least come up with something worthwhile. I mean, surely it isn't THAT difficult to release all their singles in miniaturised CD-sized sleeve replicas of their 12 inch covers instead of those shitty plastic jewel cases fuckin' London Records are so fuckin' fond of packaging their stuff in... Like it was mentioned earlier, not too long back, Depeche Mode did a pretty damn fine job of collecting all their singles into a couple of box sets - excellent packaging too. Now there's an example of a band whose worldwide record company have a more sympathetic approach/attitude to their marketing....and to their credit Depeche are still (relatively) huge today.....

....erm....sorry about that.....tantrums, who needs 'em? Better drag this debate kicking and screaming back into the limelight again as we're still another THREE WEEKS off from the UK release of "60 mm.p.h."

One week later, What have others to say on this vexing subject?

Why is it this thread doesn't have a normal right margin?

That's because I accidentally stretched it by screaming so much earlier on: the column was so startled it spread out by over an inch in a desperate attempt to escape my encroaching letters.......
